I cannot say enough about Dr. Valin and his staff. He has the convenience of having the Nurtitionist, Nurse(who is also his wife) and Psych Evaluations in the same office. Everyone is very helpful. I am coming from RI, which is a 2 hour ride for me. The girls in the office did everything the possibly could to cut down on trips for me. They managed to get all of my appointments into just a few days. Debbie was very detailed in telling me exactly what the procedure was like, what to expect, and made sure I didn't leave with any questions. On my final appointment, Dr. Valin again, went over the procedure with me. He is very quiet and professional, but has a good sense of humor. After my liver ultrasound, he put down his tools and said \"ITS A BOY!\". I have researched gastric bypass for a long while now, and Dr. Valin was clearly the best choice. I decided that a little drive was nothing if I was getting the best care. I am 8 days post op, and have absolutely made the right decision!
Haven't officially met Dr. Valin yet, but his office staff seems to be very nice. rnrnI didn't really get a nice vibe from the nutritionist, Diana Rosa, that he uses though. She had a very nasty demeanor over the phone, more like she is doing you a favor than that she is there to help and encourage. I meet with her in person next week. The Psych doctor was just he opposite. He seemed to be very nice.rnrnThe only thing that is kind of a turn off with Dr. Valin for me personally, is that he doesn't meet with you initially. I think that would be much better. Then he could describe to you what the steps are, even if it was just a Hi!
I was going to have Dr Valin to my Lap-Band Surgery and was giving info to his office which is run by his wife Debby who's also is surgery nurse.rnAfter going to a seminar I was told by his wife without the benifit of an evaluation appointment that since i suffered from Depression of the BiPolar form I wasn't welcomed as a patient.rnI never thought a Doctor would discriminate me for an illness.rnI have to tell you that I was told this in an email by his wife Debby who runs the office and is a nurse I would tell future patients to consider other doctors.
What can I say about Elmer Valin. He is fantastic!! From the moment I met him. Somewhat quiet, he has a softness and a charm about him, yet he has a firm handshake and is quiet sure of what he wants to convey to you. His staff is always courteous and helpful, no many how many times I needed to call them. The only thing I didn't quit like about him is that he is so thorough, that it was rare that I needed to see him. His wife also is great. I really can't say enough about this man and his surgical staff. They all seem to know what is going on and have the greatest bedside manner. Everyone knows whom is whom and what part of their pre-or post-op they are entering. For you Dr. and Mrs. Valin, my hats off to you and all your staff for being so wonderful. Couldn't have requested anyone better to follow me through my surgery and recovery. Again Thank You. Nancy Gillam
I have been very comfortable with the care given by Dr Valin and his staff. The process actually went very quickly for me because my only 'impairment' was being obese.
I was quickly approved by insurance for the surgery and chose to go for it before I chickened out.
He thoroughly explained the surgery and all risks involved. Debbie also makes sure that you are aware of exactly what is being done.
The office does stress that you should attend aftercare but in my opinion, doesn't stress it enough. I think the aftercare should be 'mandatory' for at least the first few months because there are so many questions that come up post op.
Overall I would rate Dr Valin as an excellent surgeon. His bedside manner was quiet and reserved. I saw much more of his wife Debbie and the nurses than him but he was always pleasant to deal with.
I have heard many here say that Dr. Valin is very quiet, so that's was I was expecting. On my first visit with him, he did an ultrasound of my liver/gallbladder. As he completed the procedure, he said "congratuations, you're having a boy!". We both cracked up and I liked him from then on. His surgical skills are beyond compare. I would go back to him tomorrow if I needed to.
His wife Debby is a sweetheart and his office staff is wonderful. I would recommend Dr. Valin to anyone considering bariatric surgery! Don't get me wrong he is a busy man, but he definitely knows what he is doing.
