When I first met Dr. Berkowitz I was very impressed. He was friendly and chatty. He appeared to be in no hurry and answered all my questions. I didn't feel pressured or rushed. Dr. Berkowitz went over risks and benefits of the surgery and explained what to expect before, during and after surgery. A former patient was there to explain aftercare, diets, etc. to me. I feel everything was covered adequately. I had done alot of research on my own so I didn't have too many questions.
I chose the Bariatric Treatment Centers because I wanted some place that was used to obese patients. I didn't want to feel ill at ease, or have to deal with staff that didn't understand obesity. The dedicated mission of the BTC's impressed me the most at first, but after meeting Dr. Berkowitz and his support staff, I was convinced I had found the right place.
My first impression of Dr. Berkowitz was that he was very calm and casual person that put me at ease as soon as we met. My impression hasn't changed. He was very good to me while in the hospital and had a very good bedside manner. His staff was very efficient. I can't think of anything I don't like about him, I feel he saved my life by giving me this new thinner, healthier life.
His future patients should know that he will do anything to make them comfortable and answer any question you have for him. He, like all the doctors, expressed his concern about patients not following up after surgery. Not only does he like to SEE his successes, but also encourages those lab tests before the visits.
I was informed by him during the consultation about the risk of this surgery and the risk of any surgery. I would rate him on the highest scale, but how can you measure his competence or his bedside manner when, I feel, he gave my life back to me.
My first impression of him was very easy to talk to didn't talk above your head like some doctors do. He made me feel very much at ease about having the surgery, and he answered all my questions. I had my first consultaion 9/28/00 and the building is being worked on and having improvements done on it and the staff just keep apolgizing for the noise and the mess in the lobby during construction. I would have to say overall I would rate the staff and Dr. Berkowitz excellant and I am looking forward to getting the sugery done by him at Belvidere.
My first impression of Dr. Berkowitz was that this is very routine for him. But of course when you take into cosideration that he has done @ 500 in the past two years-it has become a routine for him. He has a very pleasant demeaner about himself. He always has a smile on his face. He is quite a professional.
His staff is quite professional. There was only one member I did not care for. She tried to re-start the IV and she really hurt me and bruised me bad. I finally told her to leave my room (so my mom wouldn't choke her) and she gave me one last jab before she took the IV needle out. I tried to stay away from her the rest of my stay. But this was only my personal experience.
All of the rest of the staff were VERY professional and caring and seemed to know their jobs like clock-work.
The small size of the hospital scared me somewhat, but as time went on I knew I had made the right choice.
My first impression of Dr. Berkowitz was that he was very knowledgeable and at ease. He answered all of my questions in language that I understood. Following surgery and during my hospital stay, I was even more impressed with Dr. Berkowitz. I ran a 102.7 fever while in the hospital. It was reassuring to see Dr. Berkowitz and all of the staff jump into action to complete tests, etc. I was informed of everything occurring and why. And the whole time everyone assured me that everything would be OK and really calmed me down. I also liked the fact that Dr. Berkowitz and the staff were very encouraging and offered a lot of verbal praise. Overall, I would rate Dr. Berkowitz as an excellent physician, both bedside manner and surgical competence.
I was very impresssed with my surgeon. He was very willing to answer all my questions pre-op. He is still very willing to answer any questions or concerns and my opinoin is still the same. The staff at BTC Illinois was awesome! They made everything comfortable. It was the first time in ages I could sit in a chair without having my legs squeezed in half! They have ppl available 24 hours a day to answer any and all questions! That was a great comfort to me knowing if there was a problem I could get an answer. They are very good with post-op care. You have a set routine as far as visits and lab work are concerned. They walk though your new eating routine set by step with you. I have been very impressed with my results and my care before and after the surgery. I did have a hernia show up about 6 months post-op and I had it repaired. This was a common occurance because of my weight. I don't feel it had anything to do with the actual surgery performance. I would do it all over again for these kind of results! I just wish I would have known about this site before I had surgery, that would have helped in answering my many questions as well.
