He was friendly and got right to the point. He was concerned enough about my placement of fat enough to recommend being sent to endocinrologist for further testing in the in term.
He was quite honest saying after the first 50 lbs the rest was up to me and what I put in my mouth.
His staff was bright and friendly and the building was right across from the hospital.
He empasized a couple of weeks of care would be needed from someone who LOVED me.
He recommended staying a week after the week in the hospital to recooperate and then his nurse could removed tube and stapels before I left for home.
The important thing he said that hit home was the fact that if I followed his instructions I would get maximum weight loss and no complications.
He also liked that I had suport of the "Snowflakes" the Manitoba support group of bariatric surgery patients.
He addressed the risks of surgery completely....and allowed me time to ask any questions I had....and also said if I had any questions in the future to feel free to call and ask anytime.
I was nervous when I first arrived but by the time I left,....felt he could help me and I was definately more confident.
My first impression was he is very soft spoken with a good sense of humor.
My impression has not changed other than I think he is wonderful and very caring
His office Staff were wonderful, caring and thorough.
I have nothing negative to say.
He is worth the wait.
He urged me to see my own doc when needed and to come for scope and 1 yr checkup.
I'm not sure how aftercare works-live 8 hrs away.
Dr Nohr let me ask the questions and he answered very bluntly.
I would rate him a 10/10
His surgical competence is better than his bedside manner he is just quiet and soft spoken but, he was at the hospital everyday, called me at home after my scope and surgery himself. I thought he was fantastic.
Dr. Nohr is very nice. He made me feel comfortable. He said to me that once I left his office and if I had any questions no matter how small or how silly to just call his office and they would be glad to help me.
The staff was very friendly and hospitable. They gave me step by step instructions on the surgery and the do's and don't prior to the surgery.
Dr. Nohr explained the procedure and what will be done and what will happen after the operation.
He asked me how supportive is my husband and family to me doing this - I got the feeling he was asking this question to see if I was feeling pressured by my husband - absolutely not!!
In my opinion Dr. Nohr is a very quiet but pleasant man. I had difficulty hearing him due to a hearing loss so I always tried to have somebody with me in case I missed anything he said. His nurse at the clinic is divine. She has bent over backwards for both me and my daughter. I think that he could have spent a lot more time on aftercare but he does have a support group in place to do that but since we don't live in Medicine Hat we have not been able to attend. He really never went into a lot of risks other than to say that there were all the same risks that go along with any abdominal surgery. He did tell me that I would have to exercise and what foods I would have to avoid. All in all though I think that he is great.
When I first met him I thought he seemed like he was very serious with no bedside manner. Boy was I wrong. He is a very serious surgeon. He is very cautious which I very much appreciated. He has a wonderful sense of humour once you get to know him and he cares very deeply about his patients.I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon.
The nurse in his office, Karen, is a wonderful person as well. She will answer any questions if you call her.
Dr. Nohr's wait list seems to be getting longer and longer. Right now you are looking at a 6 month wait for conult and another 12 month wait for surgery. He is worth the wait for sure!!
He very much emphasizes an after care program. I go in and see him every 3 months during my first year. After the first year, I see him annually. He also does a gastroscope about 6 weeks after surgery to make sure everything is healed up well. He is the only doctor I know of who routinely does this and again, that makes me more comfortable with him.
I mentioned that at my consult, Dr. Nohr was very serious. The reasons for this, I have since learned, are because he wants to make sure that you know all of what the surgery entails and the seriousness of your decision. He was very clear on the risks. Also, in Canada we don't have psych evaluations and so he has to make a judgement call, based on the consult, as to weather you can handle the psychological aspects of WLS surgery. Believe me, there are more psychological aspects than you think!
On a scale of 1-10, I think Dr. Nohr is an 11. You could not find a more competent surgeon and his care fore his patients is superb.
