At first I was kinda unsure whether or not I wanted to stay with Dr. Eid, because he wasnt what I was used to, usually my doctors laugh and joke with me, but not him, he was more serious, but Im sure that is a good thing. I have read so many good things about Dr Eid online and on this website even...I feel very confident about him.
Dr. Eid and his staff are amazing! They were there for me, all along the year and a half I took to get prepared for starting my true journey.rnrnThey were there every step of the way, and were there to help me decide what to do when i was advised NOT to have bypass (at the time I was sad, but now, I realize it was such a complete blessing!).rnrnDr. Eid is such a kind and gentle man. He is so incredibly intelligent and knowledgable, he can put you at ease within 30 seconds of meeting him. I am so pleased and would recomend him to anyone at any time.
Like others, I met Dr. Eid at the pre-op workshop. I found him to be very knowledgeable and willing to explain not only the positives but the negatives/risks that go along with the surgery. My only complaint has been that I haven't gotten to see him/talk to him as much as I would like. He did my surgery January 5, 2006, and discharged me on January 7, and I have not seen him since then. Granted his wife had a baby when I was suppose to see him in February; but, I won't see him now until July. The nurses and physician's assistant are good - but not the same as seeing him. And everyone else is right - he has a GREAT accent :-)
My first impression of Dr. Eid was that he would be strict and he was "all business." We had an educational group session before we ever got into the office for surgery. It was very informative and my skeptical husband even felt better after this. I don't think the staff prepared us for how much discomfort (scratch that--it was PAIN) immediately after surgery. But, maybe they were trying not to scare us.
Dr. Eid continued to remain very professional. Not a lot of small talk or interaction outside what is going on with your surgery. Don't get me wrong, he's not unfriendly, but if you like a talker and jokester, it's not him. I like that he's a younger guy and appears to keep up with the most recent research. My surgery was on a Friday and I only saw him once on Friday afternoon after my surgery. Another doctor checked up on me the rest of the time. To be fair, I happened to have my surgery the week before Dr. Eid was taking off due to his wife having a baby--so I will cut him some slack there.
The entire program at UPMC is very structured from beginning to end. THey do hundreds of these surgeries there each year and it shows. Pre-op there is a very informative guide about what to expect before during and after. They anticipate every need and every question and address it in your educational materials. The staff is spot-on with answers to questions. I didn't even deal with my insurance company because they have an insurance coordinator who does it all. The aftercare program is also very structured and you are given timelines about when to start vitamins, various food stages, and follow up appointments.
I would rate Magee and Dr. Eid very highly. I was completely satisfied with my service there and I felt like I was in good hands should anything go wrong. The staff at Magee in the bariatric unit was fantastic. They were very caring and attentive. Because bariatric surgery is one of their specialities, I'd definitely recommend this hospital and Dr. Eid to patients considering WLS.
9/22/05 - My first impression of Dr. Eid was a very good one. Not only is he a very good looking man with a great accent, but he was smiling and comunucating with the group. He explained the procedure, let us ask questions, and then answered each one without rushing. I'm feeling really good about my choice of surgeon and hospital. I got here thanks to all of the info I gleaned on OH - so to all of you who filled in these questionaires, I'm forever in your debt!
11/26/05 - Everyone in Dr. Eid's office has been very nice. He doesn't always get all of his faxes, though. I suggest everyone keep a couple of copies of every test result. One for home and one for work so you can re-fax as needed. I've had to wait until the next day because I had to get the results from home before I could re-send them.
I talked with numerous people that have had the surgery and it was unanamous that the group from Magee Hospital's min. invasive surgery center was where I needed to go .
I completed the paperwork required and had attended the workshop. I was assigned to Dr.Eid and after meeting him I was very impressed!!!! There was also a good vibe.
He appears to have surgical competence & bedside manner, I'm a nurse and I expect both of these qualities from a Dr. that's caring for me.
I met with Dr. Eid and his PA Nichole Theil. Both seem very nice. I was very comfortable talking with both of them. They answered my questions completely. I've dealt with the office staff as well and they have all been courteous and helpful. Dana, the insurance guru is wonderful. They have been very quick to return calls. I feel confident that I will be able to contact them with whatever I need. Dr. Eid did seem to be more slanted toward RNY and I don't feel that he explained the severity of the complications that can and do occur with RNY. The practice does have one nurse who is specifically in charge of fills...Interested to see how that goes. I have not had surgery yet and will update when I do. All in all I feel Dr. Eid and his staff are competent and appear to have a decent bedside manner. And, he is really cute and has a great foreign accent ;)
