I liked Dr.Marema from the first time that I met him. He is very caring. The office staff is wonderful also, as busy as they are, they still treat you like you are their only patient. It was made very clear about the risks of the surgery. The fact that Dr.Marema himself and his wife & office staff has had the surgery themselves says alot about the procedure.

I had my one-on-one appointment yesterday with Dr. Marema. He is trully a compassionate and thorough man. I would recommend him to anyone. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate him a 10+.

Dr. Marema is a very caring and genuine loving surgeon. His protocol is something he belives in and so does his staff. If you follow his schudule everyone I have talked to says this journey is easy and will not fail. He's real clear that his surgery is a tool only everything else is up to YOU. All your questions are answered. The support that you are given is unimangable, everyone wants to help or be a part of the whole proccess so far it has been a real pleasure dealing with this surical team. If I had anything bad to say I think is would be that he is growing so fast that his office visits are very long and frustrating, but everyone is so sweet to everyone that all is forgiven.

At Dr. Marema's three hour information session, I was very impressed! He did not sugarcoat anything. He told it like it was, to the point. He also was forthright with risks, etc. Great information! I also feel that it helps me in my decision that he and his wife have had the RNY surgery too! He has been on both sides of the knife. I like that!!

I had already done some research when I went to his info session last July. Seemed very knowledgeable and witty, answered all my questions. I've since been to his monthly support groups, which are generally packed. Office staff is very professional and VERY BUSY! Karen, the insurance specialist, always took time to talk to me. There were some communication problems about my insurance, which lengthened the process, but I was eventually approved after 4 months. Woooohoooo!! His program seems very thorough compared to some others I've read about. The one thing I don't care for is that I didn't get to have an upfront consultation with Dr. Marema. My first consult is on 4/2. Otherwise, I have many friends whose surgery has been very successful, so I really wouldn't choose anyone else.

Thus far I have only met and spent a brief time with Dr. Marema but I can say he is a very impressive individual. I was struck with his straight-forward approach, his warmth and sensitivity, his competence and sense of humor. He wasn't afraid to express his positive/negative feelings and I really liked his willingness to be open to consider me as a viable patient for the surgery inspite of my age (63). He initially rejected me based solely on my age (due to increased surgical risk for persons over 60)but was willing to evaluate me based on a personal interview and my previous medical records. If I am able to get through a cardiac consultation with a Cardiologist and the Psychological evaluation, he is open to accepting me for surgery. Thus far I am impressed with is pre and post surgical program. His staff is excellent although they have trouble returning phone calls promptly. I look forward to a continuing relationship with these people because I think they are folks I can trust!

Dr. Marema is very experienced in WLS. He has a funny sense of humor you have to get used to. ALso, he is a very busy man and to be honest I havent seen much of him during my whole ordeal, but I felt like I was in great hands with his staff and especially Dr. Cox, his associate who was so comforting in the hospital.

Dr Marema seemed very excited about this surgery and for good reason. He is walking, talking proof that it works since he is post op. I felt very confident in him after the session. His staff seemed like they have all done this forever. They ran like clockwork. Well see..........

Dr. Marema's a great surgeon - extremely knowledgeable and thorough in his practice.

I must say that his bedside manner can sometimes be a bit curt and lacks the warmth of other surgeons out there, but his surgical competence TOTALLY OUTWEIGHS that. I feel I didn't have him perform my surgery
in order to obtain a best friend - I had him perform my surgery because I KNOW he's the best surgeon for the job!

His program from beginning to end is so completely structured and he has a wonderful staff that has been there every step of the way for me and never neglects to return phone calls.

The fact that he facilitates support groups to go to once a month and TONS Post-op follow-up makes this whole "change of life" so much more comfortable.

There are many surgeons out there, but I feel that Dr. Marema's program is the most complete from pre-op to post-op and further on for LIFE!!

I immediately liked the Dr. Marema and his staff opon meeting them. They were very professional, very knowledgeable. His nurse Debbie, was FANTASTIC (very pushy, but needs to be) and has been very helpful through the whole process.
The program is thorough and well explained with all kinds of support and information about all the possiblities pre and post op.
Their support meetings are very helpful, it's just like being in a big family, we all feel close to eachother.
