His staff was great, very nice office. I was really impressed with the amount of time he spent talking to me and my family. He really made us feel at ease and that he wanted to make sure we asked all the questions we needed. So often doctors make you feel rushed like your takeing too much of their time, but that was not the feeling here. Also his assistant was wonderful and sat in on the whole meeting also. I am looking forward to working with these people to reach my goal. Aftercare is a big deal to this office, and I very glad about this. I liked how he addressed the risks of surgery. He touched on the death rate but did not harp on it, he was very clear on the risks involved and the statistics of complications with this surgery, including his own stats of his leak rate. The only this I was not thrilled with was the need to loose 25 pounds, I thought this was a little too much, and that they would not seek approval until most of this weight was gone, I am not sure why they would not start the process as soon as possible as this can take time. Overall I was really impressed with the doctor and his staff.
My first meeting with Dr. Elliott was very informative. He explained the procedure and answered questions. He suggested I attend a support group meeting the following Saturday, which I did. He was the guest speaker there and I enjoyed his presentation and glimpsed his sense of humor.
His office staff seems very efficient. My personal visit to the office was good and I have called twice since then to check the status of reports the doctor was waiting for and both times, Tracy was helpful. So far, the only disappointment was after waiting for three months for my first appointment, I was called the day before to have the appointment rescheduled two more weeks later. But this was a hospital scheduling problem which was unavoidable but still disappointing.
My first impression - totally business - dry humor
My impression changed over time with visits after he saw my commitment and dedication. His office staff was phenominal. Very helpful, comforting, polite, kind. I can't say enough kind things about Stacy or Tracy.
The thing I liked least about Dr. Elliot, again, his very straight business attitude. On my first visit, I felt like a number and nothing important.
If you should visit Dr. Elliot - don't be intimidated by his demeanor. He is very kind.
He is pretty stict about his after care. I am driving 4 hours away for him to do the surgery and he asked me to please stay in the area for a week after surgery just in case anything comes up. This could be costly to get a hotel for a week but his dedication to me, I appreciate.
If you live in the area, he has an aftercare program. Living so far away, he has given me tips. This one being one of them.
He very clearly address the risks of surgery and is very serious about them. Again, back to his business side.
Thus far, I would, on a scale of 1-10, give him about a 7. This has greatly improved. If you would have asked me 6 months ago, it may have been a 3 or 4. He seems extremely knowledgable, of course. He was just lacking in personality. I feel extremely comfortable with his explainations of the entire process. I have had the experience of visiting with 3 other doctors and although I felt he was a little dry, I was most comfortable with his answers to all of my questions.
I was impressed with Dr. Elliott the first time I met him. I had consulted with 2 other bariatric surgeons and cancelled with both of them. Dr. Elliott spent about 40 minutes with me discussing the surgery. I had the impression he would have spent more time if I needed it. I had my surgery on 12/12/03. He emphasizes aftercare and lets you know that you will be with him for life. His program includes meeting with a nutritionist at each follow-up appointment. He very clearly emphasized the risks of the surgery. On a scale on 1-10 I would rate him a 10. I would and have recommended other people to him. I felt that I could ask him any question and that he would give me an honest answer. The day he did my surgery he was quite busy but he spent time talking to my husband and my son. My son is in a pre-med program and Dr. Elliott answered questions from him about medical school and the medical profession. His office staff has always been personable and professional and has worked with me with my insurance. He is not a preferred provider for my insurance so I had to self-pay - they then billed my insurance and refunded me in full.
My first impression of him was good. He was caring, honest and professional. You always hear that surgeons don't have a good bed-side manner. Well...so far so good.
He listened and talked TO me not AT me.
Plus his office was the nicest I've ever been in. He has the most incredible salt water aquarium in his waiting room. Very calming.
The office staff was friendly and helpful and paperwork went smoothly. I had to use my sense of humor and charm to get them to loosen up a bit.
Even though he postponed my surgery for over a month and it devistated me, I know it was for my protection. He has been a surgeon for 25 years So far I haven't found anything I dislike about him. I did have a long wait in the exam room, but he had a post-surgery patient come in with an emergency and had to take care of her. Everyone kept apologizing but I told them I've waiting two years for this day so a few more minutes isn't going to hurt me.
He emphasizes aftercare a lot.
He addressed the risks of this surgery very frankly. I was frightened instead of excited. But he just wants to ensure that I make an informed decision.
So far I would rate him overall about a 9.0
Both surgical competence AND bedside manner are very important. Many surgeons cut you and you rarely see them aftwards. It's so important he gives support and reassures patients. It's difficult enough to go through this without having a surgeon that's "missing in action" when you need him. I've heard from other patients that this is not the case with him.
I was impressed with him from the start. I am at ease knowing his level of dedication to his patients. I was not an assembly-line patient. His office staff is exceptional, they are super to work with. He is very strict regarding diet, vitamins and exercise. He has a very structured program and emphasizes the importance of being involved in the support group.I highly recommend him.
My first impression of Dr Elliott was he seemed like a very knowledgeable and profession physician. The office staff is very friendly and are very professional. Dr. Elliott explained the surgery very well to me and I was able to understand how the surgery was and what to expect after the surgery. He explained the risks of having this surgery and also the risks of not having this surgery with high blood pressure, colesteral and type II diabetes. I felt my risks were much better if I had this surgery. He had completely explained how I will need to be on a structured after care program actually for life. I completely trust Dr Elliott and feel that he is a excellant doctor. I would rate him on a scale of 1 to 10 as a 10 and would refer him to anyone looking to have this surgery.
Dr. Elliot seemed very nice and knowledgable about the surgery. His staff is excellant, very nice. He was very professional. The days leading up to my surgery, I felt very confindant in him. I knew I was in good hands. He is very structered for the after care. He emphasizes on a structered program. Overall I would rate him and his team a 10. If you do get him as your surgeon your in very compitant hands. And the pain was minimal at best.
Dr. Elliot instantly made me comfortable. He was open & honest with me about the procedure, necessary pre-op procedures, and what to expect post-op. He met with me before and after surgery several times and was always friendly, warm and extremely professional. He seemed very concerned with my recovery and the details of my treatment. He made sure that I understood the seriousness of my choice and the risks that go with it.
Everyone on Dr. Elliot's team were outstanding - friendly and professional. Dr. Trombetta assisted during surgery and managed my post-op recovery in the ward. He was extremely friendly and easy to talk to and visited me every morning. The intern, Dr. Harsha, saw me several times a day and answered all my questions and made sure I was getting everything I needed.
Bottom line is that Dr. Elliot and everyone on his team take their jobs very seriously. They are meticulous in surgery, yet have a very human, personable side. They really, truly care about their patients!
Dr. Elliot was a great Dr. I was scared at first because I had been dealing with another surgeon and was going to have the RNY surgery. But Dr. Elliot called me one day and said that I would qualify for the Lap. and that if they were unable to do it they would do the RNY. So when I went into surgery I had no idea what surgery I would actually be getting till I was in recovery.
Dr. Elliot was very calm and took all my questions seriously, so much that even though I am in another state now I still call him if I have a question. He still takes the time to talk with me.
