Dr. Haluck is one of the nicest doctors I have ever met. He took time to talk to me and answer any questions I had about the surgery. He wants to make sure that you are well informed about the surgery and it's risks. His team wants you fully prepared for the changes that will occur after surgery. Also, The office staff was very nice and always treated me very well. He is a leader in his field of expertise, Laprascopic Surgery, and I would definitly refer him to anyone else.
I wasn't quite sure after our 1st meeting. He impressed me with his knowledge and intensity but I wasn't sure if he'd have patience with me during my bouts of emotion.
I could not have been more wrong.
Friends advised me to let him see that side of me at our next meeting. Then I could see if I was comfortable with him. At the 2nd meeting, despite the probability that he might not schedule my surgery that day, I let it all out. He listened compassionately to my thoughts, fears and observations. He validated my feelings and easied my fears with his accepting manner and honest discussion.
He said we should wait on scheduling a surgery date. I was disappointed at first but then he actually thanked me for being honest and said that he wished more people would do so. He stressed that my being honest really helps him use his physician skills, in addition to his surgeon skills, to treat me and my obesity. He let it up to me when to talk again. We did so three weeks later.
I'm ready and we scheduled a date.
I have every confidence in him and Hershey Medical Center program. They are already doing all the recommendations I see in other WLS materials and sites. Support groups, nutritionists, the most effective procedures and they build in time to think and process info and emotions between spaced out appts. I thought I was ready in June. I had researched it, thought hard about it and came to a decision. But now I'm glad they built in that thinking time. I've processed through the risks, practiced post-op behaviors and had time to build a larger network of support.
My first impression was that he didn't have much of a sense of humor. Since that first meeting, I've revised my first impression.
He's great. He takes his time when he sees you and he does have a sense of humor. His office staff is great also. He emphasizes aftercare and is great when he sees you post-op. He was very forthright with possible complications from the very beginning and it was lucky that he did because I was one of the few unlucky ones which developed complications. I would rate him high as an excellent surgeon. The only complaint I have would be the nurses in the intensive care unit. I don't feel that they were very sympathetic to people who have this surgery.
The nurses I had when I was put into my own room were much better, since they were on a floor where they take care of gastric bypass patients all the time.
HE WAS VERY NICE AND UNDERSTANDING. NO MY IMPRESSION DID NOT CHANGE. THE WHOLE HMC EXPERINCE THAT I HAVE HAD SO FAR HAS BEEN GREAT. HE GIVES YOU EVERYTHING UP FRONT. DOES NOT HID A THING. IS NOT A DOC. WHO IS READY TO CUT. MAKE YOU THINK A FEW WEEKS BEFORE SETTING A DATE. HE VERY KIND. I CANT ANSWER ALL THESE QUESTIONS YET. HE IS VERY UP FRONT ABOUT ALL THE RISK FOR THE SURGERY.
I RATE HIM A 10+. HE KNOWS HIS STUFF.
I MET WITH DR. HALUCK ON MAY 2, 2001. THIS WAS MY SECOND VISIT WITH DR. HALUCK. I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH DR. HALUCK HE IS VERY KNOWLEDGABLE AND CARING. HE MADE ME FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE AND AT EASE WITH MY DESCISION. HE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO A T AND ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS. HE SPENT ABOUT 45 MINUTES WITH ME WHICH I FIND GREAT, USUALLY 2 MINUTES AND THE DOCTOR IS GONE. HE FILLED OUT ALL THE PAPERWORK HIMSELF AND WALKED ME OUT AND SET UP MY PRE-OP TESTING. ON A SCALE OF 1-10 I WOULD RATE DR. HALUCK A 11. I NEVER HAD A LONG WAIT 5 TO 10 MINUTES AND ONCE I GOT BACK IN THE ROOM IT WAS THE SAME. MY EXPERIENCES WITH DR. HALUCK AND HIS STAFF SO FAR HAS BEEN EXCELLENT AND I EXPECT IT WILL BE IN THE FUTURE.
January 18, 2001 I had my first visit with Dr. Haluck. Getting checked in was interesting as the person who helped me had trouble finding my referral on the computer and ended up calling my PCPs office to find out she was entering it wrong on Aetna's system. After getting over that hump, things went very smoothly. My wait was very short. A nurse took me back, weighed me and took my temperature and blood pressure. Then back to the exam room where she gave me some written info and had me watch a video about the surgery. Hershy Medical is a teaching hospital, so I expected to see someone else before seeing Dr. Haluck. I was right. Dr. Agulara took my history and did a preliminary exam. He stepped out and returned in just a few minutes with Dr. Haluck. Dr. Haluck reviewed my history and talked a bit about the surgery. He was very open and I felt very comfortable talking with him. He answered all my questions openly and honestly, even the tough ones about his surgery history. He made sure I was aware of the complications that could take place. He also said he felt I would be a good candidate for the lap procedure. After he was sure he had answered all my questions he left. I am scheduled for my psych eval and apnea test next week. Then I will go back to the dietician and then back to Dr. Haluck for the final decision on the surgery. Over all I was very pleased with everything. The waiting time was minimal and Dr. Haluck was professional, thorough and personable.
I love him! At first I thought he was a bit stand-offish, he was very to the point and said he didn't think I had the co-morbities. I think he says those things just to make sure you'll hang in there!
He fouhgt for me! The insuance called me the night beofre my surgery to say they were cancelling due to not enought prior history of weightloss attempts. Randy and my Primary showed them my history in even more detail and they allowed it to go on as scheduled.
The staff was very helpful..Never a long wait either.
At this time there are no support groups for Hershye...but I hear this will change soon. I have no compalints about Dr. Haluck at all!
