Very Kind and genuinely interested in helping us. We have heard nothing but good things about him and feel very confident about him performing our surgeries. He gave us brochures and met with us to dicuss what kind of surgery was best for us. His office staff call to check up on paperwork and insurance matters. So far they all have been great. He was very "backed Up" and we didn't get to spend as much time as we would have liked. He is a darn good surgeon.. but so busy he didn't remember when we were having surgery.. in the hospital he didn't recognize us, and after he didn't know when we had surgery or anything.. He is a super surgeon.. just really really busy
I first met Dr. O'Brien in February 2001. I thought he had a surgeon's personality. Not really much of one. I've changed my mind. After seeing Dr. O'Brien at the first support group meeting & having a second consultation with him, I think he's great. He's down to earth and has an air of confidence. He promotes aftercare and realistic expectations. I have also found out that he is one of the most respected surgeons in the nation for this type of surgery. I believe he has a real interest in bariatrics & the whole health of the patient.
Dr. O'Brien is professional and an honest person. His office staff was wonderful, very helping and willing to find information for you.
Dr. O'Brien does the Gastric Loop through the laproscope. My insurance said that this was still preliminary, but Dr. O'Brien said that he has been performing this surgery successfully for the last 2 years.
7/16/01 i met with peter o'brien i liked him i thought he was really intellegent he tells you what he thinks he is very strait forward if i get approved i will be having dr obrien do the surgery i beleive he is very good.
1/22/01 Dr Obrien is a great surgen i am glad i decided to have him do my surgery.he checked on me 2 times a day. which i thought was great.i am very happy with the way my insisions look i have only 5 little scars...i really think Dr Obrien is one of the best.
Dr O'Brien was the greatest. He was so detailed and answered all questions that we had. After surgery he checked on everyone at least twice a day. As time goes by I value him as a GREAT doctor. He is always available for questions. After the 3 month check up he asked if I would come back just so he could see how I was doing. Most doctors would not care that much.
Dr O'Brien makes sure you have a doctor at home that you can see. And his nurses are always there for questions. Dr O'Brien went over all the details what to expect and what the Risks were. I felt very safe in his hands. I thought I was going to be real nervous the day of surgery but I was very calm it was a good experience and knowing that I was in the care of a great doctor helped,
The only negative thing was I developed pnemounia after surgery but I believe this was my fault for not getting up and walking to keep my lungs clear. I do not blame the doctor for this at all.
Dr. O'Brien believes in the work he does . My first impression of him was a very kind and knowledgeable man. I grew to like him more over time. Office staff are very friendly and returned calls promptly whenever I had a question. After care was briefly discussed, but since I live 5 hrs away from his office, follow-up is by phone. My primary MD follows me medically. He was very straight forward about the risks. As a medical professional, I probably had fewer questions than most. Overall, I would rate him a 10 out of 10. He was very attentive after surgery. I knew that the staff had very strict after surgery monitoring parameters. Dr. O'Brien visited nurmerous times a day to check on me. To me, surgical competence and medical management are most important. Bedside manner may contribute to patient confidence, but the end product ie. a good outcome is most important to me.
Dr. O'Brien is a very nice person. Very caring is a good word.
The staff at Dr. OBrien's office are great and so is all the staff at Sioux Valley. They tell you what test you are doing and why.
I had my blood gases taken today and it wasn't bad at all!!! The lady that does has been doing it for 14 years.
