Dr. Verdeja was referred to me by a friend who also had the surgery, and I cannot thank her enough. I interviewed with about 3 other surgeons and I always felt like I had visited a 'fat farm' or factory. Dr. Verdeja on the other hand, took the time to 'detail' the procedure for me and re-assure me that it was a safe and proper step. Although he did mention that he puts his hands but we are need to put our minds into this. We spoke for about 2 hours, and not many doctors take the time, needless to say when I walked out of there I felt like a new woman. His staff is wonderful, he's got a scheduling coordinator that does all the work for you, with insurance and dates and so forth.
The surgery was a 'breeze', it took about 3-1/2 hours, and he was very attentive of me throughout my stay at the hospital.
A week later I went to visit him, as per his request, and gave me some eating instructions for my second week, and scheduled my next visit for the end of the month, which is 4 weeks post op. He's wonderful, don't hesitate to at least go talk to him. See www.miamihopecenter.com
I think Dr. Verdeja is one of the kindest individuals that I have yet to meet in my life. I feel that he genuinely cares about his patients and really want swhat is going to be best for you in the long run. All surgeons should make their patients as comfortable and secure as Dr. Verdeja has done for me.
The office staff at Dr. Verdeja's office has been wonderful to date.
Dr. verdeja indicates that probably one of the most important parts of this procedure is the follow-up. He has created a support group for his patients and strongly recommends that all patients attend.
The doctor was very up front about all of the details as well as the risks involved with the procedure.
Dr. Verdeja's competence is outstanding as well as his bedside manner.
I found Dr. Verdeja to be very friendly and very informative. I liked that he explained the entire procedure to me and answered all my questions without rushing me. I even called the office with other questions that came up after my initial visit and he called me back to answer all of them. I thought that was very professional and courteous of him. Despite a "glitch" I had with his office staff sending in my package for approval without it being complete, causing me to be denied and going through the appeals process, everything has turned out ok. I am confident I have a very good, skilled and caring surgeon.
Dr. Verdeja was really compassionate and full of information. He took the time to illustrate on the board exactly what the RNY procedure is. He explained the riks and benefits of the surgery. He also offered to give the names of patients who have had the surgery. I really like him I hope my opinion doesn't change. I would rate him at this time a 10.
1) First impression - very nice & thorough.
2) I came to respect him more & more as time went on.
3) Office staff - excellent.
4) What I like least - I wish there were two of him b/c he's so busy. Sometimes I can't speak with him as quickly as I would like.
5) Future patients - He's a great surgeon.
6) Aftercare could use a little more structure.
7) He goes over every detail of the surgery. The consultation is 45 minutes.
8) Overall - I think he's the very best.
9) Dr. Verdeja's bedside manner is THE BEST!! Besides that he's a great, competent surgeon.
Dr. Verdeja is a nice young physician (around 40 years old). Although I waited for a couple of hours to get into an exam room, once he came in he answered all of my questions and explained the procedure thoroughly . His office staff was courteous, His insurance and surgery scheduler is great. He explained to me and my husband that I would be "his" for the next 5 years. I had to promise to keep up with the check-ups since that is a very important part of the post-op. He said he would give me my diet as I came along after surgery. First fluids, then strained foods, mashed foods, etc. He would want me to take two sugar free Flinstone Vitamins a day for the rest of my life. He would check my Vitamin b-12 about 6 weeks after surgery and I think he said he'd check my iron about 4 weeks post-op. He is in good standing with the AMA, ABSA (we did our homework). He does endoscopic surgery, but prefers the "open". I have 3 abdominal surgeries, so I guess it would be
easier for everyone. I like him very much. Feel safe with him. He has performed many of these procedures in the past and is well versed in the RNY. He is gentle and mild mannered. I know you would like him too.
I was totally in awe of such a wonderful caring doctor.
I have only benn continually amazed with his knowledge and advice of the procedure and post op help.
The office staff was very professional and helpful with all my questions.
You could not ask for a better surgeon. Very well informed and experienced doctor.
Strongly recommends aftercare and calling the office for questions.
Yes.
All risks were addressed and evaluated fully prior to surgery. Surgical competence and bedside manner are beyond your expectations. Overall, I would rate him a professional, competant and caring surgeon.
