My surgeon was highly recommended by my primary care doctor. I had originally planned to go through Cleveland Clinic and when I spoke to my doctor he thought the surgery was a great idea for me but I should have Dr. Schreiber. He said he was the best. I guess it took about a year to get the approval for the surgery. The doctors office did all the paper work. They would call and tell me to go for whatever test the insurance wanted. The doctors office was very helpful. At times it was a little frustrating trying to get a hold of them. I guess this procedures has become very popular and they were so busy. They have their own website where you can check to see how your insurance request is coming along. The doctor was very good. He was not real personable but, the staff more than made up for it. Some of the staff were actually patients which really seemed to help. I was very well informed of any risks and what to expect afterwards. I am very glad I made this choose.

Dr. Schreiber came across as very caring. He is thorough and extremely professional. I would recommend him without hesitation.

The Cleveland Center for Bariatric Surgery at St. Vincent's Charity Hospital is a first rate program. It is comprehensive and the staff is very involved with your procedure and recovery.

The CCBS has an extensive aftercare program.

He was informed, experienced and straightforward.

It did not change.

The staff of CCBS was wonderful, helpful and answered all questions.

He was perhaps a bit stiff in bedside manner, though never haughty or offensive.

If you ask a question you get a very direct answer.

Aftercare is highly stressed. And the program is very structured.

I was informed of all the risks of surgery by Dr. Schreiber. I was also given a good deal of printed information about that topic.

I would rate Dr. Schreiber as a top-notch surgeon.

I think his surgical competence is better than his bedside manner, however his bedside manner was good enough for me.

Man of few words dealt with the facts and wanted to know if I havd throughly researched and thought about the seriousness of this surgery. By reading this site prior to my appointment I knew what to expect. His office staff and especially his asst.Tracy was very helpful. He stressed the whole process is what you need to think about long term and gave me an article on high calorie grazing. This was very helpful. I would give him an A.

He doesn't talk much and shows no emotion or personality. He was cordial and answered all my questions but not a warm fuzzy person at all! Seemed to do a good job.

I was going through Dr. Mark Jaroch in Akron, however, he is no longer doing surgery( as of right now, anyway)so, I will be going to CCBS at St. Vincent's. I just got my 1st consult date (April 20, 2004) with Dr. Schreiber. I am so anxious! I am hoping that I may get a surgery date fairly quickly, as I have already had my psych eval and all my blood work, xrays, upper GI etc. and I have a letter from my insurance stating that they do not require a pre-authorization as long a s I meet the criteria and have the evaluation, and the surgeon sends all of that in with the operative report. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!

After reading all the profiles of his current patients, I knew Dr. Schreiber wasn't going to be all warm and fuzzy, and he wasn't. He was cordial, but emotionless. He made sure I fully understood the risks and benefits of gastric bypass surgery, that I knew how the surgery would be performed, and what my role was in making sure the surgery succeeded to help me achieve the weight loss I desire. As another patient put it so aptly, "you don't have to invite the surgeon to dinner, just have confidence in them as being capable and excellent in what they do"...after meeting Dr. Schreiber I think he is fully capable and qualified to do my surgery. Who knows, maybe I'll get him to smile at some point! I'll let you know what I think of his bedside manner, once I get that far. Right now, I'm on the joyous ride called "waiting for insurance approval"...Woo-Hoo!

My first impression of Dr. Schreiber was that he was very impersonable, but professional. I mostly dealt with the Dr.'s staff, who were wonderful! Very nice and helpful. They were more than willing to answer any question that I had or refer me to someone who could help me. I really didn't like that the doctor didn't seem very friendly, but I just thought, I am not here to make a friend, I am here for a surgery and I only heard wonderful things about his ability. He was actually Chief of Surgery at the hospital. He was more than qualified. I also realized he sees ALOT of patients each day and he just may have been having an off day. On the day of my surgery, he came in to speak with my husband and I and, although it was brief, he was friendly and reassuring. So, my second opinion was a good one. My surgery was flawless and I have had very little side effects. Overall, I believer he is extremely competent and did turn out to be somewhat friendly. But I would definately recommend him and his office. My experience overall was great. Their program is wonderful. There wasn't one side affect or possible complication that I wasn't totally aware of prior to my surgery. Fortunately for me, I had none. I had and Open Roux-n-y (or however you spell that :) and I was back to work 2 weeks later. If you are in the Cleveland area or are close enough to travel there for the surgery, I highly recommend going to Dr. Schrieber's Bariatric Clinic at the St. Vincent's Charity Hospital located downtown. Good Luck to anyone having the surgery, hopefully, it will be as great as an experience for you as it was for me!!! :)
