Dr. Spaulding is about the nicest person I have ever met. She is so very kind and understanding and really cares about me. Her and her staff have helped me out a great deal. No question is a dumb question. I would recommend her to anyone. The only problem is getting appointments. She is so very busy and so it takes a long time for your first appointment and for your surgery date...but I understand why too! She is the only surgeon in this area. The other thing I would say is that they do need to give more details on what to eat after your surgery, alittle more information would be helpful and to alert people about different web sites that are available to us to help us out. My first post-op appointment was just last week and I found it to be very helpful. A few days afterwards I ended up with some problems and she kept in touch with me by phone on a daily basics for a few days to make sure I was eating, etc. Not many doctors would do that today. Her and her staff explained everything about the surgery beforehand. She requies you to attend group sessions before you can have surgery which was very helpful because you could ask questions and meet other people who were going to have the surgery. I rate her and her staff A+. Her surgical competence and bedside matter were the greatest...couldn't be any better!
When I first saw Dr. Laurie Spaulding I saw a woman that cared about my needs. Her Office Staff is a great bunch of people that really take care of the patiences. She takes aftercare very serious. I took two support classes and they were talking about how to drink water and take little bites after the operation. I would rate Dr. Laurie Spaulding a 10. 10 being best.
My first impression of Dr. Spaulding was that she is kind and very confident. She put me very much at ease.
My first impression really hasn't changed much. She's very caring and confident in what she is doing.
The office staff are really sweet people very helpful, not at all condescending.
At this point in time I haven't really experienced anything to dislike or to "like least" about the doctor. I was disapointed about the long wait to have the surgery. I expected maybe 4 or 5 months but my date was sent exactly one year from my first visit.
I would say that future patients should expect a very thorough visit. She does'nt pull any punches.
Dr. Spaulding strongly emphasizes aftercare. She sends you home with homework You have to pretend that you have already had the surgery and do a three day diet plan for after surgery. You bring it in with you on your second visit they look at it to make sure you understand what it is you are suppose to do. You also have to take a quiz to see that you understand about the surgery, and about the importance of the aftercare for years to come.
She lets you know that you will be scheduled for a series of appointments at different time intervals after surgery until your at one or two a year for the rest of your life.
She was very thorough in explaining the risks of surgery.
At this point I believe Dr. Spaulding to be a very competent doctor.
Both Dr. Spaulding's surgical competence and bedside manner seem to be great.
I chose Dr. Spaulding because she had a reputation as the best throughout the state. I could have selected a different surgeon and had my surgery sooner, but she was so well recommended that I chose to wait. Dr.Spaulding has a "team" and you need to see the whole team, which includes the nutritionist, psychologists and coordinator. Everyone was truly wonderful. I had attended my 2 required pre-op meetings a few months before my scheduled surgery, so when an earlier surgery date became available, they offered to me and I accepted. Dr. Spaulding told me that the surgery would be less painful than a previous lower abdominal surgery I had and she was true to her word. She also told me my adema would be the first thing to go away, and it too was true. I only hope that every gastric bypass patient can have a sugrical experience that is a positive as mine was. I'm glad I waited for a highly recommended surgeon instead of taking someone else just so I could have it done sooner.
I really like Dr. Spaulding and her staff.
Although in my initial consultation I felt at first that I would not be going through surgery but as time went on and spoke to the other staff. It was more clear to me and the assurance that I will get the surgery. Right now I just can't wait for the surgery I realize she is very busy and that it will just take time to get to that surgery date. I just don't want to be in such pain for the next 11 months. I have major back pain.
I liked Dr. Spaulding from the start, however I was a little concerned that I did not have a physical exam with her at all prior to the surgery. I guess she figured my PCP had take care of all of that, she did have all records after all. At first I was told that I would not qualify, not heavy enough, but I was tested for sleep apnea, which was confirmed. I got accepted last November and just had my surgery July 10, 2002. They have a very strict protocal about who will be accepted. They have a structured aftercare program. I was fully informed of all the possible risks. I have been impressed with Dr. Spaudling and all of her staff.
