My first impression of him was that he knew what he was doing and that he believed in this surgery.
My impression only became more sure with time.
I loved his office staff(nurses & counter people). They (especially Betsy) were fantastic. They also made you feel like they knew what they were doing and that they cared about you. The only one that I wasn't especially fond of was the insurance lady, not for any real reason, but she wasn't rude or anything. Just a different personality maybe.
The thing I like the least about him... was it was hard to get the initial office time with the doctors, they are very busy with many patients. That is a good thing and a bad thing, but... when you did get in to see them, they were willing to take the time. So... if you want someone who will not be on schedule as far as office time, but willing not to rush out the door when its your turn, these guys were the ones to go to!
I would want others to know that after the surgery he is really there for you and he will answer any question you have, he did for me anyway.
He is very big on follow up care!
He does have a structured aftercare program. When I had surgery, you could be involved as much or as little as you want.
He is very thorough on his pre-surgery information session that you are required to attend if you are considering surgery.
I would say overall, that with both Dr. Georgen and Dr. Wasco (the other surgeon) were the best team out there! They made me feel comfortable, they answered all my questions, and they listened!
I would have to say that both (surgical competence & bedside manner)are critical when it comes to this surgery. I needed to know that the people I was placing my life's hands in were capable in a life threatening situation. I needed to know that if intervention was needed they were able!!! I also know now that you feel very miserable those first few days, and I needed someone who was willing to take the time to listen to me and help me to focus on the path ahead!
Dr.'s Georgen and Wasco preformed my surgery together. They were both very caring and made sure I knew what to expect. Both came to visit me at the hospital after surgery. Their office staff was outstanding in their genuine caring natures. I alway felt that they cared about me. I have called their office for some questions about my healing and they made sure I could be seen as soon as possible.
Thus far, my impression of Dr. Georgen is very positive. He appears extremely educated. His personality is a perfect blend of professionalism and realism. Dr. Wasco was at the info. session and he speak as well. Dr. Wasco seemed a tad bit more straight laced than Dr. Georgen (not a bad thing). Betsy, Julie and Carol have been very prompt at returning my calls and answering my questions. With the support and structured aftercare program, I am confident that they will aide in my speedy recovery and months of hard work and dedication.
Dr. Georgen is a very nice fun man. Him and Dr. Wasco Have a great bedside manor. Both of these men know how to treat a person and make them feel good about themselves. They are understanding to your needs. The staff is very nice also. The nurses are quick to answer questions and help you in anyway. Besty, who runs the program is very helpful throughout the whole process. My parents were in the surgery waiting room, and were very impressed when the doctors came out after surgery to talk with them and answered all their questions. They were very happy to see 2 such caring doctors. I would tell anyone in the wisconsin area who is looking for a WLS doctor, to call these guys cuz in my book they are the best!!!
Oh, my goodness. Where to start....Dr. Georgen to me is probably one of the nicest people I have ever met. Seriously. he is truly a caring individual who's number one concern is the health of his patients. I overheard a conversation he had with another patient while I was waiting to see him. He told the patient that he was doing great and the patient said "thanks to you" Dr. Georgen actually said..."I didn't do anything. You are the one doing the work" Which is true to a certain extent, but jeez...it literally gives me goose bumps when I think about what a neat guy he is. His being a surgeon aside...he is just cool! I cannot express what his encouragement has meant to me. Even the time he said, "you GO girl!" to me.....words cannot express it adequately.
His office staff is also very pleasant, helpful and encouraging. The nurses Linda, Julie and Betsy have also been a tremendous help to me and my family. The entire staff of Midwest Bariatric Solutions, with the exception of only one individual, has always made me feel like I was the most important person there. All the risks were explained to me before hand the emphais on the aftercare program was explained as well. As far as an overall rating goes...is there such a thing as an A++?
To adress the last question here..which is better...surgical competance or bedside manner....in my opinion Dr.Georegen is an excellent example of both. I would recommend him to anyone. Honestly, I cannot think of anything negative to say about him personally. Perhaps it is a bit of the patient falling in love with the doctor? I don't know. I just think he is great.
My very first impression of Dr. Georgen was how different he was from other doctors. He took all the time you needed to explain things to you.
He still does. He cares about his patients as human beings not just numbers. He is a really careing surgeon.
His office staff , they are great people
Dr Georgen is there for you before and after the surgery.
Any time I've had to call the office or even for evening care he has been there for me.
The risks, yes he told me and made me and my husband understand them.
On a 1-10 scale with 10 being the best I would consider Dr Georgen a 20
I feel surgical cometence is better than bed side manner but with Dr, Georgen both were great.
I've learned that Dr. Georgen will be my surgeon with Dr. Wasco assisting. I met Dr. Wasco at the informational seminar offered at Theda Clark (Dr. Georgen stopped in briefly as well)and was impressed with his compassion and caring, as well as his medical knowledge. I appreciated the time he spent answering questions, the responses given as well as the medical rationale for his answers. His nurse Betsy was a delight and I have been pleased with the help she has given on subsequent phone calls. The program they present is very thorough, lets you know what to expect, risks and stresses follow-up care after. One reason I chose their program is the way they operate. Both surgeons scrub in, one working on the stomach, the other the bowel, decreasing the amount of anesthesia time. As a nurse and a a person of size, I am more comfortable with two surgeons performing surgery, rather than a surgeon and a PA.
