I thought he was a very confident surgeon , who made me feel very comfortable.

My impression never changed.

The staff is another story , They had staff changes thru the course of my pre-op and I found out my original date was never scheduled. The one person that was very helpful her name was Maria , She fixed everything , and was very helpful and informative.

I liked everything about him , his visits were always short. but he was always nice.

That he is a very good surgeon , and makes you feel comfortable.

He emphasizes alot about healthcare on what to do and not to do.

Yes , I got a packet of everything to do before and after the surgery.

He was very straightforward with all the bad things that could happen.

I would say that he was great doctor

I think both is very important

My first impression of Dr. Bertha, to be honest, was that he was a bit arrogant and that things will be done his way or the highway. This kinda threw me back, as all I had heard about him was just the opposite. I chalked it up to him maybe having a bad day. He was very knowledgable about the surgery and had an air of confidance about his abbilities to perform in the O.R. (My husband thought he was fine.)

Yes, over time my impression has changed towards Dr. Bertha. I've met him 2 other times now and both times he was very nice and easy to talk to. He has set my mind at ease about the surgery..."everything will be fine Pam."

Since he no longer deals with the Obestity Clinic Center in Morristown Mem. Hospital you have to go through his office in Florham Park now. Let me tell ya, at this point they could be WAY better in the front office!!! Maria (who does all the insurance submitting, etc..) is wonderful though and very good at what she does.

Aftercare is a MUST as far as Dr. Bertha is concerned. At the last visit before my surgery I was given a list of office visits in the next 2 yrs. that I must go to his office for. "I" know how important aftercare is....anyone even contemplating this surgery had better know it!

Dr. Bertha addressed the risks of the surgery head on in a no fuss no muss attitude.

In my opinion surgical competence is first..then bedside manner.

I think Dr. Bertha is great. He performs 80% of the surgeries in the Morris County, NJ area. He is calm, caring and listens carefully to your concerns. All the risks of surgery were gone over thoroughly with me as you are required to attend a presentation meeting, psychiatric evaluation and post-op nutritional counseling.

I've had two meetings with Dr. Bertha. Everything that has been said about him on this board is correct. He is very compassionate and capable. He answers all the questions you have.

My only complaint is that his staff, especially Joann Gallowe, appears to be constantly trying to keep up. It took a lot of effort on my part to make sure that we got approval for my surgery in time for the actual date. It would definitely help if Joann had an assistant.

Dr. Bertha and the Obesity Center at Morristown have an excellent program laid out. I completely understand everything going into the surgery and they have monthly support meetings for aftercare. Overall, I think I made the best selection possible for me.

5/9/02 - I had the surgery on Monday. Dr. Bertha was everything I had hoped for and even more. I was in and out of the operating room in 90 minutes. He said my case was textbook perfect. I've had no complications and am excited about my future with my pouch. I couldn't recommend anyone stronger than I could him.

My first impression of Dr.Bertha was that of a very warm and caring man. He went over every aspect of the surg. My husband and I are very knowledgeable about the surg after many months of researching. Dr.Bertha has strict rules of aftercare and attending support groups. His office staff is one of the most efficent that I seen. His nurse was funny and made you feel at ease. His office manager Joanne is so on top of things. They told me I could call with any questions no matter if I think they are foolish or not. The Dr. told us of the risks of surg. But seing that he has done over 450 of them and a wonderful turn out what more could I ask for. I rate Dr. Bertha a 10, his office staff 10. Knowing that you can call any time and ask them questions and they are really there for you makes me feel really taken care of. I think surgical competence is the most important of course and Dr. Bertha is a top notch surgeon with great results and looks like he will have a great bedside manner of I wouldnt have gone with him!!!!!

I am in the medical field and Dr. Bertha was highly recommended by other doctors. I found him to be personable, highly skilled, friendly and knowledgeable. I have not ever seen him in his office yet, because I go to the obesity center at Morristown Hospital, and all of my appointments so far have been there. The office staff there is great. Always helpful. There is definitely a structured aftercare program and an excellent support group. The risks of surgery were definitely addressed. I would definitely recommend Dr. Bertha to others. I felt very well cared for throughout the surgery and afterwards. I had one incision that did not heal well, and Dr. Bertha explained it to me and showed me how to care for it. Also, at the obesity center, I was given a handout on wound care that helped. At four weeks, I had stomach flu (rampant in this area this year), and could not keep anything much down for four days. I was feeling weak and dizzy, and called in to the obesity center. They told me that I had to go to the ER and they would let Dr. Bertha know. Shortly after I arrived, he showed up. He looked at all the test results and decided that I was extremely dehydrated. He prescribed two IV bags of saline solution. It took a few hours and then I went home. I was certainly glad to see him in the ER.

The first time I met Dr Bertha I thought he was very young. He was very considerate and caring. He practiced at Morristown Memorial Hospital's Obesity Center. The staff was excellant and patient. There is an after care support program that meets every second Tuesday of the month. The meeting is a must for anyone even contemplating surgery. Everything from all the risks of and problems that might come up after surgery. After the meeting I had all the answers I needed to make my decision to have the operation..I rate the Obesity Center and the staff a 10..the answer to your last question surgical competence etc, both are great.

Dr. Bertha is a very compentent surgeon. Willing to ans all questions. I remain very impressed with him. His office staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.
There is a structured after care program, which is given to you after your first visit to see him. This way you can study what to expect from day one.

Dr. Bertha was vey open and up front about the risks of surgery, something that both my husband & I wanted.

He is an excellent surgeon. Competent with a good bed side manner.
