My office visit was short but he allowed me to ask any questions. I felt very confident with him from the start. As far as the surgery I am a nurse and I would have not chose anyone but this Dr. He was awesome, truly skilled, very attentive in the hospital, I was out in two days. No complications and felt great. I had a roomate and she had same surgery, same day, and I felt sorry for her because her needs were not met by her docter and he didn't even come to see her until late night and was late answering nurses who paged him for issues with the patient. My docter was there and even came twice in one day and sat on the bed to talk to me. Hi is truly skilled and you can feel very safe, as a mother of three small children I would not have had it any other way.

Boy,I have to tell you that I am so happy that the NP at my doctor's office said she wouldn't recommend anyone but Dr. Wongsa. She had the surgery and he is the one she used. Thank you to Cheryl. Anyway, I met Dr. Wongsa and he is wonderful. He tells what he expects and what you can expect. I am not to keen on the idea of not having carbs and sweets for a long time. The office stuff is great even if the nurse couldn't make me 5' 4".

When i first met Dr. Wongsa i was very impressed with his mannerism and bed side manner. My impression hasn't changed too date any one who can elaborate to me how important my life is too them is the surgeon i want for me.He has done a tremendous job on hiring a office staff they are all so sweet and kind.Dee&Ruth both are darlings knowing how painfully annoying i have been calling and asking have you heard anything from the insurance company plus the other 300 something patients they have and i have yet to see them lose their cool. For Dr.Wongsa's future patients he doesnt play he tells you the real deal and if you dont like it go find a doogie howser to perform your surgery because he is strict.Dr. Wongsa is not affiliated with a aftercare program but he does emphasize it.

I won't get a chance to meet him until July 30th. But I am looking forward to this consultation.

Dr. Wongsa and staff are very nice people. He is direct and thorough. I feel very comfortable with him as my surgeon.

I am interested in an after care group that some of his patients have started.

9/28/01 - I visited Dr. Wongsa today for my consultation and I have to admit that the experience wasn't as wonderful as I had anticipated. It was a very long 2-hour wait for vitals that took about 5 minutes and talking with Wongsa took about 15 - 20 minutes. Also, Dr. Wongsa made a couple of comments that I certainly did not like nor did I think were funny. When he was done looking over my current weight and height he said to me, "God! You have like 200 pounds to lose! That's more than me! You have a whole person to lose!" As he said this to me, he was grinning as if he thought his comments were clever. I decided not to tell him how rude I believed him to be, but looking back now I wish I had. Before he made these comments and at the time I suppose he was deciding if I was a "good canidate" or not he asked me some really stupid questions and then told me that he wasn't hearing anything encouraging from me. What he was asking me about is if I ever continue eating after I was already satisfied and I told him that of course I do. I mean, doesn't everyone do that at one time or another?!?! I explained to him that I mainly do that when I'm dining out and I'm enjoying some really yummy enchiladas or something. THEN, when he asked me why I had gained so much in the last year, I told him that I had given birth to twins a little over a year ago. His reply was, "Women always use that as an excuse for gaining weight." I was annoyed by the fact that I had TO EXPLAIN TO A DOCTOR that it isn't the simple fact that a woman is pregnant that makes a woman gain weight and that most of the weight gained during and after pregnancy is caused by the life style changes that occur. I'm still wondering what kind of doctor doesn't know this?!?! (Poor Mrs. Wongsa!)
He kept stretching his neck to look over his desk at my belly during our entire conversation. It made me a bit uncomfortable and annoyed. He was even staring at my friend's belly that was just there to accompany me! Last, he had me lie down on his examining table and examined my belly and told me that my belly "is more wide than it is high." Gee, I feel special. I also don't understand why he wants me to try to lose weight before the surgery. I mean, what difference could a few miserable pounds honestly make? At the end, Wongsa must have decided I was a "good canidate" and sent me on my way with instructions for having an upper GI and a gall bladder ultrasound. Anyway, if you're not concerned with having it done laparoscopically like I am, then you needn't go to Wongsa. But obviously I am rating surgical competence as more important than bedside manner. I do believe he is a good surgeon no matter my impression of him personally and my experience with Dr. Wongsa is simply MY experience. Other's have had very good experiences with him. I, however, did not find him particularly pleasant.

I chose Dr. Wongsa due to his surgical skill. He performs the procedure with laproscopic instruments and has a high success rate.

Something that really impressed me about Dr. Wongsa was the fact that he canceled my surgery on the original surgery date due to to the fact that I had gained weight and he thought that my liver would be enlarged and would interfere with surgery. Many other surgeons would had gone ahead and collected the fee. I respect Dr. Wongsa for making that decision.

Dr. Wongsa is very nice and direct just like my friend said. He called my name and personally got me from the waiting room. He approached me with a sincere smile. My boyfriend and I went into his office and felt comfortable. He explained the procedure thoroughly and told me the pros and cons of my surgery. After he explained the procedure he gave my boyfriend and I plenty of time to ask questions. He was in no rush. His assistant Ruth as well as the rest of his staff are very friendly. I do wish, however, that he had some sort of structured aftercare program.

Dr. Wongsa was very nice and answered any questions I had.The office staff was also nice and answered any questions I had.He told me the risk of the surgery and the future outcome. He came to visit me twice a day while I was in the hospital and asked me if I had any questions. I would rate Dr. Wongsa a 10+. He is a wonderful doctor.

My first impression of Dr. Wongsa was that he was very knowledgeable in his profession and truly committed to making sure that i would be a successfull candiate for this surgery. Ruth was very helpful and very pleasant each time I spoke with her. Dr. Wongsa was very blunt and to the point, but it was good to have someone tell you this would not be the easiest thing i have done but would be the best thing i could do for my future. Dr. Wongsa does not have a structed aftercare, but does stress the importance of it. He did address the risks, especially for me as I have a very large abdomen and will require 7 laparoscopic incisions. I would give him a 10+ for his encouragement and hope that he has given me. I would have to say that both surgical competence and bedside manner are both very important to me. I went to several seminars with other doctors, Spivak and Srungaram and one herded his patients throught as if they were cattle and the other only gave one option for surgery through his office. I am very pleased with the surgeon i have chose, and feel confident from reading other postings regarding Dr. Wongsa.

WELL I WENT TO SEE DR. WONGSA YESTERDAY ON FRIDAY THE 7TH OF SEPTEMBER. HE'S OFFICE IS VERY NICE AND NEAT. HIS WIFE IS NEXT DOOR TO HIM (SHE IS A PEDIATRICIAN) SO THEY ARE BOTH IN THE MEDICAL FIELD AND ARE CLOSE. WHEN A PATIENT WAITS TO BE SEEN THEY USUALLY WAIT FOR A NURSE TO CALL THEM, TAKE THEM TO A ROOM AND WAIT FOR THE DOCTOR. WELL NOT THIS DOCTOR. DR. WONGSA COMES OUT AND CALLS YOU PERSONALLY TO HIS OFFICE. ONE BY ONE. NO WAITING ROOMS. HE TAKES YOU STRAIGHT BACK FOR YOU TO SPEAK OF YOUR PROBLEMS AND ASK FOR THE HELP OF WLS. HE IS A SKINNY MID-AGED ASIAN (IT SEEMED) DOCTOR WHO IS ALL AND WILLING TO DO WHAT HE CAN FOR YOU WITH THE SURGERY AS LONG AS THE INSURANCE APPROVES. HE SPOKE VERY STRONG ABOUT THE RISK OF THE SURGERY (LAP RNY) AND MADE SURE THAT I UNDERSTOOD THE COMPLICATIONS OF THE PROCEDURE AND WHAT WOULD, COULD HAPPEN TO ME IF I WERE NOT TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH MY DR. INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRE-OP AND POST-OP. DR. WONGSA HAS BEEN DOING THIS PROCEDURE FOR AWHILE AND IS COMPLETELY CONFIDENT IN WHAT HE DOES FOR US. BUT JUST REMEMBER THAT GOD IS JUST USING HIS HANDS AND GOING THROUGH HIM TO MAKE US BETTER PEOPLE. IT IS GOD'S WORK ... NOT THE DR. OVERALL ... DR. WONGSA IS A GOOD REFERRAL FOR THE USE OF OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND LORD JESUS CHRIST. I'LL UPDATE LATER AFTER I HAVE ANOTHER MEETING WITH HIM. THANX. JULIE.
