Robert Marema Bariatric Surgeon

I called Dr. Marema's office in Ft. Lauderdale, and I decided to go to the Orientation meeting they require. It was a 4 1/2 hour drive, but well worth it! Everybody was so helpful!

Dr. Marema actually was there to give the entire presentation, which I really liked. He went over all the pros and cons and took the time to answer many questions from the group. He seemed very personable and very knowledgable, and has had the surgery himself as well as many of his office staff. I have heard so many good things about him, and have definitely decided to go with him as my surgeon.

I have to attend a 3 hour class on the 24th, a psych. evaluation on the 20th, and get the actual surgery approval before I can set an appt. to meet with him.

Because I live so far away, I would liked to have seen them be able to "coordinate" appts. a little better, so I could accomplish more than just one thing each time I have to take a day off of work and drive down there.(which is what i have am having to do now) Kinda frustrating, but I liked everything else about him, and am sure I made the right choice.

Attended his initial seminar 6/19 and thought he and staff were extremely professional (a little long and repeated alot of information already available if you've done your research but it is one of his requirements). I would highly recommend him. He has a wonderful after-care program and seems to address all areas of ones well being (pre-op and post-op). He was extremely careful to explain many risks and complications of both the surgery and obesity. Be prepared with general questions only because he cannot answer specific questions. He is concered with each patient's medical history and their own primary concerns. I was a little dispointed that we were not given more information about what needs to be done to satisfy requirements by our insurance company and had to follow-up with his office to obtain some information that we were told was in his initial binder.

Dr. Marema and his staff our the best. They care about their patients. It's not about getting your money. They care about "you". You can call them with any problems that you have and they are not mean or nasty with you. The staff is very helpful and courteous. I recommend them HIGHLY!!!!!!!!

I had a positive impression from afar as I have only seen him twice in group settings. I look forward to our first consultation after insurace hump number one is crossed.

He is a great guy, compassionate because both he,his wife and all of his office staff have undergone the surgery themselves. They are a team and all seem to care about my success.
They have a structured after care program every month.
So far, they have been really patient with all of my phone calls and questions.
I love my doctor and would highly recommend him. I have noticed that all of his patients feel the same way I do. He's wonderful and has a terrific sense of humor.
I have never had such a personal and caring relationship with any other doctor.
I can't think of anything negative to say about Dr. Marema and his staff, or the way they take care of their patients. I can only thank them.

Well I met Dr Marema on 11/8/99 at his workshop he is wonderful. My first impression was that he has fought a battle that I am fighting now morbidly obesity. I hope to have the surgery so I can put all that behind me...I am tired of fighting.
Dr. Marema seems as if he is happy with his results from his surgery and I want to be in that same position. His staff is very nice and eager to answer any question you have.
Go to the workshops at Holy Cross every Monday night at the Sister Innocent Center.
You will see how caring and great this group of people are.I booked my consult appointment and will keep you posted .........
2 months post op Dr Marema is still wonderful and he is always there to answer questions no matter what.
He is soooooooo funny and there should be more doctors like him.

I am very impressed with Dr.Marema. Especially since has had the surgery himself.
He seems to really understand what we are going through since he went through it himself. His staff seems nice also since most of them have had the surgery also. The only problem is due to the influx of patients; it's a very slow process. I went to the first orientation meeting then it took a month to go to his required education seminar. I was approved a few weeks after that (11 days ago) and am still waiting for his staff to set the date, which is sounding like mid to late August. I certainly would like to have it earlier, but we will see.

My first impression of Dr. Marema, was that he was very honest with me....My impression of him has not changed much over the year, since my surgery. He is a passionate person.His office staff is wonderful. I can't think of anything negitive to say about him or the staff...He tells it like it is... He has a very good support group, except that it is only in the evenings now and I work evenings, so I haven't been to one in awhile... I get the news letter, so I can stay up on what is happening...He is very big on after care, and you know that it is all up to you, and how much you work at it..But, you will get all the support and help you need, if you just ask....Yes, he did let me know all the risks for the surgery. For me it was either have the surgery or die in a few short years. He worked very closely with my Cardilogist. Dr. Marema is great all the way around, and my heart Dr. is great too, Dr. Flores. He has helped me through all this too.

I only regret that I did not know about any of this sooner in my life.... Even though I had worked in a hospital, for almost twenty years.....

6/12/2000 I had my first meeting with Dr.Marema he really seems like a caring person who has been down the same road as we have as well as most of his staff I was weighed in tonight 321.6 lbs and given a binder full of forms that must be filled out by my Primary care physician, I came away feeling confident that I am making the right decision as far as the surgery & the surgeon
