He was pleasant and quiet. Examined me asked if i had any further questions that he could answer. I had to wait about an 1 1/2 hrs. for him as he was in surgery yet. After that the visit quick, but thorough. The staff was friendly and efficient. I liked the fact that he was quite confident about his abilities to perform the surgery. I also liked the fact that he has done over 3000 WLS.
BEING NERVOUS ABOUT THIS SURGERY, I WENT INTO MY CONSULATATION ALITTLE TIMID. BUT DR CAPELLA NOT ONLY EXPLAINED EVRYTHING IN LAYMAN'S TERMS, SLOWLY AND CLEARLY, HE ANSWERED ALL OF MY QUESTIONS, THEN OFFERED QUESTIONS I MIGHT NOT HAVE THOUGHT OF(AND ANSWERED THOSE TOO!!). HE HAS INFORMATION SESSIONS EVERY MONTH AND IS HONEST IN HIS ANSWERS-THOUGH SOME MIGHT NOT BE THE ONES YOU WANT TO HEAR. HE IS ALSO A FUNNY MAN AND TRUELY CARES ABOUT HIS PATIENTS AND THEIR OUTCOMES. I WOULD RECOMMEND DR CAPELLA TO ANY ONE INTERESTED IN THIS SURGERY.
i was operated on last monday, march 26, 2001 at the hackensack hospital in new jersey. dr. capella made a good first impression at his informational seminar. his presentation gave me confidence that the operation was the thing for me to do, and he presented himself well. my research found him to be an excellent surgeon. my impression has not changed. my disappointment was only that when i had my pre-op appointment with him, i didn't feel that i had his full attention. he answered all questions, but impressed me as being pre-occupied.the office staff were ok, not exceptional. again, for my money, the personal touch was missing; slow on return calls, lot of time on hold. i'm very disappointed with the information given to me on after care. i have received handouts with typos; repetitious, not organized thatb has left me with more questions than answers which is how i ended up on this website in the first place. overall, dr. capella is a good surgeon. i would not hesitate to recommend him.
See my personal comments for info leading to the consultation.***************I had my consultation and was very impressed. I had a morning appt. & overall the visit took about 2 hours. It was quite thorough - After the initial paperwork I saw 1 person to have my vitals taken. Then I saw Dr. Capella. His initial question was "Do you have any questions" - and I had plenty. We went over my questions/concerns and then went through the paperwork. The whole time he was informative, caring & really listened to me. Then I had a physical followed by meeting with Jackie to discuss the surgery more, schedule a date and talk about insurance. I was So completely impressed with this portion of my visit I can't even express it. Jackie worked with my schedule limitations and also made me feel confident that my insurance concerns will be taken care of to the best of their ability. (They arent on my preferred provider list but I can go out of network. I think this will cost more than I initially anticipated but I totally think it will be worth it. I was just happy to figure out the ballpark costs beforehand instead of it sneaking up on me later!) Overall, I have a warm n fuzzy feeling about my surgeon selection and am grateful to this website and the other members for helping come to my decision!!!!
ps: even though I thought I was prepared it would have helped if i'd had my INSURANCE CARD! They were even Super in understanding that....
Dr. Capella is a genuine man who wants to help people. My first impression is he does this type of surgery from his heart and not his pocket. His office staff has been very patient with me, as it was necessary to change dates, insurance companies, etc. I never felt like I had questions whether they were medical or procedural that went unanswered. I did not however appreciate waiting hours beyond my scheduled appointment time when I had an office visit, however, I guess this happens.
Dr. Capella discussed surgical risks in general, as well as his experience. Having performed over 2400 of these procedures and only losing three patients. The procedure he performs is a VBG-gastric bypass. It is a combination procedure which he has perfected. I respect his professionalism, in that he will only perform the procedure open, to limit the time the patient is under anesthesia, and to be provided with an unobstructed view during the procedure.
I found Dr. Capella to be very caring and patient. His informational seminars are great. He explains everything and encourages many questions. His pleasure is helping people get their lives back. He makes you feel like he's a physican not for the money but because he cares and he loves to help. His office staff is amazing of course he couldn't be a success without having a great staff. My first visit I was impressed with the amount of information you receive not only from him but his staff. Overall I rate him a 10. If I lived in another State I would consider traveling so he could perform the surgery. According to my research his the best in the area.
Doctor Capella is someone who takes the time to explain the pros & cons of Gastric Bypass Surgery. He tells you the truth. His staff is very knowledgeable about the different areas leading up to surgery and well after.
Jackie, who handles the insurance billing, is a big asset as she knows how to handle the insurance companies to get you approved quickly. From my recollection, I was approved within 30 days of the first request. For those in the NY/NJ Metro Area, I highly recommend Dr. Capella for anyone looking to have this surgery or who just has questions about the possibility of having the Gastric Bypass Surgery.
My first impreesion was of a dignified, caring man. My feelings for him has not changed. His office staff is very helpful, and if they can't help they will ask the MD. He expects compliance, post-op visits and support group participation. However, I wish his support group would be more structured.
Pre-op, he has a class to answer any questions you my have. He and his son both have surgical competence and a good bedside manner. This MD helped give me my life back, and I will be forever grateful.
