Dr Chlysta was very understanding. I didn't feel like just a number.rnrnI think he cares very much for his patients. rnrnI love the staff. They are always wonderful to me. Cathy was a dream when I had to go back twice. She made the ordeal much easier.rnrnMy only complaint is that I seem to lose slowly.rnrnThey are totally about the aftercare.rnYes it is structured.rnrnYes, you sign a bunch of forms stating that you understand the risks.rnrnOn a scale of 1-10, he is a 9.rnrnI will say both.rn
Dr. Chylsta's Bariatric program through Akron General Hospital is a true team approach. I was shocked at how thorough all of the pre-op activies were. It was great to know that he was making sure that on all fronts I was really ready for the surgery. My tests included meeting with a psychologist and taking a personality test, a sleep test (for Apnea), Blood gases, EKG, Pap test, mammogram, Pulmonary function, et. al.rnrnIt was really a marathon to get everything done - but it was also wonderful to know that everyone was there to help and dedicated to making it happen. They worked around my travel schedule, did marathon scheduling and were flexible in every way they could be.rnrnI also met with a dietician and a support group to help prepare me for the surgery and the changes I would make after the surgery. I atended a bariatric class with a nurse and dietician that was really helpful.rnrnDr. Chylsta is very patient. He takes the time to fully explain everything you need to know to make decisions and shows you how each step of the process will work. His presentations are awesome - with actual video of the surgery.rnrnFollow up care has been just as aggressive as the preparation. He has a support group that meets monthly and part of the agreement you sign with him is to attend 75% of these in the first year after surgery.rnrnI was really happy with the care Dr. Chylsta and his staff provided and I would urge anyone looking for a surgeon in the Akron, Ohio area to contact the Bariatric Center at Akron General and attend an informational seminar.
My first impression of Dr Chlsta was that he seemed genuinly concerned about my issues. He answered every question I had, and even explained why I needed to go through 6 months of medically supervised weight loss with my PCP. At first I thought, this is a bunch of crap, I wanted my surgery NOW. In the past 4 months, I have learned why this is so imprtant to WLS patients. I need to understand this is a life change. I needed to realize I have to change my eating habits, what I eat and how much of it I eat. I have since met with every member of his staff, Kim, Kelli, Kathy, Dr Gilbertson, and Nicole. These people are just as wonderful as Dr Chlysta. They make sure I am staying on track and are there for patients every step of the way. I am hoping to have surgery in March and I know that Dr Chlysta and his staff are the perfect group to help me reach my goal.
My first impression of Dr Chlysta was amazement at how young he seemed. Over time I realized that even though he seems youthful, he is not only a very capable doctor, he is genuinely concerned for the health of his patients. rnrnRose in Dr Chlysta's office was very helpful in getting my insurance company to approve my surgery and in helping me follow all of the steps to get ready for my year long journey.rnrn Dr Chlysta can seem to be a little clinical at first, but this is not the case. He is a warm caring doctor. Future patients should know that he is very thorough about presurgical and postsurgical care. Dr Chlysta reiterated over and over about what the risks were as well as the benefits of this life altering surgery. rnrnI would very much recommend him to prospective patients. Both his surgical competence and bedside manner were great. rnrnThe one thing that Dr Chlysta did that I remember the most was while I was in the preoperative section of the hospital, he came to visit me and to reassure me that he would \"take good care\" of me. Not all doctors do this. It made me feel safe.
My first impression was that he was very kind and took alot of time going over everything. Each visit, during the 6 month process to get approved and all the tests done, he was very helpful and positive. He called me at home to tell me results of tests which impressed me. I always had my questions answered, even the ones that seemed silly. When I had surgery, he was great and I felt very well taken care of. The aftercare was excellant and the support that the entire office gives is so great. They all gave encouragement each step of the way. THe Support group has been very helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Chlysta and his Bariatric team.
I first met Dr. Chlysta at one of his informational meetings. I was extremely impressed with how open and up front he was about his experiences as a surgeon and his statistics regarding his gastric bypass surgeries. Dr. Chlysta very openly addressed all of the risks and benefits of gastric bypass surgery at this informational meeting. As I got to know him, I realized that he is quite passionate about his patients and he tells it exactly like it is. He holds back nothing. While this can be annoying, it's one other reason that I chose Dr. Chlysta to do my surgrey. Sometimes we all need to hear the truth, even if it's not pretty! rnrnOne of his drawbacks is that he tends to run late with his appointments. I always make my appointments early in the afternoon, when he is not yet so behind. His office staff is impressive! Cathy Burke, his program manager, is a wealth of knowledge and can always be called upon to answer any question. The aftercare in this program is impressive! In addition to Cathy Burke's availability, there are monthly support meetings, continued meetings with Kim Knopp (the program dietician) and Dr. Gilbertson (program psychologist) is always available. I would highly recommend Dr. Chlysta and his staff to anyone thinking about weight loss surgery.
Dr. Chlysta and staff were very attentive and professional. He is approachable and down to earth. He is up front and honest about the surgical risks. His nurse, Kathy, is caring and educated on WLS. They are really trying hard to stand out as a relatively \"new\" program. rnThe support groups are arranged at conveinent times and seem to address a variety of issues.
