I met with Dr. Hall the day before my surgery(Sept.9). He is friendly, yet professional. He is very thorough in everything he discusses with you. We met as a group and yet it still seemed personal. Hard to describe. A lot of people will tell you he prefers the VBG. Perhaps he does, but he goes over every procedure in detail. He does NOT try to persuade you one way or the other. He is particular as far as his criteria for Lap procedures. The week I had my open VBG, 4 patients had open RNY's with him.
Dr. Hall visited me every day after surgery. Very nice man. He treats each patient as an individual, not a number. I really appreciated his blunt honesty. No sugar coating, but plenty of heart!
As a side note, his staff is the best. These are people who become your friend and guide you though everything.
My first impression of Dr. Hall was that here was a man that didn't get all caught up in the hoopla a being a surgeon. He is a very approachable, straight forward man. He will certainly tell you the way it is. A lot a people will tell you that he prefers the VBG, which may be true as a 'personal' opinion, however he covers ALL wls methods currently 'out on the market'. He will show you each procedure and their differences, the risks involved with each, potential future problems with each, and then he leaves the decision up to you. He even covers stuff which other surgeons seem to think will be obvious to potential patients which are obvious only after they are pointed out.
He only performs the VBG and RNY currently. He does Lap following a narrow criteria but will be broadening it soon.
Dr. Hall is very big on aftercare. He wants to see or hear from his patients at least once a month.
I would pick Dr. Hall again and again. He is the best.
My first impression was that he was very laid back. I kinda felt that he did not really care if I had the surgery or not. He came across as very nonchalant. At the same .time , I am not having this surgery for him, I am having it for myself. I respected the fact that he was very up front and honest about everything. I believe that he knows what he is doing and I trust that he can perform the surgery safely as possible. He really doesn't care to do the RNY. He terrified me when I went to the consultation. He said that he would provide aftercare up to 5 years at no charge if you got to his office. He was very open about the good and bad of the surgery. It seemed like he went a little over board on the bad. When I left the consultation I just knew I was going to die a bald fat women. I feel that he is very competent and I felt very comfortable with his bedside manner. On a score from 1-10 I give him a 10.
DR. HALL HAS THE BEST BEDSIDE MANNER. HE IS ALSO VERY CONSERVATIVE WHEN IT COMES TO HIS PATIENTS' HEALTH.
HE WAS VERY PATIENT IN EXPLAINING EVERY SNGLE DETAIL ABOUT THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SURGERY AND ANY AND ALL COMPLICATIONS THAT CAN COME ALONG WITH THE SURGERIES.
DR. HALL'S NURSE, CAROL, WAS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST PARTS OF BEING IN TEXAS. SHE WAS AND CONTINUES TO BE VERY COMFORTING TO THE PATIENTS. SHE HAS TREATED ME AS IF I WERE DR. HALL'S ONLY PATIENT. DR. HALL EXPECTS THAT BECAUSE HIS PATIENTS ARE NOT IN THE SAME STATE,THAT YOU SHOULD CALL AND CHECK IN WITH THEM VERY OFTEN.
I HAVE FOUND THAT WHEN I SKIPPED A FEW WEEKS WITH NO CONTACT THAT DR.HALL PERSONALLY CONTACTED ME TO SEE HOW I WAS AND IF ALL WAS OK. I WOULD GIVE HIM A RATING OF 10 FOR HIS KINDNESS AND SKILL LEVEL.I WOULD RECOMMEND DR. HALL TO ANYONE.DR. HALL ALSO OFFERS 5 YEARS FREE POST OP SERVICES TO HIS WLS PATIENTS.
Professional, very informative, and rather quiet. Not so quiet once he gets going. His office staff are wonderful. He doesn't give you an opinion about which type of surgery he prefers, or about which he thought might be more effective for me. This leaves the decision up to you, not sure if this is good or bad. Aftercare is very important, he likes all of his patients to see him at least once a month and if that is not feasible, do to distance, then to at least call. He also has a support group that meets the first Sat. of each month. Puts alot of emphasis on the diet, and on excersize. He was very informative about the risks of both the RNY and the VBG. I learned a few things that my research had not covered, this caused me to change my decision from RNY to VBG, I don't regret this decision and feel greatful for the information given. Overall He was Great, both surgically and is his manner.

Great doctor very laid back and casual
office staff if great & they really work to get you approved
I would recommend him definitely
He has a support group that meets 1st Sat
of each month and you have follow up care for life!
He gives you all the options of ring or bypass & then you pick He is very through.
Bedside manner is not real high - he does come by to see you. He is not big on compassion & tells you it is not a miracle - that it is up to you if you suceed. He has given us the tool and we had to make it work.
The first time I met Dr. Hall was 2 days before I was to have my surgery. I thought he was a very nice Dr. However, he kind of put me off because he was so insistant on giving me a VBG, this is the kind of gastric bypass surgery that he feels is best. However, I was very much set on the RNY. He did all of the standard tests and my cardiology test came back saying that I had some kind of heart attack that I did not know about. So after flying from Kansas City to Lubbock Tx I had to fly back home and see a heart specialist to see what the problem was. He did a battery of tests on me and told me that I had a very strong and healthy heart and had no signs of EVER having a heart attack. So 3 wks later I flew back to Lubbock TX and had the RNY. However, being told that one has had a heart attack that they never knew about was very scary and upsetting for me. Dr. Hall did a fine job on me, but I think the scar he made could hve been MUCH smaller.
I have not had the surgery yet because I am still trying to get insurance approval.I have been in almost constant contact with Carol in Dr.Hall's office. She has gone so far as to email me information to help me get approval from my insurance and get others to call or email who may have info that will help.
My mother had her surgery with Dr.Hall about two months ago and has been very pleased. I have gone with her to his office on two occasions now and have been greeted by the staff both times with an intrest in the statis of my insurance battle.
I have so far been very impressed with Dr.Hall and his staff. When I finally get approval I will updater this.
I liked him instantly. He has a soft, easy manner about him and he's got a style about him that's sensitive and sweet, while making sure you follow his directions. He's very thorough and patient.
I went for a consultation THE DAY AFTER MY DAUGHTER CALLED THE OFFICE. She was helping me make calls and this was the second call she made that morning.
I had to drive 6 hours, but that's where the story gets interesting. But, I digress...
Carol is his right arm. She was truly wonderful. Jessie works in the office too, but I worked mainly with Carol.
Talk about helpful! You can not imagine what I went through to get there. Here's my story:
I left Alamogordo, NM at 9:30 at night. While driving though Seminole, TX, I got a ticket. No problem eventually, but it slowed me down. I wasn't paying attention to the road signs and didn't drive the proper highway. 80 miles later, I had to back track. When I finally got to Lubbock, it was almost 4 in the morning. I tried to find a motel--all were full, the Miss Texas Pageant was in town. So, I found the doctor's office and across the street was a 7-11 and I slept in my car! The next morning, after having about 1 1/2 hours sleep, I asked where I might shower and clean up. The nice girl there suggested the hospital across the street.
I went to see Carol and meet her to explain my trip. She immediately went to the hospital next door to ask for a room where I could clean up. I was in the room in about 10 minutes. After my shower, Jessie came back to get me and I had a few minutes to wait until my consultation.
That's when I met some of the lovely people who were waiting for their consultation for the first time and their surgeries were scheduled for the next morning.
We got acquainted and were waited on hand and foot. They brought in lunch with anything to drink we wanted. We met with the nutritionist and had that information.
When Dr. Hall came in, we had an extensive time with him while he explained all of the good, the bad and the ugly about this procedure. I was impressed.
What did I like least? That I have to wait for the insurance to get here!
Dr. Hall explained thoroughly everything that I need to know about my future. He talked about the possibility of death, bleeding, lung problems, blood clots and anything that might happen in the future. I am prepared to do this, no matter that I will feel as though I'm in prison for the amount of time it takes to lose the weight. But the fact of the matter is that I've been in prison already for my whole 50 years.
Once I am finished with the insurance company, I will get a surgery date the NEXT WEEK. Now, is this good news, or what?
I will update this as my progress continues.
The only negative thing I could say about this program from this point is that after our meal, we listened to Dr. Hall speak and explain things while we were sleepy! It was hard to stay awake for the 3 hours it took, but I was interested enough to shift my weight often in order to stay sharp. The fact that I had been up over 24 hours didn't help me stay awake, but I wanted to hear what he had to say.
