I just had my first consultation with Dr. Schreiber and was very nervous about meeting him. Although I wouldn't call him a warm fuzzy kind of guy, he was caring in an intelligent and let's get to it kind of way. He gained my total trust when I asked him why he does this and he gave me a heartfelt answer. The staff I met so far are friendly and helpful. Karen is a good choice for the seminar, she is intelligent, friendly and supportive. She really stressed the aftercare, making sure we knew that it isn't a cut and run operation, they are with us for two full years, more if necessary, and any problems 10 yrs down the road they will still be there for anything relating to gastric bypass. I feel total confidence in the doctor and staff. Now if insurance just comes through.
Dr. Schreiber is very thourough, very pro patient, wanted me to lose at least 70 lbs, so he would feel better about performing the surgery on me, to better my chances of surviving, he put me and my husband at ease. I trust him 100 percent he told me, that yes he could do the surgery at the weight I was at the time, but he felt the risk would be to great.he addressed all mine and my husbands concerns and we have every confidence in him... I would highly recommend him as a surgeon.
I was referred to Cleveland Bariatric Surgery Center by a former patient. I went for my consult on June 28 and met with Dr. Schreiber. The office staff was very helpful and most informative.
Dr. Schreiber answered all of my questions and also my mothers questions..thank goodness she went with me. I was very comfortable with him and was very happy how the visit turned out.
He discussed with me the life changing decision that I was going to be making and after talking with him I knew that this surgery was going to be for me. He did go over all the risks and complications which he explained are the same as with any major surgery. The Cleveland Bariatric Surgery Center does have an aftercare program which they discussed but I do not have the details on this yet as I just learned this week the my surgery is scheduled!!!
Overall I would rate the Dr. and staff as very informative and helpful, although it is easy to see that they are definitely very busy.
I believe both surgical competence and bedside manner are both very important. I would not feel comfortable having surgery if I was not comfortable with the attitude of the surgeon. This is the first time in my life that I am going to have a major surgery so I feel that having both is important.
The only disappointment for me was that once the surgery was approved by my insurance and a message was left on machine that they had a surgery date scheduled, it took about 2 1/2 weeks before I actually found out. I believe that they are just very busy and sometimes it is hard to keep up.
I enjoyed my stay in Dr. Schreiber's waiting room...I met many people from all different stages in their journies, and I appreciate the struggles we all go through. Dr. Schreiber was professional and polite and I appreciated his candor and honesty in risk assessment. I wasn't looking for a "teddy bear" doctor, and Dr. Schreiber fits my idea exactly. He really emphasizes the team approach to surgery and aftercare, and so does his staff.
My impression of Dr.Schreiber is that he loves his job and is on my side. He sems very caring and he is the best in the field. He demands that you participate in all aftercare programs, and he has a very structured program. I would rate him as a definite 10, and I want surgical competence as well as a good bedside manner, and Dr.Schreiber seems to have both. So far I have had no negative experiences, since I started this journey.
I had heard that Dr.Schreiber was a man about business, and he is. I knew that he was a serious person, my sister-in-law's consult was with Dr. Sonpal (same office as Dr.Schreiber) and she said he has to be the funny one. Dr.Schreiber is a very nice person from what I have seen. The staff is great, the have some post-op employees. It is very encouraging to have them there to discuss their success. Dr. Schreiber isn't Patch Adams, so be prepared for what he is like. He is a very serious guy. The aftercare with Dr. S is extensive. They follow your progress for 2 years. My consult was a group thing. First they weigh and do your body mass index, then they take the group into a projection room and one of the nurses does a presentation. All of the possible side effects, success photos etc. I can say that Dr.S has only had one patient die after surgery. It was a congenital defect that no one knew about that was aggravated by surgery. I think he passed away after 5 months. Overall, I like Dr.S. I am very excited. I have heard that his surgical competence is the best. Usually a surgeon performs surgery with a Surgical Tech, Dr. Schreiber and Dr. Sonpal perform surgery together that way you are only in surgery for 90 minutes. They have performed so many surgeries together that they can anticipate each other's next move. Usually the surgery is a couple of hours or so. They only negative thing I can say about my experience so far is the wait. My initial consult was May 5, and I am scheduled for November 19. Since it is just the two of them doing surgery the wait is long. But, they said in our group cosult that they are hiring another surgeon.
