Dr. Lopez was great as far as his bedside manner. He was also an excellent surgeon, as well as his team. They were all very light hearted and funny and reassuring. He made sure he answered my questions and felt comfortable with the procedure. Afterwards, he made sure I was doing good and of course walking. He answered my call promptly when I was discharged and had an issue at the hotel. I would definitely refer him to anyone having surgery in Mexico. The attending physician at the San Javier Hospital Peurto Vallarta, Dr. Leo rocks!!!! He was a lifesaver for me through out my trip.

I found Dr. Ortiz through A Lighter Me. I researched WLS and decided on the Vertical Sleeve. Then I researched Dr. Ortiz. After all my research, I was confident that he was the doctor for me. My surgery was September 21, 2012 in Puerto Vallarta. When I met Dr. Ortiz, it was the morning of my surgery. He was kind and compassionate. After my surgery, the hospital staff was beyond anything I've ever experienced. The doctor checked on me 3 times a day. The nurses took amazing care of me. You pushed the button and they were there, no having to wait 15 minutes for a nurse. Housekeeping cleaned your room three times a day. I've stayed in hospitals in the states and have NEVER seen someone from housekeeping!!
I haven't had any problems from my surgery, so aftercare hasn't been a concern to me. I've been to my PCP once twice for a follow-up and all my labs came back perfect.
Before my surgery, my health problems were that I was FAT. I didn't have high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes. I had GERD, but I also had a hiatal hernia, which was repaired by Dr. Ortiz, I've taken acid reflux meds for years. Now I take reflux meds, maybe, 3 times a month.
People thought I was insane for going to Mexico for my WLS, but it was the best experience I've ever had and I'm planning on going back to Mexico for my plastic surgery, when the time comes.
If you want to see that I'm a "real" person, follow my journey on Youtube, I'm VSGJean.
I'm 5'8 and my surgery was 244 and I wore size 20/XXL. I'm now over 2 years out and I'm 148 and wearing a size 6/M.

Drs. Alejandro Lopez & Jaquelina Osuna did my sleeve. They were both very personalble, warm and willing to answer any questions, came across as very intelligent and professional. I'm very happy with the whole experience. The only negative is that the surgical center seemed to be very busy moving patients in and out while trying to maintain a high level of individual attention I still got that "assembly line" feeling. At times the nursing staff seemed to be spread thinly but I did always get what I needed.

Dr. Lopez performed my RNY surgery on November 15, 2012 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I have nothing but good things to say about him. I felt like I was in good hands with him and his team while in the hospital. The surgery went well, without complications and he came and checked on my mother and I daily to make sure everything was going well. I am so glad I decided to go this route!

Dr. Lopez is amazing! He is kind, and courteous and gracious. I had written down a list of questions lol, and he didn't miss a beat. He walked me through the process and what my husband and I liked the best is his humble nature. He isn't presumptuous or acts like he doesn't have time for you like so many of our doctors back home.
His staff is wonderful! From the guy who sweeps the hospital, to the night nurses who smile encouragement. To his surgical staff that are right by his side. The genuinely care about each and every patient. It was an amazing experience. I am going for my post op check up this week back in Canada. I feel great, my incisions are coming along nicely....to my limited knowledge of incisions that is =)
We were lucky enough to get the greatest group of patients ever!!! We made lifelong friends and the Marriott in Tijuana was wonderful. I couldn't believe how clean and beautiful everything was! I would highly recommend Dr. Lopez!
The only things that you HAVE to pack is....low sodium chicken broth packets for the airport, crystal lite, a thermal heat pack for your back on night three (it gets a little sore), and gas x strips. Voila! You will be in tip top shape for the whole week. Ooh my one friend had nausea and she mentioned some dots that she wished she brought for behind her ear....that being said, I had hiccups so, I lucked out.
