My first impression was his beautiful compassionate blue eyes. He was very soft spoken and relatively quiet. His confidence was perfect, not to cocky and not to humble. He answered all my questions, drew some pictures and that was about it. The office was very busy that day and so I tried to be respectful of his time and didn't tarry. I really liked him, much more so than Dr. Kasper, who I had met the day before..night and day difference between them. I have a great deal of confidence in Dr. Ferrari and believe he is the one that I want to do my surgery. It helped that two of the girls in the office were former patients of his...they answered more questions and really helped my get more comfortable with this entire process. I really like the fact that there is such a strong and structured aftercare program, they encourage patients to attend the support group mtgs even before surgery, which I plan on doing. The biggest negative was how quiet he was and that he didn't ask me many questions. I also felt alittle rushed when I was with the Dr. due to how busy the office was.
Dr. Ferrari was very nice, he made sure that this is what I wanted and that I understood the procedure completely. Dr. Ferrari let me know upfront that the aftercare is most important to help acheive my weight loss goals. He requires several post op visits and Neweigh has a support group.
The office staff at Neweight has also been great, several of his staff members have had weight loss surgery so they can answer your questions from first hand experience.
Well I met with Dr. Ferrari this past Wednesday. My first impression of the office was great.. Everyone was really nice and the atmosphere was terrific.. I met a lot of post ops and they also agreed that Dr. Ferrari was wonderful.. Needless to say that I am very pleased.. He took the time to visit with me and I asked him a lot of questions that I had typed out.. Dr. Ferrari was very patient and thorough. He answered all my questions and after leaving his office I felt very confident... I would recommend Dr. Ferrari to anyone who is considering bariatric surgery...
Dr. Ferrari was all business, asked questions about previous surgeries, a quick look at my stomach, checked my blood pressure, then I dressed and went into his office. He said I was a candidate for Lap RNY, answered my questions. He lightened up when he found out I had infertility problems but now have four children. He was very knowlegable about the surgery and felt I was a good candidate for weight loss surgery. He did stress the after care program and assured me that the risks with surgery out weighed life without surgery. I am very confident in his skills and trust he is the right surgeon for me.
I have not met my surgeon yet but I go in for my first apointment with him May 17th. i requested information form 3 area sergeons and they each sent information in the mail. Dr Farrarie is the only one that sent eduacational information as well as history of him self I was touched to learn that he perfomed the Lap RNY on his own daughter. I will update again after I have met with him.
~~4/29/02~~
My husband and I saw Dr. Ferrari last Wednesday. We liked him. Apparently he is only at NeWeigh on Wednesdays. Dr. Ferrari is a contract surgeon with NeWeigh. I was told that if I had any medical questions, I would ask Dr. Ferrari and if I had any nutritional or other questions, I would ask the staff at NeWeigh. It's a very interesting relationship.

Dr. Ferrari asked me if I had any questions so I went down my list a bit and he took all the time I needed to answer every one of them. I feel very confident about Dr. Ferrari's abilities. I understand he even did this surgry on his daughter. Dr. Ferrari ordered some tests based on my answers during the "intake" process. He seems very thorough.

Usually my doctors help me schedule any tests that are needed, but through NeWeigh, I was given the orders and asked to get the tests completed. This was a little confusing at first because I didn't know where to go (especially for a sleep study). I had to call my insurance for advice. I did manage to get all of the tests done by the end of the week and the results are making their way to NeWeigh.

~~4/19/02~~
Just found out Dr. Spivak doesn't do RNYs since 11-01. Looking for new doctor.

~~3/6/02~~
My husband and I attended one of Dr. Spivak's monthly seminars. We were shown a video explaining what was involved in bariatric surgery using the adjustable gastric band and what we could expect. Then he opened the floor for Q&A (no time to ask all of your questions though. I am looking forward to that at the consulation 4/18/02). Dr. Spivak outlined a brief history of bariatric surgery and the difference between having surgery that is restrictive only(Lapband) and restrictive/malobsortive(gastric bypass). Everyone was very nice and Dr. Spivak was very informative.
Afterwards, we were able to pick up an application pack to complete and bring back with us after we schedule a consultation.

It didn't take me over a month to get in to see Dr. Spivak. I just had to think things through some more before I called. :-)
My surgeon is Dr. Carlos Ferrari and he's wonderful. He's quiet, knowledgeable, and very easy to talk to and ask questions. I first met Dr. Ferrari on 04/04/02 and I felt he was a wonderful Dr. then and I am even more impressed with him today. Everybody's favorite(Blanca) is just a wonderful person. She's very intelligent and she gets the job done. The Dr. has a very good office staff but I would keep in touch often to make sure things are in order and running along smoothly. Future patients should go there with their homework already done(research) and already have in mind what type of surgery they are interested in. Dr. Ferrari does have a very structured aftercare program and he puts great emphasis on it. He explained all the risks of the surgery. I would rate him a 10 overall. To me a good doctor shoukld has both surgical competence and a good bedside manner and Dr ferrari has both of them. The only negative thing I would have to say is the long drive to Houston was exhausting and the traffic was terrible.
Dr. Ferrari performed my original VBG in 1995 and I contacted him again to see about performing my revision. He is a very skilled surgeon and I feel totally confident in his abilities.
The only thing is that because he is so busy and only sees patients one day a week at Neweigh, anyone who is considering using him will have to be very patient. But once you get in to see him he will go over the surgery and answer as many questions as you have.
From what I can remember 7 years ago, he was very good about coming round to my hospital room and seemed to really care about my recovery. I am hoping to have another good experience with him.
