My first impression of Dr O was that he was a very busy man but he cared about his patients. At our first group meeting I was able to tell he has a wonderful sense of humor and is very experienced. His complication and morbidity rate is half that of the national average. His staff is very busy but helpful and friendly. He does mostly open RNY but his incision is only 4 inches. He is very big on aftercare. He explained all the risks and benefits of surgery. I would recommend him highly. Although I am happy that he has a great bedside manner, I believe his surgical competence is the most important thing.
I thought my surgeon and his entire staff were great. Dr. O'Connell spoke with my husband and I at length about the surgery. You really felt like he cared about you as a person.
Dr. O'Connell puts a great deal of emphasis on aftercare and the best thing of all is he and his staff travel to Lafayette, La every month to see patients that live closer to Lafayette than to New Orleans. This makes it very convenient for me. I thougt he was a great Dr. I would recommend to anyone. He did something for me that has helped to change my life for the better.
He is a very nice man. He has had years of experience and his death rate is a third of the national average. He answered all of my questions and made me feel very confident in his abilities. The only thing that bugged me a little bit was that me seemed very busy and made me feel a little bit rushed.
My first visit with Dr. O'Connell was very impressive, he was well spoken , very informative.and all around, made me feel comfortable and at ease in my adventure in seeking out information and solution to my problems with obiesity. All my conserns were answered by either him or by one of the associates at the office. I have since then, have several times the need to call the office, while awaiting word on ins. approval, and am always greeted wiwth warmth and sincerity. I highly recomend his program to others in need of this surgery. Dr. O'Connell is head of the "RENEW" program in New Orleans LA at Methodist hospital. There are free inforamtion sessions for those planning or just wanting info. Also there is a great post-op support group. Once again, my wife is a nurse and I took her with me to see Dr O"connel, she was fully prepaired with all sorts of questions, she left the office that day with all answered and felt completly comfortable in my decision.
My first impression of Dr. O'Connell was this was a busy man but gave me all the time I needed to ask and recieve answers. Even on follow up visits he gives you his undivided attention. The staff is wonderful and have in place a great follow up plan. I really enjoy the monthly meetings. I could not have been more satisfied with these professionals.
my first impression was that he was very knowledgable about the gastric bypass surgery. He has a great sense of humor also.
My impression never changed.
His office staff was friendly but very rushed. Its a very busy office.
There wasnt anything that i didnt like about him.
He is very thorough.
He is VERY big on aftercare.
Yes
He addressed them all including the risk of death.
I think he is an excellent doctor.
BOTH WERE EXCELLENT!
I have not personally met with Dr. O'Connell yet. I have met with the nurse manager and I have spoke with the doctor on the phone once. The nurse manager is just as qualified as Dr. O'Connell is to ask me the questions for the first consultation. When I spoke with Dr. O'Connell on the phone he was very warm and friendly. His office staff are really great. Sometimes it seemed like I was bugging them but that was what they are there to do is answer my questions. He emphasizes aftercare very much. You have to pay $200 before surgery and you gradually get that money back as you follow up with him. I am not so sure about how structured his aftercare program is because I have not gone through it yet but from what I have heard it is pretty good. The nurse manager addressed the risks of surgery many times and made sure I knew what they were. I would recommend Dr. O'Connell to anyone so far. I will let you know more as I learn more.
