I thought Dr. Haluck was great. Very Professional and courteous. Office staff was helpful, kind. Things were a bit rushed my first appointment and surgery was scheduled then for one month later (which then, subsequently had to be cancelled due to insurance restrictions...) Make sure you follow all the "hoops" and regulations to avoid being disappointed by a set-back in your surgery date. Aftercare is very structured -- follow their program; it's there for a reason. Success does not come easy. Risks are clearly explained. I'd rate Doctor Haluck very high in my experience. He even made follow-up calls to my house after finding out that I was having trouble with dehydration and vomiting, and subsequently readmitted me for testing. I felt he was very cautious and proactive in my care plan. I would score Dr. Haluck high on both surgical competence and bedside manner. Thank you, Dr. Haluck!!

I thought Dr. Haluck was very nice, my husband and I did not wait long at all for my appointment. The office staff was courteous and friendly. He went over what he felt we realistic expectations for the surgury results, as well as the risks involved. He was very friendly and was willing to answer questions. He did not address the aftercare program, but I don't think he really needs to either, the program is set up so that the nutritionist deals with this aspect of the surgury and give you so much information to help you to prepare, it would be a waste of time to go over it all again at the first appointment. He felt that based on my BMI I qualify for the surgury. I would rate my first meeting with him a 9, and I think that surgical competance is more improtant than bedside manner, however the ablity to communicate with a patient is also important. I feel comfortable having him do the surgury, Any of the Dr's at Hershey would be wonderful. I do think that it is hard to get an overall impression of the Dr. in one visit. - My prep visit with Dr Haluck was even better. He was very nice and I trust him to do a good job and send me home to my family after the surgury. UPDATE - I am now 13 days post op and I am soooooo happy I picked Dr Haluck! My surgury took approx 4 hours because while in the operating room they did a number of tests for leaks, and that everything was just perfect. I did not even have the gastric tube in when I woke up! He did a great job! I am 2 weeks out and feel wonderful. I am also about 20 lbs lighter and 1 size smaller already! Dr Haluck was wonderful in the hospital and I am certainly feeling great about the work he did! I RECOMMEND HIM!!!!! Update - I had my 4 month appointment today and Dr Haluck was very pleased with my loss to date and was so pleae with my progress he told me he would see me back in 12 months. By then I should be at my goal weight! I hope. He said to call with any issues in between, but I am doing so well he does not anticipate me having any. Yay! He was very supportive, asked me to Thank my family doctor for supporting him and me with the surgury and ordering my followup blood work and following me closely for him, getting me my B12 shots etc. So Thanks Dr. Christopher Fox (Family First Medical Assoc in Lancaster PA!) They have also been awesome and supportive of my journey!

Very timely appointment-I waited maybe 5 minutes. One of the reasons I chose Hershey Med. Ctr. was b/c of their presurgery and aftercare programs. They are both very extensive and detailed. I have a friend who went to Reading and had open RNY and then was on her own. Now she is having major complications 2 years out. My surgeons program includes required appointments up to 1 year and then as needed. I am confident in my surgeons ability from my research and upon meeting with him. He is a doctor who doesn't dance around important subjects and is very honest. I don't really know about his bedside manner. He seems to be a man who gets things done so that may come across as brusque. To tell you the truth I could care less about bedside manner compared to surgical ability because the truth of the matter is that the nurses take care of you anyhow!! The staff were amazing! I would strongly recommend Dr. Haluck and the Hershey Medical Center/Penn State WLS program.

I was very impressed with Dr. Haluck from the very first meeting. He seemed very concerned and compassionate about what he is doing and about the decisions that we are facing. I never felt that he tried to push me into anything or rush my decisions, he was always willing to answer my questions or concerns. When I was in the hospital he took the time to talk to me and seemed to really care about how I felt and any concerns that I had. He never made me feel like he was in a hurry and always seemed willing to give me whatever time I needed. I thought all of his staff that I dealt with were very professional and always treated me with dignity and respect. I think the whole program that they offer at Hershey is wonderful, there is plenty of support both before during and after. I felt Dr. Haluck was always very thorough and honest about the risks involved in this surgery. I would definetly recommend Dr. Haluck to other patients and would rate him a 10 on surgical competence and bedside manner!

Dr. Haluck is a caring and compassionate individual whom keeps his patients health as his utmost concern. He and his surgical residents have conducted themselves in the most professional manor while I received care from them in the hospital. I would recomend Dr. Haluck and his surgical team to anyone who is concidering bariatric surgery. When I first met him, he laid everything out on the table about what risks were involved; and what you could expect from the outcome. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would rate him a 15! From the first visit when he gave me his email address to send him any questions, or concerns; I was shocked , this indicated to me that this doctor was indeed "down to earth", I didn't get the impression that he was conceeded, stuck up, or above me in anyway. Just a good, and wonderful person who enjoys helping others.... the world should be so blessed to have others like him in the health care field. He belives in aftercare, and support group therpy. This operation is not a cure all, but a tool that will give you incentive to want to succeed.

My first impression of him was great. He has been very helpful to me with any of my questions. My impression of him never changed. His staff was just as great as he was. I honestly can't find anything about him that I didn't like. He is very good at what he does, and if there is a problem he takes care of it. He explanes that the aftercare is going to be tough but it is necessary. He has scheduled appointments with you for the next 2 years. He is very honest about the risks of surgery, and he tells you point blank what can happen. I would rate him a 10 overall. Both his bedside manner and surgical competence are great.

At first I thought he was a bit stand-offish, he was very to the point and said he didn't think I had the co-morbities. I think he says those things just to make sure you'll hang in there! He fouhgt for me! The insuance called me the night before my surgery to say they were cancelling due to not enought prior history of weightloss attempts. Randy and my Primary showed them my history in even more detail and they allowed it to go on as scheduled. The staff was very helpful..Never a long wait either. I don't feel he bypassed enough (only 42 cm) or made my pouch small enough (only 50 cc). I've asked for a revision but he won't do it. YEs I've lost 70 lbs, but I still have 50 to go...and I didn't get many of the tools I was told would be here for me...I'm dissappointed. I've e-mailed Dr Ku...he seems like a great guy...very personable. Dr Haluck is good, but I think Ku would have been a better all around experience.

My first impression was that he is all business and not a compassionate, people person. If you have questions, he will answer your questions, but not alot of time to think after consultation. Since Hershey is a learning hospital - you deal alot with residents. He did address the risks of surgery and was very knowledgable about the procedure and did address the support group on several occassions. I have only met with him briefly on my initial consultation and then to have the surgery scheduled. He did work me in weeks earlier because of a work conflict and that was very much appreciated. Yes, Hershey Medical Center does have a very structured aftercare program. I will be able to give more insight after my surgery on 7/19/02.
