Dr. Sonpal was very easy going and down to earth he made me feel very comfortable. He had a nice sense of humor but he also was very thorough about explaining the surgery.
Although Dr. Sonpal is great the office staff was wonerful to I really feel like they are in my corner 100% Especially Diane Harris
I just met with the surgeon today and was very impressed with him. He seems like he cares about you. Since this is my first meeting with him, I was extremely nervous. He is very straight forward with you and wants to make sure that you will follow all the requirements after surgery. From what I hear, he is one of the best, so I am totally comfortable putting my life in his hands.
My first impression was good, and it didn't change. He and the staff of the Cleveland Center for Bariatric Surgery are VERY busy, which could make it frustrating at times when trying to get or give information - but I'm a control freak, so that's MY problem, lol! CCBS has a very structured pre op and post op program, so I have never felt uneducated, and I never felt as if I would be abandoned after the surgery, either. All of the risks, potential complications, expectations, etc., were thoroughly covered. I rate the program - and Dr. Sonpal - very highly. I also felt the doctor's bedside manner (and that of the other practitioners who saw me while I was in the hospital) was very good.
The only qualm I MIGHT have is that due to the number of patients in the program, I think one could feel "lost" in the shuffle; however, I had no complications at all and all went well for me, so there was no reason for me to have an exorbitant amount of attention.
Dr. Sonpal was really cool. I tried for wls 2 years ago and got a lovely denial letter from my insurance company. My husband went with me for my second initial consult, and the doctor was totally amazed at how my husband was doing. He had his surgury January 25, 2001 and has lost a huge amount of weight. Everyone in the office remembered him and asked how he was. Dr. Sonpal knew I already had any and every tid-bit of information I could find. He assured me that the staff would get my paperwork sent out a.s.a.p., even though it was right before Christmas. So hopefully(cross my fingers), they got my information sent out before the new year. The doctor told me I had to have a couple of tests done, upper GI and a Psych evaluation. Its about time I do those anyway. Diane has been a real sweetie. She gets back to my e-mails as soon as she gets in the office. I know the crew down at Saint Vincent's is an awesome crew. I know of many people that have gone through the C.C.B.S. office, so I know they will take care of me as best as possible.
Dr. Sonpal was great. If anything my impression has changed for the positive. After surgery, I called for a simple nurse type question, and HE, not a nurse called back. The staff of CCBS is great...open....helpful...
May seem hard to believe, but I really liked Dr. Sonpal. No negatives with him that I experienced. If anything with CCBS, I wish they would work on what you can eat/when you can eat afterwords. Yes, they have a videotape, and discussions in pre-discharge and PAT, but my head was spinning with so much other info. Clear, concise material....a plastic covered page would be a great addition.
Overall, I thought Dr. Sonpal was great.
Dr. Sonpal is the best at what he does. He has a personality that I wish he could bottle and sell to interns/residents/med students/fellows and anybody else in the medical field. There was nothing I didnt like about him. He doesnt beat around the bush he is straight forward and to the point. If you are extremely sensitive you might find his humor a little hard to swallow at times but I myself think its refreshing. He is extremely funny to the point that I had to wipe tears from my eyes because he had me laughing so hard. He is more than competent. He knows his stuff and does his best to accomodate each patient by not treating them as a number but as person with feelings. He leaves plenty of time for asking him whatever it is you need to know to put your mind at ease. I trust him with my life. He just happens to be the bloodless care specialist at CCBS just an FYI for folks who shy away from blood transfusions for their own reasons. He is an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10 :)
I MET DR.SONPAL AUGUST 13,2003 AND MY FIRST IMPRESSION WAS "REAL".HE ANSWERED ALL OF MY QUESTIONS WITHOUT SUGAR-COATING ANYTHING.HE ASKED ME QUESTIONS ABOUT MYSELF AND MY LIFE.HE WAS INTERESTED AND LET ME KNOW THAT WITH ALL I HAVE GOING NOW I HAVE TO SIT BACK AND LET OTHERS TAKE OVER FOR AWHILE AND NOT FEEL GUILTY BECAUSE I'M NOT DOING EVERYTHING..THE STAFF IS WONDERFUL!!THEY DIDN'T MAKE ME FEEL BAD ABOUT MYSELF RATHER LET ME KNOW THAT THE SKY'S THE LIMIT FROM HERE ON.ESPECIALLY,DIANE HARRIS,WHO I'M SURE GOT A LITTLE TIRED OF MY NUMEROUS E-MAILS BUT YET IN STILL ANSWERED EVERY ONE OF THEM PROMPLTY.EVERYTHING WAS EXPLAINED TO ME WITHOUT ALOT OF JARGON.I WAS INITIALLY GOING WITH ANOTHER HOSPITAL BUT I WAS SOOO IMPRESSED WITH ST.VINCENT THAT I SWITCHED AND AM GLAD I DID,,,,SURGERY IS IN 20 DAYS!!!!MORE UPDATES SOON,...
