When I first met him I thought he was a bit standoffish. He didnt seem to be interested at all. Then my seecond visit was different he was more interested and answered all of the quesstions I had at the time. HIs office staff was very friendly and encouraging. But after the surg when I had all of the problems that I had I was very upset with him cause he aacted as if it was all my fault that I had the trouble that I did. Once i got out of the hospital each time and there were several there was never any follow up calls or anything from him or his office. I was and still am very disappointed in him and the office.
There was no support group or anything at that time,He neever did tell me all of the risks of the surg like how you can get cirroshiss of the liver cause of the surg, or how you will now be prone to kidney stones. I would rate him on a scale of 1 to 10 10 being the greatest, i would give him a 4.

After a long month of getting all of the required paperwork, I finally was able to meet Dr. Naaman. I had heard so much about him and how wonderful he is and he is just that. He is the warmest sweetest kindest person I have met in a long time. His staff was very helpful and loving. I am so ready to have my surgery. My faith is strong and God is in control in the situation and I could not ask for a better surgeon. He told me that he was impressed by me for being so organized and asked me if I want to ask him questions or if I want him to review the pamphlet on the surgery-- I chose the pamphlet but he was impressed with how much I was aware of, So I have done my homework. Since I have done research and belong to the Houston Area RNY Support group that consists of majority Dr. Naaman patients and meets at Memorial Herman, I have receive lots of information. He explained the risks, explained aftercare, and told me what I need to do pre-op so that the surgery will be a success which was walk 30 minutes a day and take 2 Flinstone vitamins a day. By the Grace of God my surgery will be Friday March 12th and I am so excited and ready to begin my new life. Dr. Naaman was recommended to me by friends of mine that have had the surgery through him, so on a scale of 1 to 10 he is a million. I love him to death.
Dr. Naaman is the most caring, professional and compassionate physician that I have ever had the privledge of meeting. From the moment I called his office his staff ensured that I felt as if my case was a priority. Dr. Naaman and his staff took the time to talk and listen to me while assisting me in making my decision to have bariatric surgery. Even after surgery his bed side manner proved to be superior. He is tough in his expectations of his patients but it is for their own good and I believe he is the reason I have been so successful in my weight loss. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in having this surgery.
I had originally been with another surgeon in Houston, but did not feel totally satisifed and I had joined a support group of people who had the surgery performed by Dr. Naaman. After meeting with him and his staff, I was totally confident in changing to him and have not had problems to date and would highly recommend him and would not hesitate in repeating this life changing (for the better) surgery!
Dr. Naaman was a very pleasant man. He explained the surgery procedure, how much weight I could expect to lose, examined me and answered all my questions. He also asked my husband if he had any questions. His staff was knowledgeable and supportive and explained each step in detail as to what I should expect. He didn't really discuss aftercare with me at this visit except to stress that the first 6 wks were the most difficult. He did not discuss the risks but gave me a pamphlet to read and he went over it briefly. I went in knowing that this was the surgeon I wanted. I have heard that he has done over 850 wls procedures. Surgical competence is by far more important than bedside manner, however I believe Dr. Naaman will be good at both. I have great confidence in Dr. Naaman.
My first impression of Dr. Naaman was he was a very educated man. He was very comfortable with the surgery and and explained it very well. His office staff was friendly.
I went ahead and chose him as my RYN surgeon. I felt very confident he was the best for the job.
As time when on my feeling changed. I had some problems that worried me. I felt like the were never really addressed and I recieved the run around alot.
I felt like if I ever went against him or thought out loud I made him angry. He seemed to be rude on some occasions.
10 months later I was back in the hospital and was fighting for my life. I spent three months in the hospital. while I was in the hospital many things became unanswered and the questions are still unanswered. I felt as alot of time I was played between my surgeon and my family. I lost all faith and confidence. At this point I transfered hospitals.
I now have a new surgeon. I am still on the road to recovery. It will be a long time. I only wish I knew now what I should have know then.
SO if you were to ask me if I would do this again... I would say I would have been more educated about it. I would have checked out
surgeons more throughly. I would go to the floor to where his pts. are gettting care and ask the nursing staff questions and thier body language towards the doctor. I would call attorney and check out if they have been sued. I would do everything I possibly could to do to make sure the surgeon is qualified. Remember this surgery is not a quick fix. It will change your life forever.
He seems like a real nice man...kinda quiet, but very attentive. He went over the procedure with me and listened to any questions or concerns I had. From what I've read, he's a very respected doctor and I didn't see anything that would contradict that opinion. If anything changes about my views, I will update later. On the other hand, some of his staff members need to take "customer service" lessons and learn that we (the patients, the ones calling them and "nagging" them) are the very ones who provide the money for their paychecks, so they need to show a little patience and tact.
9/11/03 - I met with Dr. Naaman today and I thought he rocked. I have read so much about him on this site, that I thought he would be a grizzly old bear. I kept reading comments like, "direct", "no-nonsense", "to-the-point", "doesn't mess around", etc... I thought he was a very shy man, with a ready smile and eager to answer any questions I had. I liked him immediately. And, his staff is the best I've ever had the pleasure to work with... talk about a tightly-run ship... these people have it together. No waiting, no confusion... nothing but a smooth, easy process. I can't wait to have my surgery. Now all I have to do is wait for the approval from BCBS. Getting closer.... wish me luck! Kimmie
