At first I was a little uncomfortable because he is very quiet. I am very loud up front. However over time it has a very calming affect on me. He did answered all my questions. His staff was very nice, however they don't joke around much. I know that they are stressed and trying to get things done for everyone. They never treated me like I was fat or a bother. Just need to laugh once in a while. I wish he was little more talkative. He was very quiet but nice. He is very through. He will do all kinds of tests on you to make sure you are a-ok for surgery. You will know that you are very good hands with Dr Ferrari. He requires that all his patients go to at least 4-5 aftercare support groups. The staff supports this as well. He works with Newweigh program and they have all kinds of different kind of support groups. The staff has us read over all the possable complications and if we have questions we talk to him. I would over all give him a 7 in bedside manners and 12 on his knowledge in this procedure. I beleive that both of these are helpful with surgeries like these. However if he has a knowledgable staff then his bedside manner can be a 7 with no problems.
BEING HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS OURSELVES, WE HAVE WITNESS BEDSIDE MANNERS OF MANY, MANY PHYSICIANS OVER TIME, AND HAVE WORKED WITH SOME WHO HAD VERY STRONG PERSONALITIES. WE WERE EXTREMELY IMPRESSED WITH DR. FERRARI. NOT ONCE DID WE EVER FEEL RUSHED, IGNORANT, BELITTLED, ETC... AFTER MY EXAM, HE TOOK US TO HIS OWN OFFICE, AND HE MADE US FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE, AND ANSWERED ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS. I WAS IMPRESSED WITH HIS RECOGNITION FROM OTHER MEDICAL BOARDS. HE ALSO STRESSED COMPLIANCE, AND HIS AFTERCARE IS VERY STRUCTURED. HIS OFFICE STAFF IS FABULOUS AND THEY WORKED WITH ME AND DID SO MUCH TO HELP WITH THE INSURANCE PROCESS. THEY TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING, JUST BE PATIENT, THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF THINGS, AND THEY DID. THEY WERE ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO ADDRESS MY CONCERNS, CALM MY FEARS, AND IF THEY WERE BUSY, ALWAYS RETURNED MY PHONE CALLS THAT SAME DAY. I FEEL THAT DR. FERRARI IS A TRUE PATIENT ADVOCATE, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, HE WOULD NOT DO THE SURGERY IF YOU DID NOT MEET THE CRITERIA, OR WERE TOO HIGH OF A RISK FOR SURGERY, IN SHORT, HE'S NOT OUT TO MAKE A BUCK. AS FAR AS EXPERIENCE, WELL, HE'S DONE OVER 2,000 OF THESE SURGERIES, HE EVEN DID HIS OWN DAUGHTER! THERE IS NOT ONE THING I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT HIM. HE WAS VERY HONEST AND TOLD ME THE RISKS INVOLVED BUT ALSO TOLD ME HOW HE WOULD DEAL WITH A PROBLEM IF ONE WERE TO OCCUR. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT EVEN THOUGH I QUALIFIED FOR AND HE WOULD INDEED PREFORM THE PROCEDURE LAPARASCOPICALLY, HE TOLD ME THAT IF HE WERE TO RUN INTO TROUBLE THAT THERE WAS THE POSSIBILITY THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO DO IT OPEN. I ALSO TALKED WITH HIS PATIENTS IN THE WAITING ROOM AND THEY ALL RAVED ABOUT HIM AND SPOKE OF HOW HE CAME HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO THEM. I JUST LOVE HIM, AND TRULY TRUST HIM. I WOULD RATE HIM, ON A SCALE OF ONE TO TEN, WITH TEN BEING THE HIGHEST, A DEFINITE 10. HIS SURGICAL COMPETENCE AND HIS BEDSIDE MANNER ARE GREAT. IF YOU ARE IN HIS AREA, I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM. DON'T EXPECT HIM TO SUGAR COAT ANY THING THOUGH, HE WILL BE HONEST ABOUT ALL THE RISKS AND WILL EXPLAIN IT IN DETAIL. HE SEEMS TO REALLY BE STRICT WITH COMPLIANCE ISSUES, AND EXPECTS YOU TO GET OUT OF BED AND WALK AS SOON AS YOU WAKE UP, BUT THAT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. I HAVEN'T HAD SURGERY YET, AM SCHEDULED FOR MAY 9TH, SO I CAN'T REALLY TELL YOU ABOUT HIS POST-OP CARE, BUT FROM WHAT I'VE EXPERIENCEDWITH HIM PRE-OP I FEEL HE'LL BE JUST AS GREAT.
My first impression of him was he was very quite and in a hurry. I have since went for my preop and he took more time in explaining everything about the surgery. His office staff is always ready to answer questions.
the neweigh program really emphazises the aftercare support group for all aftercare needs. Neweigh sends abunch of brochures and info about the surgery. Ihave found alot of info on the internet. So far i rate him good because we hacve not had much dealings with each other yet. My surgery is March 18 2002
so that will tell the tell. I have alot of questions about the aftercare diets that i can not seem to get answered by anyone so i am a little flustrated with that part of the surgery.I guess it is just me wanting all the answers upfront. My husband is having the open rny sometime in May so it will be an experience for both of us.
Dr. Ferrari was not at all waht I expected, from all the other profiles I pictured a shy man that wouldn't talk. Just the opposite, he was very informative answered all my questions and honestly I must add. He was even a bit on the funny side we laughed out loud twice and he was full of smiles. I like that. He also sent me for additional testing (like everyone else) but he explained all the tests to me too. I just felt really good when I left his office. The staff at NeWeigh are all patients of his too. Which meant they were all in my shoes at one time so they were so friendly. The office was even nice, not like a waiting room more like a living room. All of this means nothing when it comes to my actual surgery but for now this is all I have to base my opinions on, when I know more relevant stuff I will be sure to add it here.
Dr. Ferrari is a wonderful surgeon. He was very upfront and honest with all of my expectations. He seemed truely sincere in talking with him and his focus was very individualised.
His office staff is very helpful and when I call it seems like I am the most important person there, almost like noone else is even there.
I loved Dr. Ferrari's openness and personalized attention.
Aftercare is the most important thing with Dr. Ferrari.
He is very open with all of the risks of surgery.
He was an excellant surgeon in all aspects.
I had my 1st surgery consult with Dr. Ferrari yesterday 2/7/02. I found him very easy to talk to and very calming. He answered all of my questions and took the time to make sure that I understood every phase of the surgery and recovery. Blanca, in his office is wonderful. I have some co-morbidities that aren't particularly uncommon and by themselves aren't that great a risk. But, put them all together they spell "high-risk". Therefore, not for the insurance, but for himself, he has ordered a whole battery of tests. I really like that. Because of my high BMI and Co-morbidities he prefers to do the procedure "open" instead of "LAP". He says that Laps take longer and he doesn't want me on the table for an extended period of time. So far, all of my impressions have been good.
I have decided to go with Dr Carlos Ferari with Neweigh out of Houston. My first impression of Dr Ferrari is that he is a bit on the quite side, but very caring. He gave me ample time to ask any question that I had. His staff have been very nice to work with, but it took a long time to get everything to the insurance office. My first visit was Nov 19th and I didnt get approval till the beginning of Jan 2002. It was really stressed to me how important the after care program with Neweigh is for success with this weight loss.
My first impression of Dr. ferrari was he was very intelligent and very informative and really wanted to answer any and all questions that I had. I have not had the surgery yet, and I will post an update after I have surgery of the out-come. He is affiliated with NeWeigh and they basically handle the insurance leg work, and his staff at NeWeigh is a great support team! They are there to answer any all questions that you may have. I am sooo very happy that I accidently came up on NeWeigh, and called them the very first time I decided to go through with this surgery. I saw a commerical on TV, and then I accessed their web site, and filled out some info. on their web site, and about a week later I got a call from Carla (little sister) who also has had this surgery, and she scheduled an appointment for me.. NeWeigh also has a structured weekly and later monthly aftercare program that you must attend. I had to sign a paper stating that I would indeed attend the after care program! On a scale from 1 to 10 I would rate Dr. Ferrari a 10 as of right now...
MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR. FERRI WAS VERY ASSURED. HE WAS VERY INFORMATIVE, HELPFUL AND HE ANSWERED ALL OF MY QUESTIONS IN FULL DETAIL.
THE OFFICE STAFF IS GREAT.
ONLY THING I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT DR. FERRI IS OUR SESSION HAD TO END.
FUTURE PATIENTS SHOULD KNOW THAT HE IS AN OPENED MINDED PERSON. IF YOU HAVE ANY UNCERTAINTIES PLEASES ASK.
HE HAS A VERY WELL STRUCTURED AFTERCARE
PROGRAM.
