I had RNY surgery in March 2010 with Dr. Simon. His office staff has always been very friendly and knowledgeable regarding any questions or concerns I have had. I really appreciated his bed side manner before I went into surgery, he put me at ease right away by coming in with a smile and positive energy.
I was impressed by Dr. Simon the first time I saw him. He did not disappoint and kept an upbeat attitude throughout the entire process. More to the point, he is as down to earth a Dr. as I have ever encountered. To say nothing of his experience and expertise in this type of surgery. Because I was high risk due to a past PE, Dr Simon has decided to send me home taking shots of blood thinners each day for the next 14 days. He is so careful to dot all the i's and cross all the t's. In trying to evaluate Dr. Simon on his bedside manner compared to his sugical competence, I find it a very difficult call. I would have to say he is equal in both catagories and I am very glad I put myself in his practiced able hands.
Dr Simon is the best! He is professional, caring, and highly skilled, He has great bedside manner and explained everything in detail, especially the risks. (I was considered a high risk case because of an underlying medical condition) Post op he and his staff were easy to reach. It's now 3 years later and I continue my yearly after care visits and am still treated with the same care, concern and professionalism as I was right after my by-pass surgery

So far I have only gone to the information session where the surgeon, the dietician and the exercise physiatrist(?) talked. I was impressed with his record, he answered many questions from the audience. There was anrnemphasis on before and aftercare. The importance of exercise and emotional needs of the patient. Have appointment next week with post more then.rnrnrnMy initial appointment was march 19th and I was told I wound be a good canidate for laporoscopic gastric bypass I handed all of the items on the list but still need a psych eval. I met with the RD and was told how to eat and to write everthing down it is now April 12th and my next appointment is april 30th I think I have lost about 5 # of the 12# I need to lose but my scales are different than the scales at Dr. Simon's office. I couldn't get an appointment with Dr Hayes for my psych eval until june 2 and I tried other avenues but most others are booking out as far. This is probably better considering that I have 2 kids graduating from high school the end of June. I'll write more after my next appt.rnrnrnrn5/7/09rnWell I am over six months out and never updated my surgeon information. I have been very happy with the way syracuse conducts business with their patients. I have made good progress I am currently down 95# and I had my surgery on October 16th. I think the Bariatric surgery Center in Syracuse has a great program compared to some of the other places doing surgeries since the dietician is right on staff, they want to see your commitment before the surgery with the 5% weight loss, and even though it may take a little longer to get in Isn't it worth it to have a surgeon who is one of the best. I have had no problems or adverse affects- it is very important to do the things the surgeon asks. After all this is probably one of the biggest changes in your life- I recommend syracuse over utica to anyone who asks me since I had such a great experience my only regret is that I waited so long to get healthier.

I liked him alot...great bedside manner and seems to care about his patients.rnStaff seems nice..rnthey all seem to have a good program and want to make sure you know EXACTLY what is involved. Tho they are a business....rnDr seems very knowledgeable and has lots of experience. Well so far..I'd give him a 10. I liked him alot. I trusted him and his staff. The group of newbies were addressed as a whole and classed in nutrition , the procedure and after care. Then one on one with nutritionist and nurse for weight etc. I originally wanted another Dr who worked int his group--then found out my Dr actually trained the other one. That made me feel better about my DR. rnrn9-29-08 Dr Simon has been great. He is a very compassionate man. He wants his patients to succeed and seems genuine in his concern. I like the staff very much! They are easily accessible by phone and will answer anything they can for you. Have had a wonderful experience thus far! rnrnMy only negative thing was in the hospital...some of the nurses weren't as helpful as others....One actually had me suffer with a morphine headache longer than I should have...but over all I had a good stay. One nurse even helped me when I had trouble-fear- of falling asleep. She offered to come into my room until I fell asleep. I didn't take her up on it. but it was nice of her to offer.
I had my surgery on Jan 14, 2008. I knew of Dr Simon at Upstate. I was employed there as a nurse. I knew he was a trauma doctor, and if he could repair someone who was seriously injured, he could certainly do my RNY. When I met him at the Bariatric center, he was confident and very straight- forward. I can say he only would do this proceedure on the most promising candidates . He and his office staff were strick and pulled no punches. I was informed from the start of the risks and benifits. I would rate him at the top of the charts. He is a great surgeon, confident and dedicated.
