My first impression was at their seminar in Morristown Memorial. He seemed very professional and got right to the point of what happens with the surgery when the questions were asked by the audience. As the conversations went on, and spoke with him afterwards, I felt very comfortable. I've also spoken to some of his patitents and they all say the same that he's really good and is supportive. I plan on making my consultation with him very shortly. I have to get the three other tests done first which I am scheduling now. Hope not to have to wait too long before the consult!

My first impression of Dr. Bertha was great. He seemed to be to be very much in demand. I was finally able to see him after two appointments were canceled. I made sure to remind him that this was my third appointment. He joked and said it wasn't personal. I did have to wait a significant amount of time before I was actually seen for my appointment. He did apologize for the wait, though. His office staff were very busy. He could probably use at least one more person working there. Overall, they all seemed very pleasant!--written post-op.--Dr. Bertha is wonderful! He is straight forward and to the point. He addressed any questions I had. He is gentle and did I say CUTE!

Dr. Bertha is awesome! I'm so glad that I chose him as my surgeon. He did an awesome job on my surgery and I am very pleased with my results. He's very sweet and caring and actually listens to you when you speak. How did I chose him from all the rest that I had seen at the seminar? Well... that's easy. He was the cutest one! He's definately an adorable little guy, especially when he's in his scrubs! hehe

8/10/03 My surgery got pushed up two weeks to 8/12 and Dr Bertha will now be doing my surgery, which is fine as I liked him very much when I met him at the seminar.

I was originally schedueled with Dr. Abkin.

I met with him in mid-April. I had all my paperwork and testing done including a letter from my primary. Dr Abkin is very personable and put my husband and I at ease immediately. We went over the pre-op check list (it's in the packet they give you when you attend the seminar) and the only concern he had was that I see someone for counselling due to my being treated for depression. I had already set that up so that was no problem. He gave me a quick belly exam and we discussed a few questions I had and that was it. He told me to call the next day for my surgery date.

I called the next day, had to leave a message but they called me back and gave me an August 25th surgery date.

I think the key thing to making this process smooth is to make sure you have all your testing done, all your forms filled out, and educate yourself.

Like other people have said you may have to wait a few days for a return phone call from the officestaff. The office is SO busy! But everyone is very pleasant.

Dr. Bertha is an excellent surgeon. I put my life in his capable hands, and he didn't let me down. If I had the whole experience to do over again, I would choose Dr. Bertha again in a heartbeat.

Dr. Bertha used to have a very structured aftercare program. I do not know if that is still the case since the Obesity Clinic at MMH closed its doors in the fall of 2002.

I have no real experience with his office staff because when I had surgery, I had to go through the Morristown Memorial Hospital Obesity Clinic (now closed), not his office, so I never had to deal with his staff directly.

His billing office is terrible. They are still billing me money which, due to contractual obligations with BC/BS (he is an in-network provider and so he should accept their payment as payment in full) I should not be paying. I have contacted his billing office several times by mail and by phone, and I keep getting a $27,000 bill, of which I only owe him $260.00. This is not directly Dr. Bertha's fault, but look over your bill carefully because mistakes do happen.

My consultation with Dr. Bertha was April 24, it was supposed to be at 10am, but I didn't end up seeing him until after 1:00! The office was packed...I seriously suggest bringing some kind of reading material if you are going to his office. When I finally met with him, he asked me several questions, felt around my stomach, asked me if I had any questions, and sent me to Josephine to schedule a date. I was in the exam room for about 15 minutes. My impression of him is that he is a very knowledgeable, very busy man. He took time to answer any questions that I had, but it was obvious that there were a lot of other patients waiting for their consultation. The majority of his office staff seem very nice, and helpful, although I have to admit when I left my consultation I was confused as to what happens next. Josephine had explained to me that I would have a meeting with the NP about 3 weeks prior to my surgery, and at this time I would receive my insurance pre cert. I wasn't told when my insurance would be submitted, so I called the office and was told that the paperwork would be sent about 1 month before surgery! That made me nervous...I wish someone would have mentioned that to me during the consultation, it would have helped to calmed my nerves.

My first impression was Dr. Bertha looked like Tom Cruise. My impression over time was that he expects you to take this surgery very seriously, which you should. Office staff was pleasant and helpful. As far as aftercare, I have my own support group of 5 friends that have been through it already. I have a booklet that I can refer to if I have any questions or I could always call the office.

I met Dr. Nicholas Bertha at one of the first meetings at Morrristown hospitals and had many recommendations from health professionals to see Dr. Bertha. I can not express how great of a surgeon and person . From the moment I met Dr. Bertha I knew he was the surgeon of my chioce.

I went in on a Tuesday for surgery and I went home that Thursday, and the following Thursday I was already back to work. I had a great recovery and I have already lost 18 pounds in 2 weeks.

Dr. Bertha made sure I was aware of every step and visied me each step, even before the OR and had the best bedside manner.

I highly highly recommend Dr. Bertha...

My first impression of Dr. Bertha was that he is handsome and young. He took his time talking to me and examined me and was very honest about what to expect from surgery. The office staff was very friendly, kind, and helpful. I was in and out of the office in a little over an hour.

I finished all my preliminary requirements and then I saw Dr Bertha, waited along time in the waiting room about two hours but it was worth the wait. My first impression of Dr Bertha was that he was alot younger than I thought he would be. His office staff seemed to have things in order, but the wait time was a little long.
Dr Bertha gave me a thorough exam and said I was a perfect candidate for laparoscopic surgery. I felt he answered all my questions and even asked me to ask alot of questions while waiting for surgery.
I was a little disappointed to find out I could not schedule surgery that day due to Josephine being out, but she returned my call a couple days later and gave me my date (July 22)cant wait!!
