My first impression of Dr. de la Garza was that he is a nice guy, easy to talk to. He made me feel at ease about the surgery, and was very informative. Over time my impression only improved, and I was even more comfortable with him, he has great bedside manners. He emphasizes aftercare very much in order for the band to stay in place, and for me to become healthy. The surgery involves a very structured aftercare program which is explained in the manual they gave me. Future patients should know that Dr. de la Garza is very easy to talk to and understand. He is there to help you through the process and he makes you feel very comfortable and welcome. He wants to see you succeed, not only for weight loss, but also to become healthy. Overall he is an excellent surgeon.
The hospital and hotel facilities at OCA hospital offered by Lite´n Free were very comfortable and unbelievable. I felt very safe and secure during my stay. Everyone was very helpful, especially my patient coordinator, I don’t know what we would have done without her. She made our stay very pleasant and comfortable.

I was afraid to go to Mexico for a surgery, but after doing many hours of research about Lite´n Free I felt very confident in my decision. Coming to the hospital and meeting the wonderful staff just proved my confidence to be true. Dr. de la Garza is a professional and he made me feel very comfortable about the procedure and the results. He has excellent bed side manner and truly cares about his patients as an individual. A few of the things I liked about him, and that future patients should be aware of are: experience, empathy, bed side manner, attention to all details and timeliness. He emphasizes aftercare 100%, and I received detailed instructions about this in a handout. I also had 1:1 sessions with the nutritionist and psychologist.
The staff of Lite´n Free were friendly, knowledgeable, caring and professional, Nina made my stay a very special experience. The facilities at OCA hospital were outstanding; clean and well-equipped.
I sincerely want to thank Dr. de la Garza, Nina and the rest of the staff for making a very positive impact on my new way of living. I know that I can now embark in my healthy journey.

Doctor Javier de la Garza is an awesome human who truly cares about other individuals and their needs and concerns. He was very hospitable and professional with a touch US doctors could learn from. He has a very friendly demeanor and that never changed. His staff are the best also. Nina and Ana go over and beyond what any host here in the US would do. I would recommend anyone to him. Their program at litenfree.com is better than anyone could ever want. I have NO negative things to say. I would do it again without hesitation.

I thought Dr. de la Garza had a wonderful bedside manner. He was very respectful, did not speak "down" to me and was very understanding. I felt as if he understood my struggle rather than judge me. My impression of him only improved. I did a lot of research so I knew a lot about the procedure, but he was willing to answer questions when I arrived at 9PM which was great. Dr. de la Garza really emphasized aftercare and the 4 commandments Quality, Quantity, Frequency and Exersice which if I follow them I will be succesful. I also talked with the nutritionist who was totally helpful. His patient coordinators Nina and Anna were wonderful and so helpful from the time I started inquiring about the Lap Band to the time I left Mexico.
Future patients should know that they are in good hands and I would recommend this program to anyone who is struggling with their weight and want to gain longtime weightloss. Dr. de la Garza has a tremendous amount of experience and you are treated like royalty. On a scale from 1-10 Dr. de la Garza earned a 15!

I was very happy with Dr. de la Garza. I instantly felt that this Dr. was very nice and professional, with great surgical competence as well as bedside manners. He emphasizes aftercare very much and has a very complete aftercare program.
My experiences in OCA Hospital in Monterrey was wonderful. Everyone from ER to admissions to all the nurses and employees were warm, very helpful, cordial and just very down to earth people. The hotel was very, very nice and clean and people are so professional. Overall, I am very, very pleased with the way Dr. de la Garza treated me in every aspect of the procedure, I give him 5 stars! Both Anna and Nina, his patient coordinators are very friendly and warm, and they made me feel very comfortable and happy. This was a great experience and I am really glad I went. Everyone was so nice and the hospital was so clean! The nurses and doctors were all so nice and helpful and encouraging. Dr. de la Garza emphasized aftercare a lot. Encouraging me how important it was for me to make changes.
If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t change anything! I would recommend anyone to go here.
Of course, at first I was apprehensive, but I received calls and emails from staff and got to know them. When we arrived in Mexico, they were at the airport to pick us up and gave us the best hospitality ever!

I have been on hospital staff at military and civilian hospitals in the US for 15 years. I have never been treated so kindly, respectfully, and professionally.
The quality of care I received with Dr. Garza and his staff is far above any I have seen in any hospital setting. I would have it again, just for the great hotel room!!!

Dr. Javier de la Garza is very professional, has excellent medical approach and motivated me a lot. Although he is back in Mexico, he has left me in the hands of his Peruvian counterpart who will lead the team that will supervise for the coming years. My surgery date was 5-26-04 and I am up and peppy, although I had a terrible night yesterday. I am optimistic with my new future.


I have to add that I was shocked when I saw a lady at my club which had the surgery with Dr. Javier de la Garza 13 months ago and has lost over 110 pounds. Maria Teresa Rodrigo encouraged me to get the surgery and put me in contact with Dr. de la Garza. Four weeks later Dr. de la Garza was in Lima and here I am on my path to recovery from morbid obesity. RNY is new in Lima, almost all the surgeries are done with the gastric banding but the RNY is more successful that is why I went for it.

I met Dr. de la Garza only for 15 minutes before my surgery since he was in Peru to certify surgeons in gastric banding method of bariatric surgery, although he performed a gastric bypass on me because my insurance would not pay for the gastric banding.

I was very impressed by him and I wanted to ask a million questions but there was no time. I was the second patient on his list for his surgeries that afternoon and he left Peru the following morning for Mexico.

Nevertheless, I am very happy with the way things have gone for me that I recommended Dr. de la Garza to a lady I met at my water aerobics classes and he came to Peru for her surgery and Dr. Jose de Vinatea (Peruvian Counterpart) found another patient who needed a gastric bypass so he also operated him.

The day after he operated my friend, he invited me for lunch at his hotel and we chatted for over an hour an a half. He answered all of my questions thoroughly, in a language that I could understand. He said he was happy with my 110 pounds I had lost but I had a long trip ahead of me (I weight 250 pounds). He stressed that I should really change my eating patterns if I wanted to continue weight because I had been stationary for the last to months.

Dr. de la Garza motivated me very much and gave me guidelines for my future. He really explained all the postoperative steps I should follow with his Peruvian counterparts in order to achieve the best results of my bariatric surgery.

I had so many concerns and questions about my surgery that he offered to run tests for me the following day. He did a fluoroscopic evaluation of my bypass and I do not have words to thank him for his services. He is very gentle, charismatic and knowledgeable and has trained and certified physicians all over South America in the gastric band laparoscopic surgery. Although he is in Mexico and I am in Peru, I will be under the care of some excellent physicians and he has promised to check on me every time he comes back to Lima.

No matter what type of bariatric surgery you're considering, the most important factor in its success is the surgeon you choose. If you want someone that truly cares about your health and well being, chose Dr. de la Garza as your surgeon. His office is in Mexico, but can travel to your home town for your surgery.
