I met with Dr. Schreiber 4 weeks ago. He is a very gently, knowledgeable man. No high pressure from him. His bedside manner isn't all warm and fuzzy but he has a quiet way about him that gives you confidence in what he says and does. He identifies if you are a good candidate for his program and if you are interested then you go on to the scheduling and insurance process. He also gives you information about what's going to happen from that day forward, some of it may be more than you want to know but nothing is held back. He has a very good aftercare program set up for his patients, even a clothes swap as your body begins to change. His office staff are wonderful. They always answer your questions and are very helpful.
I'm a self pay. And believe me in saying that not all surgerons or hospitals charge the same thing. I found St. Vincent and Dr. Schreiber to be a very good combination for me.
I have met with Dr. Schreiber once, on July 18, 2000
for my initial consultation. He was very
professional and knowledgeable. He patiently
listened to and answered all of my questions.
The office staff was very friendly and helpful.
They definitely know what they are doing.
There is a structured aftercare program in place,
which is one thing my family doctor insisted on before he
would refer me.
Dr. Schreiber was very clear in detailing the
risks of RNY. He wants to make sure his patients
fully understand what is going to happen to them.
I would recommend Dr. Schreiber to anyone in the
area who is considering WLS.
11/1/00 in case anyone is looking for it, Dr. Schreiber's website is: http://www.clevelandbariatricsurg.com
Very gentle man, listened to me, was very honest and to the point.
I've only met him once, at my initial personal consult.
Office staff has been very encouraging, concerned and genuine.
Addressed risks very openly, made sure I understood them.
Discussed insurance right away, gave me good pointers, that would help speed approval.
I would rate him a 10.
Both great...
Dr. Schreiber is very professional and genuine. He demonstrates concern about all aspects of the surgery--physical and emotional. His office has a comprehensive program including a dietician and aftercare. St. Vincent's Charity Hospital has a bariatric unit with private rooms and specialized bariatric beds. Dr. Schreiber and Dr. Sonpal complete all surgeries together, therefore reducing surgery time and allowing them to be familiar with all cases. Dr. Schreiber expressed the risks of surgery at the initial appointment. The pre-op testing is very comprehensive (bloodwork, respiratory tests, complete medical history, chest x-ray, ultrasounds of various organs, etc). After the pre-op testing is completed you meet with office staff including the nurse, dietician, and pulmonary doctor. There are numerous forms to sign and also a written "test" to determine your knowledge of the surgery and aftercare needs. The most frustrating part has been the long wait to have the surgery and dealing with the receptionist, Sondra. She has not been friendly to me by phone or in person. Everyone else is wonderful, including the pre-op testing staff. Sherry completes the insurance investigations and she is very prompt to return calls. Sherry goes above and beyond to assist people who have difficulty obtaining approval. The program offers a clothing exchange, a group for new post op patients, and an ongoing support group.
12-12-00 I had my surgery on 12-2-00. I was the first patient to ever have surgery scheduled on a saturday. The staff was excellent! They explained everything I was about to go thru and they kept my family informed. The only problem I had was the iv was hard to put in. I have a massive egg shaped thing where the needle was. Fortunately I was numbed so I didn't feel her digging! Surgery went smoothly. I was aware afterwards. I was impressed with the staff. My surgeon was Dr. Screiber. He did come to visit everyday, but not a talkative man. He would only ask any problems? and walk away. He didn't comment on how he thought I was doing, or anything. Thank God he has a great staff, cuz I would be totally lost if it were just up to him. He needs a better bed side manner. Otherwise, he was fine.
12-22-00--I just needed to update everyone on how much I appreciated Dr. Screiber emailing me to address my concerns. If he didn't care about his patients, he certainly wouldn't have taken the time out of his busy day to email me. I think he saves lives everyday by giving obese people a chance to have a fairly normal life. I haven't had my aftercare appt yet, but that's scheduled for the 29th. I'll let you all know more then.
