Excellent bedside manner. I knew that I was in very good hands from the moment that we met. Instead of standing above me like so many doctors do, he sat next to me on the bed and we talked liked old friends. He answered every question that I had.
After the surgery, I didn't experience any pain ever. I was feeling so good, I had to ask him whether he performed the surgery. In addition, my scars were very small and healed very nicely.
The nurses at the hospital are true professionals. I never wanted for anything and could barely speak Spanish.
Overall, my experience was Excellent.
I had already read about the number of lap band surgeries Dr. Rodriguez had performed and knew he was one of the most experienced and qualified surgeons available. I have found him very accessible and helpful. His staff is very kind and caring. There is a language problem as most of the staff does not speak English and that could be scary for someone who speaks no Spanish. The hospital is not what you would expect by US standards but clean and medication is handled well. There is no aftercare program to speak of, you just contact the doctor if you need a fill. Aftercare is a problem for me because I live so far from Mexico. I had done so much research before the surgery that I was aware of the risks and Dr. Rodriguez comfirmed that fact. I think he is one of the best doctors out there for this type of surgery and the least expensive if you are self-paying. I feel surgical competence is the most important thing and Dr. Rodriguez is both very competent and has a wonderful bedside manner. My biggest criticism would be a lack of specific instructions beyond caring for yourself after surgery and the language problem with some of the staff. I found the difference in hospital care to the US a bit scary.
I met Dr. Rodriquez the morning of surgery. I had spoken with him over the internet many times before I went and he was always ready to allay my fears. He was very professional, asked if i had any questions and then answered them. I went directly to surgery after that and all went well. He did my pre-op tests in the operating room before surgery. Dr. Rodriquez has answered all my post op questions over the internet in a short amount of time. His staff was very nice and professional, but only speak spanish. He has no structured aftercare program so if you go to him be prepared to do this on your own. He is very comforting with a great bedside manner and is very efficient at his job. We posed for pictures and he was very encouraging to his patients. The hospital was less than what I had expected but since I was there for one night and was comfortable with the staff and doctor I didnt mind that much. Would I do it again? Yes.
