I had already heard alot about Dr. Wangsa before I met him. I have 2 friends who had there surgery done by him. I liked him, he is freindly and very willing to answers questions. I decide to go to Houston from Dallas because of his experience with Lap surgey. There are some Dr. here in Dallas who are starting to do but none on my ins. with his experience. So... hi ho hi ho it's off to Houston I go. Sorry I had to do it.
Dr. Wongsa was very thorough and explained things to me. He answered all of my questions. He is a wonderful doctor. His office staff is very kind and helpful. Ruth is very helpful and follows up on all calls placed to her. Dr. Wongsa expects his patients to follow his orders about eating and drinking. He has his nurse Ruth call you on the phone to see how you are progressing. She checks to see how much weight you have lost since your last visit. The risks of surgery were explained to me at my first office visit. I would rate Dr. Wongsa very high on the 10+ list. He came to see me twice a day at the hospital. He emphazied walking and getting up and regaining my strength. The doctors office does not have an aftercare program, but, I visit him once a month and also I have lab work done. His surgical competence and bedside manner is impecable. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering obesity surgery.
TALK ABOUT NOT MINCEING WORDS !! DR. WONGSA IS ALL WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID AND MORE !! HE IS THOROUGH AND STRAIGHT FORWARD !! MY INSTINCTS WERE CORRECT IN CHOOSING DR WONGSA ANS HIS STAFF...THEY ALL HAVE LITTLE HIDDEN ANGEL WINGS IN THEIR UNIFORMS THAT ONLY HIS CLIENTS CAN SEE AND EXPERIENCE...THEY ARE VERY NICE AND GENUINELY HELPFUL !! SO FAR SO GOOD...MY SURGERY DATE IS OCT. 24, 2001..AND BARRING ANY UNFORESEEN PROBLEMS , ALL IS A GO...NOW TO GET THOSE PESKY AND NEEDED PRE-OP TESTS...YUM---(NOT!)YUCK !!
My first impression of Dr. Wongsa was that he is very blunt
and to the point. Which I appreciated, most of the time when
an overweight person goes to the dr. they are treated like a
second class citizen and dismissed due to their size.
Dr. Wongsa did not treat me that way at all. I went to see him,
he told me some hard truths and made me very aware that the
choice I am making has some real consequences
that aren't all pretty - but the end result is
worth it if you are committed. I think he is great.
I will continue to post
my progress. Thanks for all of you who have been so caring and supportive.
8/21/01 Now that I am post-op I cannot begin to tell you how happy I have been with Dr. Wongsa! He ROCKS! If you are lucky enough to have him as your surgeon - you will not regret it!
My first impression was good. He was a very nice man. He was honest, straight forward and encouraging. He made me feel comfortable being me, and that I did not have to be treated like a 2nd class citizen. Office staff was friendly. Ruth called me several times to let me know I had been approved. She faxed the information to the insurance carrier so the wait would not be so long. I am glad I chose this Dr. He does not have an aftercare program. He stresses the need for following his diet instructions for maximum weight loss.
I switched to Dr. Wongsa for many reasons. I respect Dr. Jay and think he is a fine surgeon and have heard only great things. However, he was not the right one for me. Dr. Wongsa was blunt to the point and I loved him. His office staff rocks and I have nothing but good to say about it all. !! I am excited!
8-16-01 I made the BEST decision when I switched to Dr. Wongsa. He was truly more than one could ever ask for. All area of his care, his skills, his manner and his almost shy, boyish personality. I love him and truly believe that God has truly blessed this man with the skills to help others.
Very friendly, and seemed as excited as I was.I still am as happy with Dr. Wongsa and have found that other patients love him just as much as I do.He has a great office staff, especially Ruth.I have found nothing that I dislike about Dr. Wongsa or his staff, they seem to be genuinely concerned for me and my health. They do not have a really structured after care program as far as support groups etc. but are always available if I have a question.I heard about Dr. Wongs by word of mouth. I was told what a great surgeon he was, and am glad for that, because he truly is. He came by 2 to 3 times a day to see me during my hospital stay. Also, for those who will be staying at Cypress Fairbanks Hospital in Houston, it was for me the best hospital experience I have ever had.
July 30, 2001
I met with Dr. Wongsa and liked him right off. He was straight forward - didn't hold anything back. He basically went over things that I already knew and just confirmed a couple things for me. He did tell me that he wanted me to try and lose weight between now and surgery time. NOT TO GAIN!!! His office staff was so nice. Ruth and Dee were extermely friendly!. Made me drive from San Antonio so well worth it!!!
Dr. Wongsa did say that he didn't see any problems with the insurance company. I did ask,"What if I did get denied?" He flat out told me that we would fight it!! I definitely like this man!!!
I had originally picked Dr. Ramesh Srungaram for my surgery but I found out that he did not perform the Lap RNY which is what I wanted so.......back to research.
After some major research I have decided to look into Dr. Wongsa. I called his office on July 9th and received a consultation appointment for July 27th. Now I begin the wait. I have been doing my best to educate myself on info about the surgery so when I meet the surgeon I will know what questions to ask etc.
