Dr. Jessee wasn't even on my radar until I received an email invite to attend one of her info sessions. As soon as I met Dr. Jessee and her team I knew she was the surgeon for me. She was/is so much more personable than the other bariatric surgeons I met. She understands obesity and its ramifications like obese people and not just like a surgeon. Every surgeon I met while investigating weight loss surgery was competent and well recommended. However, none of them instilled the confidence in me like Dr. Jessee did.rnrnBeing a self payer, cost was also an important consideration for me. I wasn't looking for the cheapest path but I did want to know how much this was going to cost me right up front. Dr. Jessee's team were the only ones that could spell out the cost for me in a simple and concise format. Other surgeon offices couldn't give me a straight answer. Some even had me calling all over the place (Hospitals, dieticians, psychologists, etc...) for itemized costs.rnrnTime was another factor for me. As a self payer I didn't have any insurance hassles or the need to follow a monitored diet for 3 or 6 months. Without compromising my care Dr. Jessee fast tracked me right through her program and I had surgery within 6 weeks of meeting her.rnrnAfter selecting Dr. Jessee as my surgeon I did run into some administrative issues up front. Dr. Jessee performs surgery in a handful of different locations. A couple of times I was given information specific to a facility different than to where I was having surgery. Although these issues were remedied immediately it did cause some confusion for me.rnrnOverall my experience with Dr. Jesse has been great. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anybody considering weight loss surgery.
WHEN I FIRST MET DR JESSEE I FELT GOOD ABOUT HER AND SAFE,HER OFFICE WAS COMFORTABLE,WITH SEATS LARGE ENOUGH TO HOLD LARGE SIZE PEOPLE,I LIKED EVERYTHING ABOUT HER.SHE WAS AND IS LIKE A FAMILY FRIEND TO ME. SHE SAVED MY LIFE.SHE LET ME KNOW RIGHT AWAY ABOUT THE RISKS AND THE AFTER CARE AND HAS A GREAT SUPPORT GROUP.EVERY MONTH.SHE EVEN HAS PICNICS, AND GOES OUT WITH HER PATIENTS TO CELEBRATE OUR NEW LIVES AND JOYS. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE. SHE IS THE MOST CARING DR I HAVE EVER KNOWN
Dr.Jessee is the BOMB!!!!!! she is soooo nice and friendly. She was very encouraging before my surgery and she even let me use her lip gloss for my very dry lips. I thought that was very nice of her. rnrnHer office staff is great, from the front desk to everyone in the back they are all very nice and she even had her friend Sue K come in to see me after the surgery and welcome me to the banster family! she know wants to go running with me... she looks great also. rnrnDr.Jessee has an 8 month old little girl and she looks really good for just having a baby! I said she looked to young to be a doctor. Oh yeah she smiles a whole lot. By the way the office staff was tooo bubbly for me right after my surgery, I was not in the mood. :-) rnrnthe after care, the called me to see how I was doing and to let me know what to do to get rid of the gas.... bommer. rnrnDr.Jessee does have an aftercare program I just have to get more information about it, they gave me all the information about it, the scheduled my surgery so fast I cant remember what I did with any of my paperwork. From the time I put in my request for surgery, I consulted with Dr. Jessee and had my surgery the next week. THE GIRL IS BAD! rnrnBOTH ARE GREAT
www.shedthepounds.comrnShe was the best thing that happened to me! I drive an hour to her office, it is worth every mile!rnShe is a doctor that truly cares about her patients, you are not just a number to her. She has outings, picnics, cruise and much more for her patients. She and her staff love to do things so that the patients can get together and have a good time.
I went to two of Dr. Jessee's seminars, and each time I felt that she was very honest. She was very clear about the pre-op process as well as what happens during surgery and what post-op life would be like. She does charge a $1000 fee, which is not covered by insurance. (I used my FSA to pay the fee.) I've heard some people grumble about that, but I really respect her reasons for requiring it. It pays for the psych eval and dietician visits, protein shakes and vitamin supplements, as well as a one year gym membership. Maybe some other stuff, too, but I can't remember. She even said in the seminar that you could get the psych eval and meet with a nutritionist elsewhere and have insurance pay, but how does she know what those docs' standards are? This way, she's ensuring that her patients get the treatment and information that she wants them to have.
The office staff was fabulous while I worked with them. Christie and Joyce were both very patient and totally cooperative, which is a lot more than I can say about the other docs that ended up being a part of my process. (Which was very long and took me five months to complete, but that had nothing to do with Dr. Jessee's office.)
I would have liked to have had more time with her during my office visits pre-operatively, but I guess that really doesn't happen much anymore, with so many patients. And somehow I missed the fact that there would be interns at the hospital for my post-op care. At one point there had to be a dozen people in my room! Still, my experience was good, and I had no complications. I am so glad that I chose Dr. Jessee. I felt very secure in her competency and qualifications, and really appreciated her frankness and honesty.
My first impression of Dr. Jessee was solid. I had been researching bypass surgery for almost three years and had attended four different seminars and corresponded via internet with surgeons in other states and even Mexico before deciding on her. I am now four days post-op and nothing I can say can relate the praise I have for her and her entire program. Everything was thoroughly explained and efficiently managed. Her bedside manner is very professional and compassionate. I feel very confident being in her care and look forward to the weeks ahead. I would recommend her to anyone.
I attended Dr. Jessee's seminar at Suncoast Hospital. My initial impression is all positive. She seems to really care about the health of her patients, their continued success, and their integration back into "normal" society. Her seminar was thorough and informative, and she and her staff patient, knowledgable, and very helpful. She strongly emphasizes aftercare, especially with the Lap-Band procedure, explaining that sometimes MANY follow-ups are required for as many adjustments necessary that she is happy to complete. I believe that she was very frank about the risks of not just the Lap-Band, but some of the other surgical options available currently. I was very pleased to hear her current mortality rate is ZERO. In explaining the risks, she did admit to some close calls with Roux-en-Y complications, and also stated that mortality is the nature of the business and although she has none today, that doesn't mean she won't have none next week or tomorrow. She was very open and honest in that regard, as she was throughout the seminar. She had patients speak with smooth courses, but also a patient who experienced a very, VERY difficult time with a leakage problem and spent much time fighting for his health. Like myself, though, he said he would do it all again if he had to. I thought it admirable she invited patients whose course wasn't "perfect."
Based on her seminar, I would rate her and her staff as a 10.
The only drawback is the mandatory "program fee" that I simply cannot afford. I was very disappointed to discover that toward the end of the seminar. I don't think it is unreasonable or unfair in any way, but it will make Dr. Jessee's services unobtainable to me. I have yet to hear of a surgeon employing such a thing, and will begin researching that aspect more tomorrow.
