I have yet to meet Dr. Miller, since I had my initial consultation with Dr. Growney (a new surgeon to the practice). Dr. Growney was great, but he doesn't do the lap yet. I'll be meeting Dr. Miller next so will post more then. Barbara Zink is GREAT and Chris Bauer has been a tremendous help.
5.08.02 Update...
Met Dr. Miller today. He seems confident and competent, and I like his statistics (not had any leaks so far!) I feel confident in his ability to bring me safely to the other side. He was patient and sat through my three pages of questions.
I have only met Dr. Smoot one time and it was a consultation for a breast lump but I spent most of the appointment asking him about Weight Loss Surgery. I have considered this off and on for years. Meeting Dr.Smoot reaffirmed for me that this is the right thing to do. I have a consultation with him scheduled for May 17, 2002 and it seems like forever away. I could probrably see someone sooner if i'd choose one of the other surgeons in his practice. I'm sure they are wonderful but I have heard so much good about Dr. Smoot he is the one I want for my surgery. I'm not thrilled at the thought of Nanticoke Hospital though. Wish Dr. Smoot was with BeBee hospital.
4/20/2002 I met with Dr. Samuel Miller yesterday and the team at Changing Lives Bariatric Services. Dr. Miller is a partner of Dr. Smoots. I was very impressed by how there program is set up. It was quite well put together and you get the feeling that they really care. Dr. Miller said they would put a filter in my vein for prevention of a pulmonary embolism as my mother had problems with deep vein thrombosis when she was younger and this can be genetic. I'm glad to be having the extra security measure taken. They will work on my insurance approval and I will have blood work and a sleep study done. Then they will schedule me for open rny. Dr. Miller said that I was a candidate for laproscopic but i chickened out on that. He did say that open was safer and i want all the safety precautions I can get with this. I am tempted though to call him back and say I would like the lap procedure done. Any opinions on this please email me.
First impression was very good. I like they sit down and talk to you like a human being not just a 5 mintute ok bye see ya.
The office staff is the best-Always there when you need them and have alot of information for you and your family.
Aftercare is the most important part of their program. For this to work you have to have aftercare.
All risk where given at first interview with the doctor and they where very honest.
Overall Rate of the doctor and staff "10"
I can only say that I Love Dr. Miller,He is such a wonderful person. He takes time to answer all your questions, and gives you alot of information. He is so kind,My surgery date is April 8,2002,And I am putting all my faith in God & Dr. Miller. As for the staff they are all wonderful people,I am so very glad that I found thier office. We will be seeing alot of each other since they belive so strongly in after care and thats wonderful.I can't say enough good things about Dr. Miller and his staff,They are a wonderful bunch of people.
I have now met with the doctor and the entire staff at "Changing Lives through Bariatric Surgery" in Seaford, De and they are all phenomonal. I have never met a more thorough group of people! My surgery date is scheduled for March 11 and I couldn't feel more comfortable and confident going in. They have prepared me with so much education and post-op advice/instructions. I recommend this practice to everyone having WLS.
I can only tell you that when i originally went to Seaford it was to meet with Dr.Smoot because I did not know he had any associates.
But,I met with a Dr. Miller instead because Dr. Smoot was out of town.
I am very, very pleased with Dr. Miller, I love this man, he gave me my life back!!
He is a very knowledgable, intelligent, compasionate, caring Doctor. I would highly reccomend him to anyone.
I am very fortunate to have him as my Doctor. I have heard that Dr. Smooot is also wonderful. So, I say to anyone, you choose the best Docs and the best Hospital when you choose Seaford!!( Small town caring and personal service!!)
All of the aspects of the surgery were explained to me in detail. All of my questions were answered promply and professionally. The Post-op care is excellent as well as monthly support meetings in several locations.
The staff is also very caring and compasionate as well as the Docs.
Dr. Miller seems to be a very caring surgeon, answered all questions - then some. Explained everything to a tee! Told me about the % of complications and risks. They do this to make sure you understand, that this is major surgery - and you need to be prepared. The staff is great Barbara Zink is an "angel" to everyone - what doesn't this lady do!
Overall, Dr. Miller seems to be a very understanding, knowledgeable physician. I felt very comfortable and at ease during my first and second consultation's. The bariatric team strongly emphasize's aftercare, exercise and food control. Dr.Miller and his well educated very nice staff have addressed the risks and benefits of the surgery thoroughly. The monthly meetings they provide are very helpfull.
