I finally got to meet all the people I had been hearing great things about, and they are all true. Laurie Spaulding is very down to earth, and kind, and you can tell she really cares and wants this to be successful. Ginny was all business, and didn't come across as kind and caring, but I didn't get any negative feelings about her. The dietician, Jill Sullivan and the psychologist Elena Ramirez were also down to earth, kind and ready to discuss the procedure and answer any questions. I am very excited about the aftercare, and the services/support that is available. The only complaint is the wait.....it took 6 months for the consult, I have another appointment in a month, and I think the surgery may happen about 9 - 10 months after that....UGH! I want it tomorrow, of course....but I hear good things come to those who wait. So far so good with this team!

The staff at Laurie's office is extremely knowledgeable and supportive. When I first went, I was quickly put at ease by each person I met. You are expected to do what they say, however, in regards to attending suport groups, practicing wtih making eating diaries, keeping appointments, etc! This is all for the patient's own good however. They know what they are doing and know what works! My only complaint is the wait for first appointment and for surgery. This process has been over a year for me and that has been frustrating. I keep telling myself it is because this surgeon and staff is good and in Vermont, we don't have many choices.

Dr. Laurie Spaulding is a very down-to-earth professional. Her staff is well-trained and helpful in putting people at ease and in thoroughly disseminating information throughout the process. If you are considering this procedure, contact her office as soon as possible because the screening process can take time and due to the thoroughness of the process you will probably be a little frustrated.

But I have been impressed with the commitment of Dr. Spaulding and Staff in ensuring that all information needed about potential candidates and about the surgery itself is essential for success.

Dr. Spaulding is well-trained, takes time to answer questions and to repeat information until it is clear to her patients. Her staff are also well-trained and the team spirit makes a very positive impact on such a life altering experience.

I first met with Dr. Spaulding in March of this year (2001). She seems like a real nice Lady, like someone who is down to earth and understands what problems I am experiencing due to morbid obesity. I have heard nothing but praise about her and the team she works with, so I am confident I will get the best care possible. I have been denied by medicaid and have to call Ginny tomorrow, I hope everything works out!

I just wanted to say that my experience with Dr. Spaulding has been GREAT but I do not like dealing with Ginny anymore. I wish there was someone else there in the office I could call and speak with when I have to call there.

I felt that she was a very caring and understanding person. So far my impression has not changed. They are as wonderful as Dr. Spaulding is. There is nothing I dislike about her. To call and schedule as soon as poss. as she is very, very busy. She emphasizes aftercare as being as important as having the surgery. Yes, I am very impressed with the aftercare program. She covered everything in detail, I already knew the major risks with having surgery as I am a nurse. I would rate her as a very skilled and respected surgeron. I feel that booth are needed for a patients trust, how they do during their surgery and through their post-op course.

If you're considering having this surgery, get in touch with her office ASAP!!! The waiting list is long!!! I contacted the office for the first time on 5/3/00 and didn't have my first consult until 10/00!!! Once you are scheduled for surgery, get ready to wait some more! Your surgery will probably be about five months after your consult. Dr. Spaulding is really easy to talk to, and is very interested in answering all your questions, she wants to make sure you know what you're getting into! They have a really great support group meeting that is held once a month...if you're pre-op you should definately come, it was a great help to me to be able to talk to people who understood what I was going thru. Dr. Spaulding's follow up after surgery is great, you see her once a months for the first few months, it really makes you feel like you're being supported.

Absolutely wonderful Excellent bedside manner and very caring. She is the best at what she does and I highly recommend her to anyone who needs surgery.

I am now 7 years post op and feel like Dr. Spaulding and her whole team is still right there for me.
Ginny, Priscilla and the rest of the crew are still the best. When I back slid for 2 years they stayed
right there with me, I started having followups every 6 months and got back on the ball. With Dr. Spauldings
encouragement, I knew I could learn to use the tool of WLS the way it was meant to be.
Her follow up is emphasized and for long term success is an absolute necessity.
I now see her and the entire team once a year and go to the monthly support meetings.

Overall I would rate Dr. Spaulding as tops in all the surgeries she does. She had done 2 hernia repairs for me
as well as the RNY.

She is worth the wait....

Dr. Spaulding and her staff are very knowledgeable, understanding, caring and compassionate. Dr. Spaulding let me know that my being overweight was not from laziness or other thoughts that I had streaming through my head but that it was a disease. She explained how this was not a quick fix, but a tool to assist you in your weight control. She informed me that I could abuse it. She also let me know right up front the risks of this surgery. I feel very blessed to have Dr. Spaulding operating on me. I would recommend her to anyone looking to have this surgery.

She firmly believes in attending support groups and totally stressed the importance of follow-up after surgery.

Update 3-21-01 I had my check up yesterday, and I wanted to add that I feel that Dr. Spaulding has a true genuine concern for each one of her patients, which made me feel REALLY SPECIAL. I feel as if I have finally found a doctor who not only understands my weight problems, but also cares!!
