Dr. Van Wagner is a pleasant man. He is not much for small talk or getting to know his patients in-depth. I expected him to be more personable. He is purely professional. rnDr Wagner's office staff were excellent. They answered questions (even dumb ones) and always had a good word and a smile. rnDr. Wagner did explain the procedure well although it was very rehersed and I felt like i was in a seminar and not a private consultation.
He is a quiet Dr. but he is very intelligent and listens to your concerns. He is not arrogant and does't make promises about the surgery. He is very upfront and honest.rnrnHe did an awesome job on my sugery. I've had NO complications (knock on wood) and his office staff is AWESOME. Sarah is full of information and a blast to talk to as well.rnrn
my first impression was that he was young and very quiet man. i thought the exam was not very through even after i had filled out the ten page medical hx i still had to tell him so he could enter it into a lab top. he suggested i have the rny but i was more interested in the band. he left that decision up to me he really did not go over too much about risk etc his office manager is the one that really gives you most of the information and answers your questions. she was great with all of that. i don't know that i can rate him as yet the jury is still out. i fell all dr. should have both surgical competence and bedside manner. all pts. deserve that.
My first impression of Dr. Wagner was that he was friendly and concerned. My impression of him only got better as we worked together to reach the goal of changing my life! His office staff at the time of my surgery consisted of one office assistant, who was superb in every way! She was very helpful, informative and caring. She made me feel like I was very important to her and the doctor. rnrnFuture patients should know that he is very capable and great at what he does! He cares for his patients and tries everything to make you feel good about what you are going to do.rnrnThe aftercare has been great as well. I have one more visit (it's been 3 years) and I think that will be it. I always know that if I have any concerns, I can call. Both bedside manner and surgical excellence are great - and Dr. Wagner has both!rnrnOnly one negative comment - I had an office visit scheduled, and no one showed up. They forgot to call and change my appointment for that day. Also, on two occasions they were late opening the office after luch.
I met with Dr. Wagner on 11/7/06 and he seems to be a very nice man. He thought that the Lap RNY would be a better surgery for me instead of the LAP Band. I had already decided on this route. His office staff, I think her name was Sarah was very nice and both she and Dr. Wagner told me about a previous patient that did not go completely right, but everything turned out okay.
Dr Wagner is the greatest. My first impression was that he seemed to really know what he is doing. I still feel he is very dedicated to his profession. Sarah(Office Manager) is excellent. They are great at letting you know everything you need to know. His surgical competence and bedside manner are great..
Dr.Wagner was absolutely excellent very detailed in the procedure at the first seminar we attended right down to surgery. His care before and after surgery were perfect.rnSara his office manager is a absolute angel she was very supportive through the whole process. Answered my every call and every question.rnHis aftercare has been awesome and I am totally confident in his care and his knowledge of Lapband.
I met Dr. Wagner and liked him, I went to his seminar and it was very informative. Had all the risks involved . He is a very quiet dr. but seems to be knoweledgable. I talked alot with his nurse Sara, she is very compassionate, and very informative on her job. I opted for the lap band surgery on 9/24/04 and at first it seemed to be ok, I had some restriction, but it faded, and I could eat alot for the band being there, the dr. kept filling the band, and after time, I still had little restriction. I am very slack on exercise, as I have other health issues. Exercise is a big part of this. You have to combine that with the surgery. I have lost 20 lbs, but I expected more, in two years. I have since gained all 20 back. I am having tests to see what is up with the band. Dr. Wagner does have a great compassion for his patients. He is very quiet... But knoweledgable of his profession. I will update on my progress, but am opting for a revision as this might be what is best for me. I would say Surgical competence is more important than bedside manner.. This is only my experience with this procedure and may not happen to all patients as each person is different. I know this surgery has been very successful with other patients. Weigh all your options. I think research all your needs.
I met Dr. Wagner to have my initial consultation a week prior to my surgery hoping it could be arranged over my school's spring break. He -- along with his amazing office assistant, -- "made it happen". My first impression was that he was a compassionate, knowledgeable, and experienced surgeon. I saw him again the morning of my surgery -- Monday, March 20, and during follow-up during my wonderful stay at St. Alexius Hospital. My impression has not changed, and only reinforced, now that I have experienced his surgeon's "touch" having the laproscopic RNY. He is top-notch in his field and I highly recommend him. (My husband seconds this recommendation, feeling that this surgeon was also concerned with answering his questions and addressing his concerns.) I know this review asks the writer to balance the positive comments with negatives, but I honestly don't have any negatives to state as part of my personal impressions about my personal experience with this doctor.
