My first impression of Dr. Peter O'brien was a good one. He has a great office staff, especially, Pam. He visited with me very thoroughly and even drew pictures of the procedure. He explained the difference between the lap procedure and open. He described the effects of surgery and some of the aftercare. I have a lot of trust in him since I have been in contact with several people that have used him in the past. He also told me about a procedure that gave him trouble. I like that honestly in a doctor. He also told me he learned this procedure from the doc in North Carolina that perfected the lap procedure. That in itself has got to be a plus. He was very prompt on getting a letter to my insurance and also in scheduling me for my Teaching and Testing. My process started on January 29 and I was accepted on Feb. 6 with a surgery date of March 28. Can't beat that for time.
1/24/01--My first impression of Dr. Peter O'Brien from Sioux Falls, SD, was a good one. God must have made surgeons all from the same mold! I've known several and they are always kind, gentle speaking, and all around nice people, which is a good thing since they will be cutting into you! The staff were very friendly and considerate.
One thing I can say for sure is that they were more concerned about me waiting for the Doctor than my local clinic! I had a 15 minute wait, compared to a good hour at my clinic! Dr. O'Brien briefly explained the procedure and the aftercare. They had sent me pamphlets that I had already thoroughly read, so I understood and didn't have too many questions. Anyway..so now I wait to be approved by the insurance company. Which is better? Surgical competence or bedside manner? Beside manner..no one wants to go under the knife with a doctor who is mean and brutal!!
My first impression of Dr OBrian was great he was very easy to talk to & didnt talk above my head & i like that very much in a dr . I feel that he was very truthful & he didnt leave out any important facts . He let me know the positive things about the surgery and the negative ones to . Dr Obrian gave me an address to a web sight that was very helpful. We talked alittle about the after care & the fact that i will need that for my mind and my body . His office people were just great in the office and on the phone too . I feel really good and positive about my surgery & my doctor doing this .

Dr. O'Brien is a wonderful surgeon with a lot of experience in bariatric surgery (over 20 years!) He is informative and genuine. He is very caring and offers a lot of support before and after the surgery. He is very thourough in informing of the possible risks involved, etc. He stresses the importance of aftercare. I
