Dr. Weiss is an excellent doctor. He is intellegent and straight forward. He will pull no punches. If he doesn't think you are serious then he will not do the surgery. This is part of what impressed me. This surgery is a life changing experience and you must be able to adjust before the surgery if you are to be able to do it for life.

The only thing I don't like about this center is that I have not seen Dr. Weiss since my surgery 11/13. I keep being told that he is a surgeon and there is no need to see him, if I need a doctor then see my PCP. This discourages me some. Butlife goes on and so will he to his next patient.

His staff is very friendly and I know they know their stuff, but with me they didn't share it. They told me about structure and what I would learn after surgery, but that structured program just didn't seem to happen for me for some reason so I have stopped going there. I wasn't told what to eat, when to eat it, how much to eat, when to increase it etc........

Most of what I have learned is from the Obesityhelp.com site. The members that go there are the best.

As for rating them I will as follows: 1-10

Dr. Weiss 8
Hospital stay 4
Dr's staff 5
follow up 1

Please keep in mind that this is just my experience and I am only one person.

Dr. Weiss is a great surgeon. He did a wonderful job on my surgery. He isn't much of a talker. I tend to like Dr's better if they know you well enough that they remember you outside of the hospital or remember your name without looking at your chart. However, he is excellent at what he does and I appreciate that. Thanks Dr. Weiss!

Quiet, not very friendly, poor bed side manner.
my impresion changed after the surgery, he is a very good surgeon.
the office staff is very helpful, but you need to be in charge of your process and keep them informed.
His presentation.
Is a very good surgeon, he does has extra training.
He did emphasized a lot, as well his staff.
Yes he does have an structured after care program, keeps things on track.
He was direct with info on about the surgery.

I would rate him very good.
His surgical competence is better than his bed side manner.

I loved Dr. Weiss. He was pleasant and was very relaxed and confident. He took the time to explain the procedure and gave me an opportunity to ask as many questions as I needed. He did not make me feel rushed which made me more comfortable knowing that I was not just another number to him. He has an excellent staff. I always enjoy meeting with Marcy Walser, she is upbeat and keeps me encouraged. Wendy Campbell was wonderful in the hospital. It was very nice to have a friendly face show up and check on my status and all. Deb Hurley was more than patient with my insurance questions. I would recommend this staff to anyone looking for a very skilled and professional staff.

The only negative is not in regards to Dr. Weiss's staff but the hospital staff. All of the nurses seemed more than competent in understanding what needed to be done for gastric bypass patients, except for one. But other than that one person, I was treated wonderfully. So all in all I was happy with my experience.

Dr. Weiss was the most caring doctor that I have ever met. He took all the time I needed to explain and show me how and what was going to be done. Even when I made him repeat some of the steps he was wonderful.

He continued his caring manners through out the whole surgery.

His nurse Marcy Walser and the dietician Jessica Planer are the best. If I run into questions that need answering they always made themselves available to me.

Nothing

If I had to do this all over again I woudn't go to anyone else but them.

They are always there for me.

They have a strict plan for you. It is very easy to understand and to follow.

They all made clear to me the risks of the surgery but, I was at a greater danger being the size I was.

I would rate them a 10 out of 10.

My care was excellent.

When I met him he was very concerned about me having questions, he was very explanitory.
My impression of him was, I feel that I have the best physician.
My impression stands the same.
The staff are very nice, and always make sure that they answer any questions that I have. The office is very clean, and very organized.
I have to say that there was not one thing that I did not like.
They informed me as well as provided a post surgery agenda as well as brochures what to expect.
He made me aware of all the pros, and cons
I would have to say on an overall basis, I am glad that he is the one that is going to be doing my surgery.
I believe that both are crucial. I need both.

My first impression is the same as subsequent impressions... gets right to it, not rushed but doesn't waste time either. Seems more interested in his surgery and you clinically, as opposed to spending time getting to know the person- my idea of the ideal surgeon...! Has done over 100 of these surgeries, and does 2-5 per week; that's someone who's most likely to be on his game!!

I see the surgeon as the technician that does the plumbing; then he steps out and back in comes Marcie and her staff to look after the person; I think all follow this pattern perfectly!

September 29, 2003- Went to information session that is required for WLS.

October 3, 2003-I met Dr. Weiss and his staff. I felt like I had been there many times they were all so nice and friendly made me feel so comfortable. Everyone was so upbeat and positive! Dr. Weiss is right to the point but answered all my questions and was very informative. I felt very comfortable with him. He said I was a good candidate for Lap surgery.

November 7, 2003-Went to my second visit with Dr. Weiss. Went over my daily menu that I have been keeping track of with Jessica(dietician) and also gained 2lbs. I think I have been eating more trying to get in my three meals a day, so we went over some better food choices and I will return next month.

November 12, 2003-Today I went for my psych. eval with Dr. Timothy Hayes. I have to go back December 5 for last part of eval? Unless he thinks I am crazy and needs to psycho analyze me some more! He was very nice and very easy to talk to. So both appointments are scheduled for December 5. I hope and pray the will say that my surgery will be in January so I can start off the new year becoming a happier, healthier me!

He seem like a ok person. he was very nice to me and took time to tell me that the center has only had 1 death out of 200. I really liked him. He told me to make sure I start bringing my family to my appoments so that he can form a relationship with them. I though that was nice of hime to say

I met with Dr. Weiss at his office in Syracuse on May 1st, 2003. He was very friendly, answered all my questions, offered a lot of information about his program, and even brought in a one-week post op patient for me to meet. His entire staff was very friendly and full of useful information. The next time I met Dr. Weiss was on May 5th at a 90 minute informational meeting that his staff gives to patients. They showed a video, then had a question/answer segment which addressed every concern imaginable. I left that meeting feeling even more confident in Dr. Weiss, his staff, and the University Hospital Bariatric program. My next appt is June 5th. I met with Dr. Weiss again at this appointment. I met the food journal/weight loss requirements having lost 8 pounds, and was told they would put in for authorization from Tricare. He answered all my questions yet again, and I still feel totally secure in his abilities as a surgeon.
