My first impression of doctor Nohr was (very professional). My impression of doctor Nohr didn't exactly change over time as far as being professional is concerned. I saw a more involved and compassionate side to Dr. Nohr when I was in hospital, after surgery. I was in the hospital for six days, he came and checked on me 5 out of the 6 days I was there. He gave me heck for eating too much breakfast one morning. He has a great since of humor. I would refer him to people if they asked. Dr. Nohr informed of all of the things I needed to know before and after surgery.
I had my consultation with Dr Nohr and was happy with him. I did have questions for him but it was like he knew what questions I was going to ask and answered them before I had a chance. I suppose he probably gets asked the same questions every time. His assistant is very nice and a pleasure to talk to.
My first impression of him was that he was quiet, and after having my surgery I found him still quiet however i felt that he was very competent and he visited me everyday to check up on me and I really liked that. rnrnDr. Nohr's office staff were friendly and great but they are very busy.rnrnAnyone considering this surgery should do their homework and read the forums here to find out what to expect after surgery like needles in their legs, and no drinking for three days etc. Ask questions if you have any as he is very quiet however he will answer any questions you have. There is no aftercare unless you have complications.rnrnDr. Nohr definately addressed all the risks of surgery and explained exactly what was going to happen. I would say he was a first rate doctor and would recommend him to anyone. He is very experienced and has been doing this surgery for over 17 years. He does a few per week. rnrnI feel surgical competence is the most important consideration.
The Lethbridge Herald (Sherri Gallant) ran a story (04/14/06/) on a patient who remained anon. She had the bypass in November of 2005 only to discover that she was pregnant. After consultation, she went to Calgary to have an abortion. She has filed a complaint with the Physicians and Surgeons which was news to Dr. Nohr. He was sorry she had done that because he would have liked to help her. She complained that she wasn't given adequate information for post diet other than "no sugar" but wanted to know whether she could have pop and sugar because she really likes it. She has lost 60 pounds by the time the article was written but said she was depressed.
I feel for this woman, it's got to be tough, but we need to be more responsible. Getting pregnant was very reckless and 100% avoidable - plus complaining that she wants pop and sugar says that this woman seems to be self sabotaging. Post-op and post abortion is not fun but I wonder how depressed this woman would be anyway?
Dr. Nohr is a very soft spoken and capable surgeon. He has a terrific reputation for surgical competence and for caring for his patients. He made a visit to check on me while in the hospital everyday...but the visits were very brief. He was very willing to answer any questions I put to him, but he doesn't offer any information on his own. Follow up for people from out of town is with their own physicians. Teaching is virtually non-existent...so do your research!!!
My first impression of Dr. Nohr was he was quiet and a man of few words. As soon as I sat down in his office I felt like I could kick off my shoes and just hang out and chat. He made me feel right at home and relaxed immediately.
He was very up front about side affects and the risks.
After having so many other programs fail for me when he said he would accept me as a patient for Gastric Bypass, I remember saying to him thank you for giving me a life.
