Dr. Clements was great. He was open, upfront and very informative. He laid out all the facts both good and bad and then let me decide for myself. He was very professional yet he had the ability to make me feel that I was "special". This is, of course, a real treat for obese people as we are often treated as second class citizens. I'm looking forward to having surgery and feel very confident in Dr. Clements abilities.
Now that surgery is over and I'm halfway to my goal weight, I still remain as confident as ever in Dr. Clements abilities. Every time I've seen him I felt in my heart that he genuinely cares about me. He's light hearted and funny but you still are very aware that he's committed and in charge. When my hospital stay turned into a negative experience he was supportive and sympathetic. He made me feel safe. He's wonderful - a truly good man who seems to take alot of pleasure in helping folks like me.
It's been 5 months since surgery and I'm two thirds of the way to final goal. Saw Dr. Clements last week. He continues to impress me. He pointed out specific things about my physical characteristics that, once again, made me know that he really cares and knows who I am as a person. For example he commented several times about how I'd lost alot of weight in my face and how I was wearing my hair different, etc. I'd rate him as a double A+ and then some. 15 months post op. Saw Dr. Clements and enjoyed a long visit with him. He's been keeping up with me and our support group. He's got the right personality for this business. Makes you feel good about yourself. He's interested in improving aftercare and having a comprehensive program. I'm at goal and he seemed very pleased with my progress. He still gets an A+ if you ask me.
My first meeting with him I was very suprised as to how young he looks or is!! And of course my first question was how long have you been doing this type of surgery. I like his answer of 4 years. His reputation is EXCELLENT all over the area and at the hospital. Hospital personnel would tell me all the time that I have a GREAT doctor. Before surgery I was fully informed of everything from every complication that could happen to a complete run down of aftercare instructions. Dr. Clements is very personable and friendly, and does get a bit embarassed when told of his reputation and what others say of him. I would highly recommend this surgeon and as of the writing of this page I have not had surgery yet... it is 6 days away..... November 15th, 2001.
If there was a downside.. he is VERY busy.. he patient load has increased doo dramatically since he started at UAB... He is soo good though and that was expected. I alway felt he was there for me if I had any questions or concerns.
He is very structured as far as his expectation and he is not into failures. He will say it like it is and not candy coat his thoughts.. he is not rude ... he is straight forward and to the point.
Dr. Clements was younger than I expected. He was very thorough and gave me plenty of time for questions. He told me the good and the bad. He seems to be a good Christian man which was important to me. I think he looks at each patient individually to decide exactly what is best for them.
His office moved during the wait for my appointment and the appointment was changed. This caused me a little stress. I felt after the move the office staff didn't quite have it all together. Now after a few months things seem better organized.
I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking information or a surgeon for WLS.
He is very friendly and easy to talk to and always gives you time for your questions. He has some interns that work with him that also check in on you.
He was very sraight forward with me, and very honest. I appreciate that.
My impression of him hasn't changed, I still feel the same about him.
They were all very polite to me.
There isn't anything that I don't like about him, so far. LOL
Thet he is a great doctor and he know what he is doing; he's very knowledgeable
He has told me that it is very important to keep aftercare appts. andto take care of myself.
He will, I'm sure but I haven't had surgery yet,
He has explained all the dangers, but also thebenefits to it.
i feel like he's a great doc, I'm just waiting to see what his surgery on me is going to be like, I'm sure it will be great.
I don't know yet, but I'm sure both will be great.
I was very impressed with Dr. Clements. I asked a ton of questions and he answered them all. He was very forthcoming regarding the risks of the surgery and that it would be a life long change. He had great bedside manner too. The staff was also very good. The only problem I have had is a delay on getting the information package. It took about 6 calls before I ever received it. The receptionist finally faxed it to me.
My husband and I met Dr. Clements on Nov. 16. He was very serious about what he does! He stressed that this is surgery for improved health! He knew that we were good candidates because we have so many of the health issues faced by mobid obesity. He spent alot of time with us and we had a date for surgery within 2 hours of our first meeting. Michelle, who is the insurance lady, was wonderful. She took all of our paperwork and told us that we had done everything she needed. I think she was pleased. The nurse was not the regular nurse but she was very nice. I think it is the first time I've ever been to a doctor's office and not felt out of place...surrounded by people who hate fat people. Dr. Clements was wonderful!!!!!
