My first impression of Dr. Berkowitz was good.
and my husband liked him also. He took his time
with us and explained everything very thoroughly.
As a matter of fact, I had a list of questions
for him and he answered them all in the consultation.
All in all I can say I am very confident in Dr. Berowitz
to do my surgery if it is approved by my insurance.

Hi again...
Berk was one of the best cutters that has ever worked on me. He cares.
His sense of humor made a difficult time so much
easier for me.
He was, and is the total package.

I was very impressed with the Dr. Roy Berkowitz. He was very friendly and very explanitory. He said I had done my research. He said I do need the surgery. Now I have to wait for my Insurance. I also have to have a sleep study. He was very soft spoken and very encourageing about the insurance covering this. Now I received a letter from BTC saying my isurance requires a psyhc evalation. I am trying to get a appointment for that

The surgeon was fine, and he made the rounds daily, and there was a general doctor who conducted the detailed exam before the surgery
The nurses and staff were fine people to talk to in person, but if you were calling in, you got a lot of voicemail with long callback waits. There was no waiting on hold for the next available nurse.
The place really structures the aftercare program for you. There are several exams in the weeks following and nutritional guideance every week until you are back on normal food.
Before your surgery you are given names of people who had the surgery and run support groups in your area.

I had cigna insurance, wich covered just fine after they quit losing the paperwork. This is not the first time and I am not the only one to feel Cigna has bad office procedures.

I have only met with my doctor one time, at my consultation. He was very mild mannered and made me feel at ease right away. He did tell me I had to quit smoking 4 weeks before surgery, and I have just done that, with the help of the patch.

I met with Dr. Berkowitz on November 14th. He seemed to be a caring and kind man. He also has a sense of humor....that's important to me. I was glad that he wanted me to know and understand everything about the surgery and the after care. This is not something to walk into without being informed about the risks and the rewards. It is a life changing event. I'm looking forward to it being a wonderful life changing event. The staff is great, so far. I was unhappy that it took 13 days for the Belvidere office to get my paperwork to their Corporate office. I don't know if that is the usual time or not. It was 3 days from Corporate to my insurance. Jeff at Corporate was terrific. Called me back immediately with status on my paperwork. Will keep posting as info changes.

My first impression of Dr Berkowitz was that he is a very quiet, caring man. He was patient and informative with me and my husband on the questions we had. He seemed impressed that I had done reseach on the surgery and encouraged me to continue learning as much as possible before the surgery date.
During pre-op, the surgery, and aftercare Dr
Berkowitz was always there. You can tell he
really cares about his patients well being. He visited several times during my three day stay in the hospital. A gentle pat and a smile means so much more to me than gift of gab. I would definitly recommend him!

My first impression of Dr. Roy was that he was
a wiseguy.....my reference point? I'm a wiseguy.
It really does take one to know one.
Berk really does care....He is a Medical God among
the lesser docs. He seems to be genuine in his bedside
manner and does show a true empathy towards his patients.
I would have no reservations in reccommending him to
prospective patients. Thanks Berk

Dr. Berkowitz made a lasting impression on me. When I was standing at the ER window he walked by and smiled. When I got to his waiting room and began to feel out the paperwork Dr.Berkowitz came out introduced himself and said "take your time filling out those papers will talk more lasting impression on me, most doctors hide back in there offices until you are taking back to the exam roon. The other thing was my appointment wasn't until 12pm I was there by 10:30am. they got me in and out by 12p how often does that happen. Overall eveyone seemed nice. The office was cozy with big chairs The first time I was every comfortable in a chair with arms.

My first impression of Dr. Berkowitz was that this guy really knows his stuff. I was really impressed, and anyone that knows me would tell you that that isnt always very easy to do. The "sales pitch" did seem kind of rehearsed, but if you did something day in and day out you would sound like that too. I truly believe that he cares about his patients. I havent had surgery yet (shceduled 10-25-00) but I would absolutely recommend anyone who was thinking about this surgery to Roy Berkowitz....10-29-00 I was released from the hospital yesterday. Surgery took about three hours as I required a chloecystectomy(gallbladder removal) and an umbilical(belly button) hernia repair. Dr. Berkowitz also noticed some enlargement of my liver and some tissue around it so he did a biopsy. I saw him on my surgery day and 2 days after and I will not see him again until my 2 week follow up but my opinion of Dr. Berkowitz still has not changed. I think that he is a very caring and extremely competent surgeon and as I said before, I would recommend anyone who was going to have this surgery to Dr. Berkowitz.
