Dr Carl Weiss and his staff of university hospital syracuse NY are very nice people. The first time I met them they made me feel welcome.marcy his nurse is great and got my insurance to approve me the first time without the psych exam or an ecg.very competent staff. They beleive support is very nessary so they have support groups twice a month. They also carry pagers so they can be reached at any time.I would recommend this group to anybody.

I met with Dr. Weiss and his staff on 2/20/03. Any fears I had were quickly put away. Dr. Weiss was caring, considerate, and confident. I feel secure in my decision to be his patient. He truly believes in this surgery and that goes a long way with me. He and his staff made me feel like I had a new and healthy life ahead of me. They didn't paint a purely rosey picture... this won't be easy but will be worth my hard work. They answered every single question my husband and I had and then some.
My husband and I are completely at ease with my choice to have Lap RNY and feel even better that Dr. Weiss is my surgeon.

3/25/03 - I adore him... I adore them all!!!
Dr. Weiss and his team "wow" me with each encounter. I know they care about and believe in me. Dr. Weiss... He is the BEST and I know he will take excellent care of me.
He makes me feel so much hope for my future. I sense that he is a truly wonderful man and I am blessed that God has placed me in his care. I can't say enough about the entire staff. My surgery is on 4/23 and I know I'll do great and Dr Weiss will work miracles.

My 1st meeting with Dr Weiss was on December 19, 2002. From the minute he walked in the room to talk to me I was comfortable with him, and for me with dr's thats not usual. I had 3 pages of questions that he sat down and answered each and every one of them and he didnt act like he was rushing me or in a hurry to be somewhere else. Over time I liked him even more he seems to really care about his patients and takes the little office time to get to know them. His office staff is also great, everyone is so nice and organized. My only concern is that he has only done 20 surgeries so I was a little nervious about that but I met someone at the supportgroup meeting that he had done the operation on 2 weeks prior and at that point I felt a little more at ease. He has worked with and watched bariatric surgeons for over a year and I feel that he can and will do a great job.

2-17-03 I haven't met Dr. Weiss yet, but today I made my first step. The phone call to get the process started. His office is going to mail me the "questionaire" and then I will be able to get my first consultation appointment scheduled.

When I first met Dr Weiss I liked him immediately. He seems a bit quiet but he has a WONDERFUL staff. He makes sure you understand the surgery and the lifestyle change that is needed. He wants you to lose weight to give you an idea of the way you will need to eat after surgery - this shows him that you are willing to make the commitment needed before, during and after.
There are many support groups that you can be linked up to just by asking but they make sure you are fully aware. I think Dr Weiss and his staff go above and beyond the call of duty.

Dr. Weiss gave me the impression that he was extremely knowledgeable about the surgery. He pulled no punches..he was very up front about the risks of the surgery, and about the changes I would have to make. I was very impressed with his credentials, and even though I brought EIGHT PAGES of questions with me he patiently answered each one. Initially I was aprehensive about the number of surgeries he had performed, but for some reason I feel comfortable with him. I feel that technically he knows the laproscopic procedure and his credentials speak for themselves. The office staff knows their stuff. I had a problem with the concept of losing weight before surgery. They explained that the more weight I lost the better the outcome of the surgery, but I was thinking hey, if I could lose weight I wouldn't need surgery! So at first I kind of made excuses and tried to get out of losing weight, but they weren't having that. Until they saw some weight loss they would not go on to the next step. New patients take heed...go ahead and lose the weight! They will not submit your info to the insurance company until you do! Right now I am waiting for insurance approval, which I really am not worried about. I meet all of the qualifications. Since I am preop I will be updating about aftercare, but so far I am satisfied with Dr. Weiss and the staff. The only thing I would change is that they submit insurance information first and then give you a date. If you don't lose the weight, then give the date to another willing patient. The reason I say this is because more and more people want this surgery. The wait is hard enough, but when you are compliant I think you should be rewarded with a surgery date as soon as possible.

I met Dr. Carl Weiss today he is fairly young and very busy. There are other surgeons in the group. Their office manager is on top of everything. The dietitian is very good and very thorough. There is an FNP named Marcy Walsner she works close with the doctors and treats you so well. Dr. Weiss stayed with my husband and I and answered all questions. He also gives you a mini lesson on how everything goes. He gave many good and many bad effects the surgery can have. They provide a wonderful support and aftercare program. Part of their program is going to info sessions and support groups. My husband and I were very comfortable with Dr. Weiss. I went for second appt. on 12-12-02. Great care continued. They check your diet log to see if you will be able to follow the diet. As of now before surgery I will give him a 9 out of 10. When I went in on second visit I had done well with exercise and diet. He was so encouraging with his compliments.

I have my first appointment with him on October 24th. I will update then.

10/29 Had my first appointment with Dr. Weiss, and he said I was a good candidate and he would do the sugery! I was very nervous, but he was reassuring. Nice guy and seemed very interested in worries. Answered all questions and made me feel a lot better about the whole thing. The nutritionist Jessica was very nice and helpful as well. I have another appointment with her on 11/14 will update more then.
11/19 Appointment went great, and I lost 7lbs, yippee. Dr. Weiss says he would like to schedule me for surgery, but has to wait for my insurance to approve it now. Sigh...the waiting games now begins.
