when I first visited dr marshall he was very snobbish and made some rude wisecracks..I had an appointment with him today,,,almost 5 months later he still is the same ...a coworker brought up a point,,,his bedside manner can be horrible, I can deal with that i would rather have him be a great accurate precise surgeon...

My first impression of Dr. Marshall was that he was very busy. I thought that is a good sign. I have read many messages of him, and think I am very lucky to have him doing my surgery. I thought his office staff was very helpful. Aftercare seems to be the most important part of this journey. The risks of surgery were stated. I feel tHAT SURGICAL COMPETENCE is the most important. The only negative for me, was I guess I didn't know some questions to ask about the journey. I have found this site to answer those questions. Staff was very friendly and helpful ansswering quetions.

I finally met with My Dr.. Dr. Stephen Marshall. Un-like some
others have said about him, I found him very freindly and very easy to
talk to. He came in and discussed all the risks involved, and was
very detailed in describing the surgery. The he replied "Well shoot away" I
had a pad with notes written down (Thanks for the tips from Melinda (Program Director
who is amazingly intellegent!) I began my questions. He was very personal
with me was not at all what I was told he would be!
I look forward to my new life with Peoria Surgical Team as well as their Outstanding
Support Group Program! With the support of them as well as my family I know this will end
my problem with obesity! I already have an appt with him scheduled for before my surgery date.
(which I don't have yet!) I will be meeting with the Psyc. next.

I met with Dr marshall today. He is very committed to the obese population. His bed side manner is very flat. He sees's alot of his patients on tuesday and thursday so the office was full of patient waiting to see him. The visit was a bit routine. so if he is your physcian do not expect tofall in love this guy. His program director Melinda was wonderful. The support groups and other parts of the protocol are very rigid, but understandably so. a very good physcian. Highly recommend by my primary care physcian and other in the community

Dr. Marshall is a very competent surgeon and his patients, myself included, seem to have few, if any complications post op. The office staff is friendly and well organized. Melinda, the RN coordinator for Bariatric Surgery, is very involved in all aspects of the whole process. She is very knowledgable and caring and will make sure you are well taken care of both preop and postop.

My first impression of Dr. Marshall was not very good. I met him when my husband had pancreatitus. My husband spent 4 weeks in St. Francis Hospital before Dr. Marshall (recommended by our family physician) decided to remove 1/2 of my husbands pancreas. I met Dr. Marshall 1/2 hour before the surgery, he told us that this was a very difficult operation, and that my husband had only a 25% chance of recovering. As I was standing there with my tongue laying on the floor, he patted my husbands arm a couple of times and said, let's all hope that everything goes alright. I realized 4 hours later, no matter what his bedside manners were like, he is a man who knows what he is doing, my husband has fully recovered from pancreatitus!

The staff at Dr. Marshall's couldn't be any more accomodating or pleasant.

I give Dr. Marshall and his staff an 8, with 10 as perfect. (I would rate them higher, except EVERYBODY has to have room to grow.)

My first impression was "What's he think,am I a candidate for this procedure or is he gonna throw me out". He is a very serious person, he does not beat around the bush, I liked him. His office staff is very nice, especially Melinda L. and Mary P. at the Bariatric Clinic. POST-OP, What did I like least about the office? Was being treated badly by a tall dark haired, receptionist. I was every embarrassed by the way she was acting towards me, in front of the other people waiting in the full office this day. I had a rough time with my surgery and was lugging around 3 drains and still feeling quite lousy. After that day, the office staff was moved around and this lady was moved to another part of the office. So the last few times I was seen at the office a very pleasant person was at the desk, Sally. She was busy, polite and helpful.
There was't anything about the surgeon I did not like, he asked me at my preop visit if I was willing to make a long term commitment to follow-ups and attend support group and tell my story, I said yes. He of coarse asked other important questions and then explained the procedure and post-op routine. He said he would like to continue to see patients after surgery to follow their progress.
This office uses OSF St. Francis Bariatric Support Group, to educate the person thinking of having surgery. They have a before(pre-op) surgery support group and an after surgery(post-op) support group. Most of the people thinking about this procedure have researched and attended meetings prior to the educational portion of this program. So I would have to say yes the risks of surgery was addressed at several times, either in group, research, or the surgeon himself. I like their program so far. I know that this surgeon and staff are constantly attending seminars and staying up to date on bariatric treatment. All the surgeons and staff I had been seen by while in the hospital and after have been very pleasant and have taken the time to make sure I was feeling well and doing well, so I would say that surgical competence and bedside manner was both great.

I've seen Dr. Marshall a couple of times now and my surgery is in a couple of days. He was friendly and professional but at times abrupt. I really don't care too much about bedside manner as long as he knows what he is doing and takes care when doing it.

As a whole, I think the office staff are great (Melinda, Matt, Mary & JoAnn).
