Dr. Clements is a wonderful, Christian man. He is sincere about helping his patients become healthy people again. He holds no punches when he tells you that this surgery is for your health not to make you a "barbie doll." He assures you that he will fulfill his end of the bargain but to be successfull, you must fulfill your end of the agreement. His nurse had the surgery herself, six years ago. She went from a size 24 to a size 10. She shared her before and after pictures and added a personal touch by giving me her number should I have any questions or concerns. Both the doctor and his nurse were prepared to answer any of my questions and provided phone numbers of the staff to call with any questions I may have forgotten to ask. Today is July 25, 2002. My surgery is scheduled for August 22, 2002. I'll keep you posted as to my progress and my hospital stay. I feel very confident with my team of professionals. They are not only a competent group of professionals but also very genuine and concerned about me and my future progress.
My first impression of Dr. Clemments was that he appeared to by 25 years old. He looks so young. However, it didn't take 5 minutes to realize that he is extremely compassionate and very knowledgeable. The office staff was very pleasant and helped me tremendously in the beginning with an appt. There was nothing I least like about Dr. Clements. He is VERY strict with his instructions on what you must do after surgery, but the way he presented it proved he is this strict because he expects you to abide by his rules because he knows what he is talking about. He wants you to be very successful with your weight-loss and this is proved by his caring nature. There is no structured aftercare program like a support group or anything, but you do see him 2 weeks post-op, 6 weeks post-op and then every 3 months. Dr. Clements pretty much lays it out on the line. He explains all the risks and makes sure you understand it is your decision. I loved one sentence he told me "You have about a 1% chance of this, or that etc., however, if it happens to you it becomes 100%!" Overall, Dr. Clements is 110%. To me surgical competence is absolutely better. Just so happens, Dr. Clements has both. There are Dr's out there who are probably good surgeons, but are just now beginning to perform the laproscopic version of this surgery. Dr. Clements performs many each week and has for a long time. That says something!
I have only seen Dr.Clements once for my initial consult. He made me feel totally at ease and was very informative. His office staff seemed good.He totlly believes in following the rules with diet and exercise and follow up visits to make the surgery successful and he will make sure you understand this.I had done alot of research before the consult but he is open to any questions you might have. My next visit is in a couple of weeks to set up my date for surgery.I think he is a great physician so far.
I met with Dr. Clements for the first time February 1, 2002. I was very impressed with his attitude about the surgery, in that he stressed the importance of your health above your looks. He has a very good sense of humor which put me immediately at ease. Also, I felt very confident about putting my life in his hands. He just instills confidence in a way that is hard to explain, but was very forthright about the risks involved. He is very adamant about aftercare. I would say his competence as a surgeon is very good and his bedside manner is wonderful. I would recommend him strongly to anyone.
FIRST IMPRESSION WAS GREAT,HE'S NOT ONE THAT IS OUT FOR THE MONEY. HE TELLS U STRAIGHT UP,IF U NOT GOING TO GIVE UP SUGARS AND ECT,THIS SURGERY FOR NOT FOR YOU,HE IS VERY IMFORMATIVE,LETS U KNOW THE UPS AND DOWNS..
I WENT FOR APPOINTMENT ON JAN 29,2002,I WAITED TILL MARCH,BEFORE I GOT ON THE PHONE WITH THE INSURANCE PERSON,MICHELLE P,AND STARTED HOUNDING HER,WHICH U HAVE TO FO,TO GET HER TO MOVE,AS U CAN SEE BY MY FIRST APPT DATE,FINALLY SHE SUBMITTED MY LETTER TO BCBS ON APRIL 2,2002 AND THEY APPROVED IT ON
APRIL 12,2002 AND I FINALLY GOT AND APPOINTMENT TO SET SURGERY DATE,WHICH OF COURSE I WONTED ASAP,I GOT MAY 21,2002.I HAVE BLUECROSS INS,WHICH SHEMICHELL-INS LADY,MADE ME PAY MY FIRST VIST FEE OF 320.00
ON MAY 29TH AND 143.00 FOR THE VISIT FOR THAT DAY,BEFORE SHE SAID THEY WOULD SCEHEDULE IT.WHICH TICKED ME OFF,BECAUSE I HAD CALLED BCBS TO SEE WHY THEY DENIED MY 1ST VIST-320.00-THEY SAID SINCE THE SURGERY HAD BEEN APPROVED IT WOULD BE TOO,AND WAS REPROCESSING IT,I TOLD HER THAT AND SHE MADE ME PAY IT,320.00 ANYWAY PLUS 143.00 FOR THE 2ND VIST,BUT I WILL GET IT BACK WHEN HSP IS PAID AGAIN BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY,BUT I LOVE DR CLEMENTS,HE VERY INTELLIGENT,AND SHE TO UNDERSTAND OBESE PROBLEMS AND CONCERNS,THE NURSES WERE GREAT TOO,BUT THE INSURANCE PERSON SEEMS TO BE CLUELESS ON THE INSRUANCE END OF IT,SHE HAD TOLD ME BCBS WOULDNT PAY FOR THE FIRST VISIT AND THEY DID,SO IT PAYS TO CALL U INSURANCE CO IF THEY EVER WONT COVER A VISIT AND TALK TO THEM
When I met Dr. Clements he seemed to be very energetic (wish I had all that). I was surprised by his youthful appearance. His knowledge of the surgery (of course) was extensive. He wanted to make sure that I understood that this isn't like taking diet pills and eating whatever, whenever. This will be a total lifestyle change and adjustment. I am going to have to learn to eat all over again. He stressed the fact that if you cannot give up sugar FOREVER that this surgery is NOT for you (which I understand...just don't like *pout*). But I am willing to give it up if I can "FIX" my broken parts. I do have to say that everything I have heard about him has been pretty much on the positive, except for the fact of how busy he is (but that is to be expected, especially since WLS seems to be a new trend for the obese). I also have been sorta scared recently...but to no fault of Dr. Clements because he makes sure you understand that the surgery is not 100% safe (as in ANY MAJOR SURGICAL PROCEDURE)...but needless to say, I know he has lost a patient recently and that sorta scares me (the patient died from a pulmonary embolism). I am not changing my mind about him being my surgeon...I am just praying that I will be part of the other 99% (I know that is selfish...but I am only HUMAN). As things progress with my Patient/Doctor relationship...I will be sure to update here as well.
