Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch
Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch
Well, there has been a change. I'm having
surgery in 6 days (2/11/03) in Lafayette, La. by Dr Uyen Chu/Stevens!
I love Dr Chu!!!!! The whole staff were super nice and I know this is right for me.
I was given journals for food/daily from pre op to post op for the 1st year on my 1st visit.
A notebook filled with everything one would want/need to know about this surgery and what to expect afterwards for the 1st year.
I am post op, had surgery a week ago and I'm doing great!
I go for my 1st post op appointment tomorrow to have drain removed.
On my scale it shows that I have lost 15 pounds as of this morning.
I would highly recommend Dr Chu to anyone needing this surgery from my experience as her patient.
She has had specialized training in the Lap for 2 years before doing this surgery.
Dr Chu addressed the risk of surgery frontwards/backwards.
I would rate her 99% overall at both surgical competance and bedside manner.
She has a structured aftercare program and expects every patient to follow up on a yearly basis, besides meetings.
She is my Guardian Angel!
God Bless Her!
I was very impressed with her professionalism and her demeanor. She seemed very competent. She does not have much experience in this type of surgery and I have to admit, that frightens me a bit. But with the few that she has done, they have been successful, so I feel confident with her. Besides, this isn't exactly the first type of surgery she's done. She is a laparoscopic surgeon. SO...I will update after my surgery and let everyone know, but I feel sure she will be excellent!
Dr. Chu is new to WLS and will begin in August 2002 with the assistance of a proctor from New Orleans LA who has done many procedures. She is a very confident and competent surgeon(in my opinion). This was not a difficult decision for me to make, due to the fact that I did not want to travel to have this procedure and she is in my hometown. The fact that I am a nurse and have personally worked with her has helped also.
She was very thorough in my pre surgery consultation and put me through the ringers. Pre surgery testing included: EKG, Nuclear Stress test and Echo cardiogram, as well as a complete physical.
Aftercare is the most important key to sucess with this type of surgery and she made sure to instill this fact into my understanding.
The aftercare I will be receiving will inpart take place in Mandeville, LA just a short drive from home, and a registered dietican at the hospital where I work and will have surgery, will help me with my dietary needs pre and postop.
Later on I will be able to better rate this doctor.
So far her bedside manner and surgical competence are equal. She has a wonderful aspect for the program and I am looking forward to being her patient.
I'm sure not everyone has a great experience with surgery, as I have read some of the more unpleasant results, hopefully mine will be good and if not I'll be sure to let you all know where my problems lie.
