My counselor Bea at NeWeigh was very helpful with my scheduling. I live two hours away from their office, and she was able to set me up with a visit with the Doc and a visit with the Intake counselors. I was very impressed with the office building itself. You walk in and feel like you could take a nap on the sumptuous leather couch. The offices are really lovely, and tastefully decorated. I started the process on the 21st. Claudia, who is a "little sister", and Gloria are hoping that my insurance company will accept everything on the first go around. Hope to write more soon.
I was relieved to learn that he has done so many surgeries. He seemed very relaxed despite the backlog of patients in the waiting room. My appt. was at 10:00 to see Blanca (I saw her at 12:30) and at 1:00 to see the doctor (I saw him at 4:30) so be prepared to wait at your appt. The staff was very nice though. The Dr. answered all my questions, and said I was a good candidate for surgery. They gave me a list of tests to complete and once they get the results they will give me a surgery date. I would rate the Dr. a 10 for surgical competence (most important).

I met w/ Dr Ferrari on Thursday 1-2-03 and my first impression of him had to have been his seriousness about the surgery. He answered whatever questions I had. Although, I wish I could have spent more time w/ him to at least sit down in his office instead of in one of the rooms. His staff seems great. They were very nice to my husband and I and went over all the test I need to have done. I must say Dr Ferrari did not emphasize aftercare too much. Our visit just happened too fast. He came in asked if I had any questions, answered them and was out the door. Maybe it was because I had told him I knew alot about the surgery already because I was originally seeing another Dr. But once I get a surgery date I will ask for one more "sit down" visit with him.
My first impression of him was that he wanted to make sure this surgery was in my best interest, not the interest of his pocketbook. My impression of him has not changed in that regard. He is very serious about you making informed decisions, and he wants you to ask questions. He is very adamant that you not smoke and gets upset when he feels that you did not do what was in the best interest of your health (I started smoking just a few days before surgery after quitting for months, my nerves I guess.) there was nothing that I disliked about him. He is a very serious doctor, not a lot of small talk, but all the time you need for questions and answers about this surgery. The staff is the one that informed me about the risks, but they were very informative. I like that most of his staff had wls of some fashion as well, as that made me feel they really understand where we are coming from. I feel his surgical competence is great, and his bedside manner is fine. Overall, I would rate him on a scale of 1-10 (ten being best) I would give him a ten. Just to cover my butt, in case anything I say offends someone...lol...These are my observations, and my opinions.
Dr. Ferrari is the best. He is sweet as pie and I know good pie. Blanca the nurse who works in his office has been so helpful and supportive. She is very knowledgeable. Dr. Ferrari has be great so far my Surgery is scheduled for December 19th.
I think Dr. Ferrari thinks I am a nut. He says I am too cheery. Everytime I see him I have a smile on my face which is normally for me I am a little hyper. He says he loves that about he knows that my surgery will work out will and laughter is the best medicine.
Dr. Ferrari came across as a doctor that was concerned about me and how I felt and why I wanted to have the surgery. Over the time I felt more comfortable with him. I had a small complication that I could feel that NG-tube wasn't inserted correctly after I was up and walking around within the 8 hours after surgery. The nurses at the hospital told me not to worry. Well, I coughed and sure enough I felt a piercing and the NG tube went to in the incision and I started to cough blood everywhere. Dr. Ferrari was there at 4AM in the morning along with a other doctor that took care of putting me back under and catherizing where the NG tube had gone thru. I could tell that he was greatly concerned over what happened. I know that he is concerned about his patients. I overcame this mishap. I just wish that the nursing staff would of listedned to me from the beginning when I told them that I didn't feel like the NG tube was correctly in place. His staff is great about answering any questions that I had before or after and until now they continue to give me support. I would refer him to anyone that I knew was interested in having the surgery. His emphasize on the aftercare was great. He is a compassionate Doctor and seems to really be intune with what my concerns were. He went into details about the risk of the surgery as with any surgery risk are always involved. I would rate him a 9 from a scale of 1 to 10. Beside manners were great and his visits to the hospital to visit were great as well.
