My first impression was at a seminar that was held in his office. I was very impressed with the presentation and felt like he covered the information very well.
The whole staff has been excellent, they are there to help you. I felt they went above and beyond in helping me with my insurance approval and didn't seem to mind that I called all the time.
I felt like I was in very good hands during the surgery, and was very pleased with the visits from both Dr. Merriman and Donna while I was in the hospital.
From what I have heard and read his post-op diet is more strict than other doctors but I do understand he wants to make sure everything is healed before starting on solids.
So far everything has been very positive and I do appreciate that he did not just cut me open and sent me on my way. He has always taken time at every appt to answer my questions. The aftercare is so important and I do appreciate that alot.
Dr. Kenneth Jones did my RNY February 13th, 1998. He is great, but I later went to Dr. Merriman for hernia repair with skin removal in June of 2004. I had been working with his Nutritionist, Lisa Stansbury at Christus Schumpert Bariatric Health Center. I quickly learned that Dr. Merriman is interested not only in the surgery, but long term aftercare. Long term support is essential in my opinion for long term success. Believe me, at almost 8 years post op, it can be very difficult to keep the weight down. I would rate Dr. Merriman and his staff very highly. If you are looking for Bariatric Surgery and long term help and support, you are in the right place. He works with Alycia Bellah, LPC that is also invaluable to his practice. She also has had gastric bypass and usually oversees his support groups. You will always walk away from a meeting feeling like you have learned something that will help keep you headed in the right direction.
My first impression of DR. Merriman was he really cared about his patients. It all just got better overtime. His staff are so wonderful, caring, and nice. The least thing I like about Dr.Merriman was that we didnt get to talk as much one on one like I would have liked too..he's sooo busy too. His future patients should know that they are in good hands. He has a very strict aftercare plan, which is very good cause that shows that he cares. Over all, I dont know how I would "rate" him but I don't think I would have been comfortable with any other surgeon.
I went somewhere else first and was totally put off by that doctors lack of common courtesy. When I went to Dr Merriman's office it was a totally different experience. The whole office staff is warm and caring and interested in the PERSON not the PAYCHECK.
He is very strong on aftercare and on you realizing that the surgery is not an answer but just a TOOL to help in regaining control over your health. He has monthly support meetings at his office and I cannot wait for my first one later this month. I would recommend him to anyone considering surgery without reservation.
My first impression of Dr. Merriman was that he was rushed and that he didn't tell me much.
His staff was wonderful from the very first phone call.
The least liked thing about Dr. Merriman was that he didn't seem to talk that much to me at our very fist appointment.
He strongly emphasizes attendance to his aftercare program.
After you are around him more, he becomes more friendly.
I have researched Dr. Merriman to a great extent, and he has equal surgical competence and bedsided manner.
