My first impression of my surgeon was a very good one. I was very impressed that he took the time to answer ALL of my endless questions. Personal and professional. My impression has remained the same so far. The office staff at NeWeigh has been incredible. I know that they must be flooded with calls every day from people like me who just can't wait to find out if they have been approved or not. I was always treated with courtesy each and every call that I made. I was so impressed with all of them. The aftercare program looks like it will be extremely helpful. I was so excited on the day of my initial consultation at the office. There were lots of women there who had the surgery or were just like me, hoping for the surgery. There was so much input and openness about all of it. Dr. Ferrari did put all of the risks of the surgery on the table up front. I think that most people who are classified as "morbidly obese", are already under a considerable risk. The risks of the surgery seem to be "normal" for the type of surgery, considering that overweight people have more risks to begin with. I approve of Dr. Ferrari, so far. I think that when a person has confidence in their surgeon, it will make a difference in recovery. As for bedside manner, he is straightforward. I like that. I would rather be told the facts, than babied about it. He was very nice, though. My husband also liked him.
My first impression was a quiet man who's physical examination of me was very brief and specific. After the physical examination, I spoke with Dr. Ferrari in his office and he told me that he thought an open procedure was indicated based upon his physical exam findings. He offered explanations regarding the surgical procedure itself and then offerd an opportunity for me to ask my own questions. As I have spent about 2 years researching the RNY procedure (and have been an RN for 16 years)there wasn't a whole lot about the procedure that I didn't understand, but Dr. Ferrari was able to help me feel more comfortable about the expected outcomes of the procedure. Also, Dr. Ferrari was very forthright in discussing the increased risks of surgery for any obese person and ordered some additional tests (sleep study, glucose tolerance, thyroid study, cardiology clearance by an MD, and pulmonology clearance)for me in order for him to provide optimum safety pre and post operatively. Overall, a quiet and efficient guy! I'm looking forward to further talks after insurance approval. I'll keep you posted.
My first impression with Dr. Ferrari is that he was a person that takes his profession very seriously. No room for mistakes. He has a quiet, yet friendly way about himself. He's a very good listener and gives good advice/suggestions. Being 6 wks post op, my impression of him is still the same, I can tell after all the patiences he sees he remembers me (jokes). He's very supportive in your recovery and wants to know about your recovery and daily practices. He also emphasizes the importacne of the Aftercare program. There are a few women on staff @ the Neweigh facitily in Houston would have had Bairatric surgery at one point, so support runs deep within those walls.
I have no compliants about Dr. Ferrari, I wish he was that one fits all doctor for everything!!!
I did not go through Nu Weigh to get an appointment with Dr. Ferrari. I found Dr. Ferrari through this website and after studing hundreds of profiles from patients he treated decided he was the Dr. for me. Dr. Ferrari's office was very busy, but I never had to wait long to be able to see him. Dr. Ferrari is a very quiet spoken man and his bedside manner is not great - he is very abrupt and to the point, but because I had read all the patient profiles, I was not surprised by his demeanor - rather I was prepared for it. He was very thorough and ordered a battery of tests including one for sleep apnea. He did address the possible risks of the surgery and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. I knew that he had performed over 1,000 Bariatric Surgeries, many of them Laparoscopic and felt he was a well experienced surgeon. My surgery went wonderfully well with no problems (other than a hiatal hernia Dr. Ferrari found and repaired) and I saw Dr. Ferrari several times during my hospital stay of 2 days. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate him a "4" on bedside manner, but a "10+" on surgicial skills. His office assistant, Blanca is a sweet, caring woman and was a great help in dealing with my insurance company and getting my surgery scheduled as soon as possible after I got my insurance approval. Overall I would highly recommend Dr. Ferrari and his staff.
I met Dr. Ferrari in late April. He was very upfront about his reluctance to do a revision from my VGB to the RNY due to risk factors. I feel that he gave me the complete picture and didn't sugar-coat anything. I appreciated his honesty. He could tell that I was upset and then went on to tell me that he would re-evaluate the situation after initial testing and presented a very caring attitude. I left the office with his instructions to complete medical evaluations and then forward results to his office. I completed the evaluations (all 6!) by the end of May. I was given a surgery date (after insurance approval) of Sept. 17th. I will meet with Dr. Ferrari again on the 11th. In my opinion, his office seems to be well run although one of his staff members was untruthful concerning her submitting my completed paperwork (not once but twice) to the insurance companies and delayed my surgery for a month. This would not have been a problem except I communicated to the office that I worked for a school and really needed to do everything possible to have the surgery during the summer. I hope steps have been taken to remedy this situation and hope that perhaps this was an isolated incident with this staff member and trust that this will not happen with others. Presently, I have had a pleasant and professional experience wtih Dr. Ferrari and staff.
My first impression was great. Just loved him and his nurse Blanca. He is sort of hard for me to understand - but he took all the time with with me and I never felt like he was in a hurry. He really stresses the 6 appointments ranging over 12 months that I will have to go to after the surgery. I feel like I am in the right place for this life altering decision in my life.
Dr. Ferrari was great. My incision is only 5" long. He got in and out in about 1 hour. I was very impressed with him before and after my surgery. I would rate him a 8.5 overall. I still have trouble understanding him and he is not much on words. I would definately pick him again if I had it to do over again.
Now - as far as Cy Fair Hospital goes - that is another story. I would not go there again ever.
Upon my first visit to Dr. Ferrari, I was impressed with knowledge and sinsitivity to my problem. He was completly informative and confident. With each visit and through surgery and beyond I have complete confidence in Dr. Ferrari. The office staff was very informative and simpathetic to my problem and needs. There is nothing that I did not like about Dr. Ferrari or his staff.
Future patients should know that he is very honest and straight forward about the procedure and the care you will recieve before and after surgery.. He is also honest about the after effect of the drastic weight loss and change in your life.Dr. Ferrari stresses th need for after care and the importance of life changing habits that will assure a better quality of life.
Dr. Ferrari was very straight forward about the positives and negatives of having the surgery. I rate Dr. Ferrari and exemplary over all as a doctor and a human being.Dr. Ferrari's sugical competence is excellent and his bedside manner is wonderful!
First impression of Dr. Ferrari - he's a lot shorter than I thought he would be. (smile) He was very nice and to the point. He was happy to answer any questions I had and also asked several questions of me. He seemed very knowledgeable and was very forthright with his answers. No sugar coating. His staff was EXCELLENT! Blanca, his nurse, was GREAT!!! She too was very helpful with setting up the appointment, helping with the consultation, and offering any advice she could to help speed up the approval process. The administrative staff was great too! Can't say there was anything I didn't like about Dr. Ferrari or his staff. It was a pleasant experience and I didnt walk away unsure of my decision for the WLS. Dr. Ferrari was very specific about the aftercare and the expectations that were required of me. The after care program is explained in detail as well. We did discuss the risks involved - I continue to have a good outlook on the process regardless. Overall rating of Dr. Ferrari would have to be a 9 out of 10 - after all, no one's perfect! I regards to choosing between surgical competence or bedside manner - I would have to choose surgical competence. But I feel Dr. Ferrari is going to do well with both. We'll see...
