Howard Simon is one of the finest surgeons I know. He is extremely knowledgeable about bariatric surgery. He is very proactive about aftercare and support groups. He explained all of the possible risks of surgery, what to expect when I got home, and what to do should a problem arise. He's got a quirky sense of humor, which suited me to a \"T\" and we still have a great relationship after 4 years post-op! Matter of fact, I coordinate all of the support groups for the CNY Bariatric Center/Upstate Medical Center. rnrnHoward is a very competent surgeon. He has a pretty good bedside manner and not that \"omnipotent\" complex a lot of surgeons have. He listens to his patients and to his staff. rnrn
I met Dr. Simon at the Bariatric Clinic in Syracuse (upstate), New York and was impressed by his confidence in me to be a success at weight loss. I had no idea how right he was/is. My surgery was performed at SUNY Medical Center (State University of New York) on December 19, 2006. That was a Tuesday. Wednesday morning, afternoon and evening, I was walking the hospital floor just about every hour on the hour.rnThe nursing staff and their assistants who took care of me are the best. The medical support staff who visited me treated me like I was the only patient there. I went home on Thursday, December 21 and have had absolutely no pain of any kind since. I had my trusty bottle of Hydrocodine liquid but only took 5 tsps over 3 days in anticipation of the pain that everyone said I would get. Nothing.rnIf you are considering the procedure, I would highly recommend it. And as long as there is support group that you go to before and after your operation, you too will be a surgical success.
Just 3 days before my surgery date i got cold feet. Dr. Simon was wonderful. He called me two days in a row and talked with me at length to help me ease my mind. He was mindful of my feelings and reassuring that I was making the right decision for me. He helped me feel at ease and continue to go through with this much needed surgery. I was Dr. Simon's VERY FIRST Lap-Band Patient ever, and never at any time was I worried or concerned. He performed the surgery with the assistance of a procotr at 7:30 in the morning on July 13 and I came through with flying colors. The only thing I did not like was that Dr. Simon never came to visit me while I was in the hospital after surgery. i would have liked to see his smiling face, to have discussed my surgery and asked a few questions that I have to wait for my July 24th follow up to ask. But all in all it was a wonderful experience. I would recommend Dr. Simon to anyone.
Dr. Simon was wonderful - I liked him right from the very first time I met him. He put me at ease about the surgery and my fears. He answered all my questions. rnHis office staff is friendly and knowledgable in every aspect of the program. I really can't say enough about all of them. I would rate Dr. Simon and his office a 10+++++
