I WAS VERY VERY IMPRESSED. I WAS THINKING AS HE WAS TALKING TO ME "THIS MAN LOVES WHAT HE DOES" WOW!!! HE ANSWERED ALL OF MY AND MY MOTHERS QUESTIONS.. THE OTHET THING I WAS IMPRESSED WITH WAS HE BEING A DOCTOR SHEOULD TOUCH HIS PATIENTS. HE SHOWED ME WHERE AND HOW HE WAS GOING TO DO THE SURGERY THAT WAS A PLUS IN MY BOOK . HE KEPT ME IMFORMED AND HIS STAFF WAS VERY VERY ON TOP OF THINGS.HE TOLD ME THE GOOD AND THE BAD HE DIDNT SHY AWAY FROM ANYTHING.IF I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN I WOULD CALL UPON HIM TO DO MY SURGERY.EVEN BEFORE MY SURGERY THE DAY OF HE CAME IN THE OPERATING ROOM AND ANSWERED A QUESTION I HAD.THAT PUT MY MIND AT EASE.I FEEL THAT DR.HIXSON IS A VERY VERY VERY GOOD SURGEON BECAUSE HE REALLY CARES ABOUT HIS CRAFT AND HIS PATIENCES. I THNK HIM 1 MILLION TIMES A DAY FOR HELPING ME CHANGE MY ,LIFE AND MY WAY OF LIVING. I WISH THERE WERE MORE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD LIKE HIM. I DID EVERYTHING HE AND HIS STAFF TOLD ME TO DO I DO BELIEVE DOING THAT AND HAVING THE MIND SET THAT I DIDNT WANT TO GO BACK IN THE HOSPITAL FOR ANYTHING CRAZY BECAUSE I DIDNT FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTION. HELPED ME STAY HEALTHY AND POSITIVE.
OOOH IM STILL LOSING EVEN AFTER ALMOST 19 MONTHS AFTER HAVING MY GASTIC BY-PASS SURGERY OCT 14, 2003. WOW.. tHANK U AGAIN DR.C.HIXSON
I am going to have my surgery performed by Dr Hixon here in Atlanta. He is very friendly and will answer all questions you may have. His staff which I primarily delt with Pamela is great..I had problems with a former insurance company a few months ago and she tried all she could for them to approve my surgery..which there was a time limit..it was Oct of 2004 and the company I was with at the time was no longer going to cover weight loss surgery after Dec 31 2004..so I quit my job there..and went to another company..she had all my paperwork ready to go once I informed them of a new insurance company..they approved me in two weeks..She is excellent!!!
Have my first appointment with him on July 20th.
Had surgery on Aug 23rd. His staff was very professional and caring. Made you feel comfortable in your decision. Dr. Hixon took all the time to answer any questions I had. Even gave us his cell phone number for if we had others and needed answers.Draws pictures to help illistrate what he is talking about. Explained the ups and downs, and advised he was only a call away when the downs hit!! I have seen him once a month for followup. Never have to wait long in his office. He understands everyones time is valuable. He did blood work and due to my numbers being well within ranges I dont have to see him unless there is a problem until Apr. Dr. Hixon made me feel like a person with value and not a number with a $ on them. I owe him my life.
I met with Dr. Hixon and his staff and they seem to be a bunch of nice, caring individuals. Dr. Hixon spent over an hour with me and my fiance, answered all our questions, explaining every detail. We watched a very graphic video of the surgery, it certainly takes talent and skill to perform this surgery. They do 20 surgeries a week and test and retest to be sure of their work. They are also Christians which is comforting to me. We are creating a journal and the Doc and his staff were more than happy to take pictures with me. They hugged me when I left. I believe them to be highly skilled and personable.
My 1st impression of Dr. Hixon was that he was very pleasant and personable.
My impression has NOT changed yet.
Dr. Hixon's staff is WONDERFUL... they are VERY good with keeping you updated and informed on what you need to do or know. ***Especially SARA!! I haven't worked w/Pamela much, but they are ALWAYS Pleasant!***
The Dr. was very busy and we only saw him once while there... I can't say I didn't like it, b/c he IS the Dr.
I think He's very knowledgeable about WLS and he has a program that operates "To a Tee"!
Dr. Hixon emphasizes aftercare to the utmost! He expresses the absolute importance of aftercare for the benefits of Weight Loss SUCCESS!
I don't have much information about the aftercare program, as of yet.
The Dr has thoroughly addressed the risks of surgery... And as with any situation/surgery... there are RISKS!
I rate Dr. Hixon AND his staff as EXCELLENT!! I couldn't have picked a better surgeon! I give the Practice a 10+ now... and I'll keep you posted AFTER Surgery!
I feel surgical competence comes FIRST and Bedside manner is equally great! So BOTH are definately a plus!

PRE-OP UPDATE: I feel Dr. Hixon is an even more EXCEPTIONAL And Competent Dr. than I thought Before!
My surgery was a complete and absolute success. The Dr stayed on top of my status, came to see me after surgery, explained what happened while I was "out" and what would be taking place during my hospital stay! He's the best.
My husband had his surgery done 5 days after me, by Dr. Hixon also. His surgery was a Success also. He did have Major complications after (an infection, fistule in new pouch, and arrythmia episode), Dr. Hixon, saw him regularly in ICU, explained everything that was occuring and what he thought should take place, EVERY step of the way! I APPRECIATED this, as I was very SCARED of losing him at this time. The Dr was patient with me/us/our family, called us, if we didn't call him and treated us all like "Family", NOT a number or regular patient! So in-fact, I Respect and admire "The Doc" now MORE than ever! I give anyone who asks, his number. I'm a walking ADVERTISEMENT! :)
PS. Pamela is the BEST! She knows her stuff... once I had some issues, she had me call her at home... OVER the weekend... is that SPECIAL treatment or what! I LOVE THEM, even Mrs. Hixon... they're all Genuine!!
Dr. Clarence Hixon is one of the personable professionals in this field. He was extremely thorough and patience. Throughout my experience he has always responded promptly (not hours or days later) to all my inquiries. He himself always got back to me and not an associate. I highly recommend Dr.Hixon as a surgeon for your Gastric Bypass in the Atlanta area. His office staff was as well very professional and thorough. There is absolutely nothing negative I can find to say about him.
Today was my initial consult with Dr Hixson. He seemed very personalable. He talked with me and my husband and addressed any issues that we had reguarding the RYN procedure. I must admit that I'm excited but of course somewhat apprehensive with having a major surgery such as this, but the benefits far outweight(no pun intended) the risk for me personally. Now the hard part is to get my PCP to agree with me:) Wish me luck.
My first expression was he really knows his business. He was friendly but I could tell busy.
No I still felt the same when all was done.
The office staff is great. They are the main ones I dealt with. They always were helpful and understanding.
I only saw him once before surgery date. I felt he should have seen me one more time before surgery.
He is very throul in making sure every needed specialist is seen. He relives on them alot. Recommended I find a support group in my area. But did not push any other aftercare, except his appointments. He does not have his own support group or after care program. You watch a video and then he goes over possible complications and you have to sign that he told you. He does not minimize the possible problems.
I would rate him excellent, a professional in his field, yet doesn't seem aloft. He;s open for guestions.
I would put surgical competence first and bedside manner second. Simply because he doesn't say alot, lets you ask questions but always the professional.
